Hi Lee, thank you for your comment and feedback.👍 It's really not a proper review its just a showcasing of the presets and or the lack of them. 😄 Really glad that helped! ✌️
Hello, I need your help, how to connect this device to the synthesizer, the synthesizer has a midi input and output, there is a cord, on one side a midi jack, on the other a 3mm jack. But they do not react to each other. I can not understand what the reason is.
Hi Irina, have you check this video? ruclips.net/video/qmXQxkeYiiE/видео.html Do you have the right cable "Type A"? Let me know if you solve it or if you need help. Cheers!✌️
I love this little synth. I'm definitely going to get it. It's the perfect camping and travelling device. The sounds are lovely. I sometimes think people miss the point of things in an effort to dislike a brand. This is made for portability. And this line from Roland nails it. Pair it with the new sampler and you're in business.
Hi Andrew, I totally agree with you. I personally like it very much, I always take it on vacations with the T8. I also think that is also a great device for someone who composes on a computer but wants to have hands on the controls. I don't use it in that way but I can see the potential. It sound great and doesn't take any space on a home studio. The new sampler?! Men!!! I was waiting for it for so long. I personally have sent and email to Roland asking for one sampler (SP404) in the Aria Compact format. I'm really excited about it I ordered it immediately, I'm just waiting for it!
People: Roland, your entire Boutique line is like synths for ants. The knobs and sliders are so uncomfortable and small, it couldn't be any worse. Roland: Hold my beer...
I clicked on this to hate it because it's a ROLCA lol. I love it, sounds incredible from the first preset to the last. Juice Wrld sounding preset was sick!! I own a korg volca fm2 as my only volca just to not have to lugg around a DX7, chorus & reverb pedal (I control it with a prologue 16 and mix presets). Behringer's pro VS looks cool and all, but this is a roland product so it might be better. (Yet anything is better than paying for roland cloud haha)
IMO this is one of the best Synths you can buy, it can do so many things, so many sounds, so many feutures. The Vs mini in the oder hand is very limited, I personally don't like it.✌️
Hi, I don't know if there is a way to copy just the tone but is very easy to copy a pattern with its tone and delete its sequence afterwards. That's the way I do it and is very simple.
Plug the 5 pin midi on "Midi Out" from the Korg Kkn, plug the 3,5 mini jack to midi "in" on the Roland S1. In the menu of the Korg set it to Channel "1" and on the Roland S1 go to "CH" and set it also to "1" . Now when you press a Key on the Keyboard of the Korg the S1 should also play the same note that you are playing on the Korg keyboard.
You are right there is no menu on the Korg I found this: cdn.korg.com/us/support/download/files/5882b95e3d1c9dcbb21e0bda467dc246.pdf?response-content-disposition=inline%3Bfilename%3DKingKORG_NEO_PG_E1.pdf&response-content-type=application%2Fpdf%3B Pag 29 Setting the KingKORG NEO’s MIDI channel 1.Hold down the SHIFT/EXIT button and press the PROGRAM (GLOBAL) button. You’ll be in Global mode, and the PROGRAM (GLOBAL) button will blink. 2.Use the PAGE+/- buttons to access the GLOBAL “g15: MIDI Basic” page. 3. Turn the VALUE dial to set the Global Ch (MIDI channel). 4.Set the MIDI channel of the connected external MIDI device. Set both to the same channel number "1" for example.
@@irinaprasko6798 Or easy way plug the midi cable "out" from the Korg, "in" on the Roland. Go to the "CH" on the menu from the S1 and go thru all 16 midi channels until the S1 plays. Im super new to synths and I had a question since I just got this. How do sounds like preset one work where its got a sharp attack but also the pad swell underneath? Ive been curious
Welcome to the "Syntholandia" great Synth to start with, learn it!✌️😄 I'm gone try to answer your question, I think i know what you mean: With the Roland S-1 you can record parameter modulation changes, what I mean with that is, if you press record and change/move any parameter/knob it will be record the movent you did with the knob. On many Presets it's what is going on for example the envelope starts with a short attack but later on the pattern it changes to a slow one and them starts again with I short one and so on. Hope I answered your question, hope it helps. Have fun!!!👍
The envelope has the classic 4 parameters to control the attack, decay, sustain and release - a short attack and delay makes a pluck type sound, and then setting higher sustain and release values will give the pad-like tail. Because you can also set the filter frequency to follow the envelope it gives quite an organic or pastoral pad sound, particularly when the sub-oscillator is playing lower frequencies that get louder as the filter frequency changes over time
Hello. Thank you very much for responding to my message. My name is Sergey. I am from Ukraine, currently abroad. I bought this device on Tomman, before buying I asked if it would work synchronously with Korg. They answered that yes, but for this you need to purchase an additional cable. As a result, I connected as shown in my video, the result is zero. Maybe you can tell me as a specialist. Thank you very much for your attention.
Hello Sergey, you are welcome! You didn't manage it to work? To what Korg device you want to synchronize it? I have it synchronize with many Korg devices. I think you are doing something wrong. Here the link to the cable: www.thomann.de/intl/rockboard_flat_trs_midi_cable_30_cm_a.htm?shp=eyJjb3VudHJ5IjoiZGUiLCJjdXJyZW5jeSI6MiwibGFuZ3VhZ2UiOjJ9&reload=1 or Amazon: amzn.to/3OHvZUp
The Tb303 has a unique sound and characteristic patterns. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by aggressive, but the raw sound is not regressive unless you use a distortion pedal. With the Sh101 you don't get the characteristic patterns from the Tb303, but you can get a fatter sound by detuning the oscillators, but I would also say aggressive. IMHO✌️
Ok witch one? There are two types "A" and "B" the Roland Aira Compact use Type "A". To what Korg do you want to connect it. I may be able to help you if you give more information.
Hi, I don't know if I get your question right. I think you mind how do I change between patterns like in the video. For that you should have "pattern" selected press the "pattern" button it should be "lit". When lit just select any other pattern number. To change pattern group long press "pattern" and without leaving pressed select between 1and 4 (Groups) the 4 numbers will lit. From factory only the group 1 has patterns/"sounds" 2 to 4 are empty like I illustrate in the video (perhaps this is the answer for you question). Hope I answered you question, if not please let me know.✌️
The pattern bank 2-4 looks like user patches....which will start off with an init ( initialised ) sound, usually a basic sawtooth and then you modify and build on that for your sound. I am going to get my S-1 this week so will have a better idea when it arrives.
@@christopherfarrell-artist3557 Yes, exactly! The Pattern Banks from 2 to 4 are user Patterns and they started like you just said as a Initialized Patch (sound) and there is no Pattern on the sequence.👍✌
I think its a matter of taste, they are a different technologies. I'm still interested on buying one if I find it at a good price on the second hand market.✌️
Why not? If it sounds better, it's a matter of taste. As I said, they are different technologies both with his pros and cons. For me the important thing is what my ears say and the instrument's workflow. Not the technology behind it. If it sounds bad, sounds bad! If sounds good, sounds good! If playing the instrument is a pain, its a pain!
Where did I complain about the 16 patterns in the Volca generation? Yes, I really find it a joke! 😧 One of my favorite "Synths" is the Roland Mc303 and it is so criticized for having so many Presets. But the truth is that it still has 50 User Presets and it is from the 90's. The Volcas are from a era that a 128Gb micro Sdcard cost almost nothing. How much space needs a Preset to be store? 😉
Im forcing myself to love all new Roland units, but someone in me squints contemptuously because of blatant digital sound of them.. s1 has nothing with sh-101, sad…
They sound good, they are small, they are great! They are not analog! For that check out the Volcas they don't have so many features very small memory to save your patterns but they are analog.👍✌️
Size of these devices is crap. Sound is wonderfull. I wish these synths were big, sturdy, had proper outputs and MIDI ports... Don't know why these should be smaller than Rolands external synth editors of the past.
There are a lot of bigger Synths out there. I have some, but I also like this format a lot the are some advantages, like only with to hands you can control multiple synths at same time, great for travel and holidays, very small foot print in the studio. A lot of fun, they sound very good and they are very inspiring.
I don't like the trs midi jack and I will need to get converter cables, it would look weird with a full 5 pin midi port. I thought the boutique were small and now this form factor is getting ridiculous....But, for £150 I will get over it pretty quick.
@@christopherfarrell-artist3557 I had the same opinion as you until I got one, the T8, and now I'm a total fun of this format. A see a lot advantages and almost to none disadvantages.
