Verrückt is literally translated to "Crazy" in German. The map devs knew from the start what map they wanted to do.

I remember how fast the zombies run in the the world at war version. Verruckt is my favourite zombies map of all time.
Ah yes the infamous verrückt runners, made every kid pause and quit the game when they came out at round 6
as SOON as i heard someone scream somewhere in the asylum, i damn near quit the game it was easily paused for a good thirty minutes, and once i heard a baby crying, oh my god i didnt touch the fucking game for weeks

Beans Verrückt does not have Pack-A-Punch. But you can witness the horror of zombies running almost as fast as you. You can hear screaming, the stairways are max of 2 players wide. And there’s no good camping area, so the map is challenging just to get to round 10.
Also you spawn in different rooms from your team.
Ahhhhh, when it was nazi zombies, not hyper dimensional alien zombies with alternate timelines and a splash of easy mode.

Before zombies became bullshit and when the only aim was to survive. You could upgrade easily and didnt have to complete 15 steps of the Easter egg to do it.

Verruckt definitely got less scary throughout the remakes. The zombies in world at war just sprint at you much faster and it’s way scarier.

And like any maps, zombies are everywhere , but as a glitch tricker myself, you can skip so many round . But NOT IN THIS MAP, they WILL RUN AFTER YOU! The moment you jump out the window, get out the map, They will run into you insanitary!! They’re damage are double. And strongly fast.
That’s why I said there’s NO safe place in that map
What I loved about WAW was each map had its own flavor of color, each map stood out because it wasn’t colored the same. It felt like different locations, it felt uniquely real places that these soldiers went to

Der Riese - Blue
Der Riese felt black to me, but yeah I see what you mean, Black Ops 3 played around with colors a lot too

Even on chronicles it’s terrifying. Not as creepy, but it’s still got that ominous feeling.

Verrückt never straight up scared me but it always made me uneasy. The asymmetric design, the lighting, blood all over, torn-to-shit-by-time aspect...

Missed out the big easter egg on this map in one of the spawn rooms. There's some kind of reclining dentist chair and if you held square (PS) or X (Xbox), on the recliner wheel, you hear a man screaming as the sounds of a buzzsaw scrape.

Reasons why Verrückt is scary. (WAW Version)
1: Perfect map for the quality being gritty and dark to make a good WWII / Zombie game.
2: The Zombies are looking more terrifying,worn and have more sounds and voices than in Nacht Der Untoten.
3: VERRÜCKT SPRINTERS
4: Verrückt’s Game Over music is so fitting for an bloody scary end of your life
5: Set in a abandoned Asylum or a Sanatorium.
The worn down map and graininess feel along with the sounds amplify the scare factor
Also world at war in general is a game with a very dark vibe
Game over song makes me crawl up into a ball and cry
Sen-115 the ending song is the one aka shi no Numas song

I was always a fan of the more disturbing maps like Verruct, Mob of the dead, and Kino Der toten. But I also liked origins which was a very large map.
Yeah, the waw maps are such gems. The atmosphere really makes you think what horrors happened there. Also, A huge fan of the cod ww2 zombies.

I liked when the story was simple and somewhat grounded in reality. Now, since bo2, the story is forced in your face and it seems too silly to even care for.

Still my favorite map from World At War to this day. Der Riese was everyone's favorite, but Verruckt was my personal favorite. Close-quarters, sprinting zombies, and it was also where the story started to develop. Not to mention that creepy atmosphere it had. The place was haunted and it housed one of my favorite songs on Nazi Zombies!

Bruh treyarch should make a map like this, just strictly horror driven, and in a place like that. A rundown place based on pain and inhumane suffering. But with the corpses of those dead people rising again on top of that.
Verruckt is One of the best, hands down
I don't think they'd be able to recapture that ambience no matter how hard they tried.
Part of the reason Verrukt was so scary was because the video game community had never experienced anything like that.
I don't even think the "horror game" genre existed back then.
All I can think of is like Manhunt and that game is pretty freaky too

I grew up watching my brother play COD Zombies for years, so much that the sounds, the maps, the zombies all hold a special place in my heart. Sounds weird but I grew up watching him and going back and seeing this really made me smile remembering my childhood with my brother and just giggling seeing when his character died. Thanks for this video man, really gave me a reason to text my brother to check in on him lol

I think what also add to the creepy factor of this map was the Easter Egg song “Lullaby for a Dead Man”.
Compare this song to the later songs like Beauty of Annihilation and 115. Those songs are rocking with screamo while this song is more slower pace and calmer. You can even perhaps apply this song to one of the patients who can be a little girl (before the introduction of Samantha and Maxis).

Verruckt is easily my favorite waw map. There’s just something to it that makes it very appealing and fun to play. Although I think kino or Nacht is the scariest map
Kino and nacht give me more nostalgia now than anything. So the maps themselves aren’t scary to me. However, FUCK the town map. That one gets me. Zombies just jump off freaking roofs and they come from everywhere. Plus you have to avoid lava on the ground

In the sound files, the “carnival music” is named “pa_system_00”. It doesn’t sound like any German marches I know.

I played this map one night with my brother. Afterward, as I slept. I had a dream I was stuck in verrukt, but there was a door to the outside. I left to the woods, hearing whispers. Soon a loud crack of thunder sent me back to the asylum, where I fought to free myself, but my fight was futile, and soon, I was overrun. I then woke up and had to sleep with my mom and dad

First time i played the OG maps from WAW it scared me like Verruckt when a dude make torture scream its like Damn, but i don’t know Why Bo3 version feels empty or not Scary like WAW
I think it’s due to WaW’s gritty graphics. Everything is so dark and bleak, especially the zombies.

I know you probably dont care but there's a bo3 mod of Verruckt and its like the original
• the design of the map, the atmosphere, the sound effects (like the whispers, the baby crying and the ghosts of soldiers screaming.)
• the lower detailed graphics.
• the difficulty, the super-speed zombies.
• the (though small) backstory.
• the song.
This map STILL today gives me the shivers and chills though only WAW.
+ for extra shivers and chills, I recommend turning all lights off and avoid using anything communicational (turn off and avoid using phones IRL, play solo and don’t talk to others in a party) plus if you’re alone, you’ll (maybe) be more spooped.
Definitely the 1 spoopy map.
Not my personal favourite (I’ll tell you when we get there lol) but it’s in my top 5, definitely.

Did you know you can hear German soldiers singing on the Balcony on the Juggernaut side of the map? I found that out and got really psyched out. I was sure I going crazy.
Any map that has alot of corners and floors and has pretty narrow hallways and rooms will infact spook you. You never know whats behind corners.

I honest to god love verrückt, so much I love the creepy scary style and an insane asylum is a perfect place for a zombies map ever.
Bram V perfect setting for a map but the map is very poor. Nacht gets a pass because of the original zombie map and the nostalgia, originality, and new experiences that came with zombies at the time. Even though zombies with verruckt was pretty much brand new it doesn’t serve a purpose in me playing it

Bram V ehh nostalgia runs heavy on the first zombies map ever for me, but let’s be honest here any map with restricted strategies and creativity is undeniably going to be worse. I thinks it’s safe to say a lot of people have different opinions on good and bad features in zombies but for the majority a lot of stuff that made zombies hands down better like pack a punch is too big to ignore. I have a deep love for Nacht but I’m not going to act like in reality it’s a good map because it’s not. It’s great for what it is and being an old map but some things just improve over time even though I feel right now zombies is going backwards

i remember whenever i played verruckt i had to keep the sound off because the ambient sounds freaked the shit out of me
When I was young, I remember playing this map and going down on the Quick Revive side and finding out if you crawl into the tiny room with the window facing to the fountain and going to the metal wall you could get it just right to be revived. I loved this map

It would be awesome if in blackout asylum was in the middle of a forest and when you got near the location the atmosphere started changing and becomes the same as it is in the actual zombies map when you enter the building... different lighting, time of day, sounds in the background...make it so people dont want to go there cuz of how terrifying it is

One of the most horrifying aspects was the Sprinter Zombies which synergizes with the map's emphasis of deliberate movement. Unsettling to the core, the Sprinter Zombies were included to discourage camping even farther by making stationary defense nigh impossible or otherwise way too stressful and difficult to reliably execute.
Nothing is as terrifying as having to reload with a sprinter charging right at you or having to panic and abandon a good fighting position because of just one sprinter.
Scariest map when I was little was Tranzit I'm not meming. The fog is spooky and so are the denizens plus the size of the map makes you feel isolated from your friends on multiplayer.

Transit is pretty bad to play on but it actually is terrifying because of how big it is. The fog, avragado, the corn field, the farm. I dont like playing it alone.

I miss this series so much. Thank you Tim for a brilliant retrospective. I have watched all these before and just felt like watching them all again. Verruckt being one of my favourites.
I find it kinda strange when Tim says there’s hardly any places to train on this map because every time I’ve ever played this map, I use the entire thing to train. It’s literally a big circle so I do laps of the map until the entire wave is behind me, turn around when I hit the spawn corridor (biggest straight stretch), aim for the head and let loose. My best ever play through got me to round 32 with that strat on the black ops 1 version of the map.

@@TheGreatMishas Very true. I've just found that's a matter of timing, as long as you do any shooting at the beginning of a long corridor, not the end, they shouldn't start spawning above/below you, giving you enough time to sprint through and carry on
OneMotion when i went for high rounds, i sat by the trap with the flamethrower and once the trap ended i would start training them around the map, 40 rounds never got blocked (my game crashed sadly)
I wish they’d do a similar thing with a future map, the whole splitting up your team is a simple but kinda refreshing concept I’m curious to why they haven’t done it again, maybe have a map based around the two and two man groups with the goal of reuniting but obviously a bit harder then how verruckt is
What really scared me was in the map “ revelations” if you go to the verruct part of the map you always hear people screaming and sounding like they are in a cage trying hard to get out.

The best Camping spot on Verruckt is the Bootlegger/BAR room. The map still gives me Nightmares, it's one of my favorite maps though.
Some of the best camping spots I've found require not opening any doors on the Quick revive side, camping in the kitchen, Speed Cola room, or Thompson room are the best that I've encountered, and gotten the best results.
I have to agree this is one of the most creepiest map. Especially the sounds.

Well Nacht Der Untoten got remastered for Cold War and revamped to be bigger. So maybe Verrukt will be next.
The carnival music is the most disturbing imagine your in immense pain being tortured and the carnival music plays not only drowning you out but mocking you as the nazis dances taking pleasure in your pain mocking you with the horrible music

@@LuisGarcia-zc5vv because its set in an asylum, the zombies are literally insane patients who were tortured and tested on, verruckt means "insane" in german. the zombies are 10 times more insane which is why.
Shi no numa was the scariest for me. The darkness and zombies coming out of the ground. but both were equally fun. A blessed childhood. I was a loner that would carry randos strapped to my back past round 30 even if they couldn't stay alive. I just LOVED that feeling of surviving and pushing the limits. Running out of ammo and having to rely on grenades and wall weapons.
To this day the zombies on shi no numa scare the shit out of me too, the whole atmosphere of the map is creepy😢even the way they run freak me out 😂

I remember when I was 10, and my little brother was 7. We just bought the black ops 1 DLC, including verruckt. I believed it was called zombie chronicles, we played every single map. But then we got to verruckt. We hopped on and immediately heard a zombie scream from the top of his lungs. We never got back on. Af course now I play it still in BO3 and I'm pretty sure that wasn't healthy for a 7 year old either.
We still enjoy kino Der Toten and nacht der untoten and stuff to this day. Or we just catch ourselfs playing some multi-player every once In a while.
I forgot to mention, we didn't turn it off immediately but we kept it on pause and we convinced each other to keep playing, and then we heard the carnival music, the backwards one. Then he really noped the fuck out. Me too. When we were a bit older we always said hi to the poopy toilet. We walked past and we said hi poopy toilet. Yeah good old times.
