I was between the mx5 and the ampero 2 but I found a black friday offer for a free shipping ampero and the switch for around the same price of the mx5 plus shipping to my country, so I had to take it!. I think I made the best choice!
You won't be disappointed. I have both and it is significantly easier to get a good sound out of the AS2 than the MX5. Not to mention there's a lot more variety to choose from. My MX5 is going back to Amazon.
is the ampero 2 noisy? I remember my original ampero was so noisy compared to my NUX , and it had a hum on most amps, even when using high quality humbucker guitars.
Hi Leo! Thank you for the reviews. At one time, the appearance of HOTON Ampero and HOTON Ampero one were perceived very positively. Good emulation of the sound of amplifiers and effects. Rugged housing. The presence of a tuner and a drum module at a very reasonable price - what more could a mass buyer want. Exercise at home, rehearsals and small concerts in bars or clubs - processors are ready to solve all these tasks without problems. As for the new model, the switching has been improved, a more powerful processor provides longer chains of effects. The improvement in the sound quality of amplifiers and effects is almost negligible. Probably, if we consider the purchase of a new device, it is worth stopping at the Stomp model. For example, I stay with HOTON Ampero 1. What can be attributed to its noticeable inconvenience is the lack of a power off button. An unfortunate miscalculation of the manufacturer. After all, the savings are minimal. Good luck.

Thank you for your in-depth review. I have been a very happy Ampero user for a couple of years now. I love how this unit sounds, and the form factor. I do rely on the balanced XLR stereo outs, expression pedal, and extra two button footswitch for playing at church. I do realize that I can use TRS to XLR converter cables or DI boxes, and I also realize that I could use the midi controller for extra switches and external expression pedal, however, my current setup fits easily in my gig bag, and the extra hardware would require an extra bag, and some extra setup time. I do have the midi controller, and have used it with my ampero, but have found that it I don't really need it when playing live, and simply don't take it to gigs or to church. I would like to upgrade to the Ampero Stomp II but I suspect that it will be more cumbersome to carry around and use.
Thanks for this comparison, interesting stuff. One thing you didn't mention: what's the Latency of the Stomp 2? The high latency of the original was the dealbreaker for me, so I'd be interested to see how the new model holds up.
You are welcome! Here you can find a video dedicated to the latency of the Ampero Stomp 2: ruclips.net/video/NyPKqOHZeek/видео.html I hope you enjoy! Thank you!
Thank you so much!!! The price difference is pretty big...but it could be a nice comparison to do to check out what you miss spending less money... Thank you for your suggestion!
Hi Leo, very nice comparation. Would you upgrade a NUX Mg300 to an Ampero one? Appart for the output capabilities of the Ampero over Nux. Do you think I will improve the sound and effects quality that I have on my Nux now? Thnkx
Hi, thank you, I'm really happy that you like the video! It's very hard to give you a "black or white" answer...it's a matter of taste. I would suggest you to check out the "more sound" section of this video to check out which one you prefer. Thank you!
Hi Leo I play both acoustic and electric. The Ampero II does not have the selector for Acoustic as compared to the Ampero MP100. This was not mentioned in your review. Is this another significant factor to consider when upgrading?
Hi, with the Ampero II you can select the source via software, in the I/O menu (among Electric Guitar, Acoustic Guitar and Keyboard). You can check out the functionality in the user manual. Thank you!
Hi, thank you vero much for your test. Very interesting. I would to ask you if it is possible to link the two units to use them in a live situation, to have for example the possibility to utilize 6 switch for 6 different presets, the balanced and unbalanced output of the ampero 1 and the better fx effect of the stomp 2.
Hi, I don't play violin or mandolin, but I would say that the Stomp II offers more effects options, for instance with parallel effects, therefore I would go with the Stomp II. Thank you, and I'm super happy that you like the video!!!
Seems like the old one would be better for gigging. Do the switches on the new one double as control switches? Meaning can you tap them twice to turn on and off effects?
Hi Ralph, I have not tried yet...so far I have use it with it's own power adapter at 18V....There should be a difference in terms of dynamic response...I have to try... Thank you for your question!
Hi Leo, congrats for your professional review. I have a question for you. I use an in-ear system monitor (Xvive U4) direct to my mooer GE300 (no mix desk connected, I prefer). Ampero II only has one stereo balanced output. Question: Is it possible to connect the in-ear monitor to one of balanced outputs? or FX send is another option? what do you recommend? Thx Leo for your comments
Hi, interesting question...I think the balance out is fine and you need a TRS to XLR jack... I'm not completely sure as I have not tried ... Thank you for your question!
Very detailed review you got there Mr. Leo and impressive playing as well.. However, in terms of tone, sound and efx simulation how would Ampero Hotone MP100 go with Boss GX 100? Which one would you recommend personally? Thank you and more power.
Thank you so much, I'm happy that you like the video!!! Actually, I have not done a direct comparison, therefore I can't tell. I would say that these are pretty different machines, with different price point and a different set of features. They both sound great (in my opinion), therefore I would base my choice between the two, considering the features offered and the price. Thank you!
Thank you so much!!! May I ask you which ones are for you the "3 famous ones". Nevertheless is always hard to make a definitive sentence, as titanically each unit has pros and cons. Thank you!
Hi, i know that's been a long time your video came out, but is possible to explain if it's possible to turn off CAB and/or IR for only one chanel L or R in the Ampero 2 Stomp?
in a blind test is very hard to tell the differences. i like multi-fx with "stomp box function" like this one (didnt bought mooers ge250 because of that, and ge300 way too big for me). There's some very small noise on the Ampero 2 or just me..? and soundwise the ampero's 2 (the small box), is better than mooer ge250? thx
Hi, thank you for sharing! As regards the noise, I didn't find the Ampero 2 be noiser than other devices. As regards Ampero 2 vs GE250, I did a comparison of the regular Ampero vs the GE 250...the regular Ampero 2 offers more options compared to the regular Ampero, but at least I think you can find some info about the tone difference: ruclips.net/video/soX8N1JP2zY/видео.html Thank you!
Thanks for the comparison, might be my speakers but I'm picking up more detail and nuance in the new Ampero. I tried a few 'blindfolded' and was able to pick the three sims apart in most cases.
Thanks for another great video! Im wondering which synth will be a better match for my synths (no guitars), Ampero 2 or L6 HX, what’s your opinion? And I’ll please let me know why…. Thanks!!!
Hi Sandro, I think it depends from the types of effects you like the most. In this video I have compared also the effects of the HX stomp vs Stomp II: ruclips.net/video/2kugoLNLqPQ/видео.html Thank you for your message!
@@LeoGibsonGtr thanks I’ll check that video as well, easy of use, and overall characteristics, do you have a preference for one to be used with synths? I’m looking for an option that is easy to take with me on long trips and can be powered (or external battery) and controlled by an IPad Pro with lots of connections for at lease 3 synths (preferably 5)
Hi Dimitri, actually I didn't as the form factor and the price are pretty different, therefore I didn't think it was a fair comparison...but for sure it is an interesting one... Thank you for your suggestion!
@@LeoGibsonGtr It depends on country where you buy this units, they are very close in price and expression pedal for Ampero 2 is not a big deal to get. But both units are very interesting to compare sound quality and would be great to hear your opinion
Hi Leo , Thanks you for your excellent review …I have a question for you, which frfr cabinet do you recommend (headrush, friedman, kemper wood or plastic), or is it better to use a power (ISP or Matrix) and a 2x12 non-frfr cabinet? Please think of it for live use of a small bar.
Hi Jorge, actually I would simply go into the mixer of the PA system... At home I use the studio monitor, live or gigging I would go into the PA system. For me there is no need to buy a specific FRFR speaker. But that just me...I don't have a FRFR speaker but I think that Friedman and Kemper are among the best. Thank you for your message!
@@LeoGibsonGtr , i want to sell my ampero, and don't know what to buy now: ampero stomp II+soul press II+ampero control, or mooer GE300. Ampero II sounds quite same, but want to try new guitar processor, maybe you can say what do you prefer more?
Hi, both are pretty good products for the price...both the units offer good sounds and effects. I would say that it depends from your budget (MG 30 price is lower), if you need the expression pedal (available in the MG30), or if you want more amps (the Stomp II has more amps), or more options in terms of parallel effects (Stomp II offers more options). Thank you for your message!
is there a difference between the Hotone Ampero and the Hotone Ampero ONE? i emailed their customer support but they arent very helpful. at least this video has been very helpful into identifying the differences between the ampero vs ampero stomp so thank you for that!
Hi, you may want to check out my demo review of the Ampero ONE. There is a section dedicated to the differences between the Ampero and the Ampero ONE. Thank you!
Hi Leo, I am just a bedroom amateur that plays music as a hobby. I’m considering going all digital as I don’t gig and cannot play a loud tube amp at home. Do you recommend this new Stomp II, or should I save money and buy the older Ampero? I trust your opinion and I usually skip straight to your two cents in every video. Thank you so much!
You are welcome, and I'm super happy to know that my opinion is valuable for your! For my use case and opinion the Stomp II is worth the extra money and if you plan to keep the modeller for few years, I would suggest to get the new version. Thank you for your message!!!
Hello Leo! I just discovered your channel today! You just got a new sub! I see that you really take care of your community. I found your video really helpful, I also watched the one where you compared this with the hx stomp. I've a difficult situation right now. I'm playing in a band now and I would like to use my electric guitar because I just used the classic flemenca one before. My budget is really limitated and I'm already making a huge effort to spend around 250€ in a product. My question is, what do you recommend me, a Laney Cub 12r (valve amp around that price that doesn't sound bad), am Ampero hotone 1 (it's around 240€) or save money during some months and get the ampere stomp 2? Does it really worth the money to play gigs? The IR Celestion made me hesitate between these two models... I will just connect the Ampero to regular speakers for the gigs, not an amp. Thank you for your time and answer Leo.
Hi, thank you so much, your sub really means a lot me!!! Well, everyone has his own personal preferences...for me, in live situation is almost unbeatable in terms of compromise between tone, easiness, reliability and weight...but that's my opinion obviously, and of course you need good FRFR speakers to get the best tones. As regards Ampero or Ampero Stomp 2, they are both great machines...I think you are gonna be happy with any of the two. Thank you once more!
@@LeoGibsonGtr Thank you very very much for your quick answer and for being so respecful Leo! it's difficult to find concerned people like you on internet. Thanks Leo for your great job.... I was waitiing for the Ampero Stomp II.... and I don't find a lot of difference with the first edition in term of quality sound. Do you plan a direct comparaison with the headrush counterpart ?
You are welcome, I'm happy you like the video! Yes...I would like to do a comparison with the HeadRush MX5....even if for next week maybe I will take some rest with comparison videos and I'm gonna do a demo / review of a unit just arrived to my studio...more on that in the coming days... :) Thank you!
Hi, thank you for your suggestion! Unfortunately I don't have the Amplifier 12...maybe in the future if I can get a good second hand occasion. Thank you!
If I do not have any I'd strongly consider, and probably go with the ASII (the price is not the king for me, even adding extra switch and exp pedal to the cost). BUT, actually having the MP-100 ('big' Ampero), I'd not upgrade to ASII now for my home usage. Maybe, later... I like the new PC app (the editor) for the ASII.
Hi! thanks for great review! But what about bass? I have Zoom B3n for my bass guitars which I use directly in line without any amps . And it sounds pretty nice. Especially for it's price ). But in some cases B3n is not good enough. Ampero Stomp seems to me a very interesting gadget (with it's IR's and other features). How do you think is it worth buying it to improve the sound for bass?
Hi George, I don't have a B3n, so I can not tell the differences from direct experience. The Stomp has pretty nice sounding bass...In my demo review there are some samples: ruclips.net/video/2bF466FJLBw/видео.html
I have both but delay and reberb, that are not the best in Ampero, are much better in AMP II, and chains and possibility to mix effects is amazing in Stomp II
Hi Leo, you always make the best demos, reviews, and comparisons. Thank you for your work! Just a shot in the dark here, but, are there any chances that you could share the tone captures you have made for the GE300?
Hi Victor, thank you so much, I'm really happy that you like and appreciate my videos! There are already some captures I've done in the Mooer web site...maybe in the future I will do more... Thank you!
Hi Leo, really nice video! I have the mooer ge300 lite. Do you think this Ampero II is overall better than the Mooer? (I really like the amps on the Mooer, but I think some effects aren't that great...) Ps: sorry about my english. Greetings from Brazil!
Hi Rafael, well these are both great machines...the Mooer has on his side the possibility to load profiles of actual amps, where the Ampero has for instance the possibility to load parallel effects, and the built in amps are nice sounding...I would be happy with both of them.
Спасибо тебе Лео за то что делаешь. I wrote in Russia, who knows maybe you know this language too. About processors, yes new one is better, but older isn't so bad, choice depends on your needs, sound is good in both cases and on gigs it doesn't matter, is too little difference to hear on live, it isn't zoom505 and it's good))))
Hi, thank you...Actualli I don't speech Russian...but google translate does...😀. Thank you also for sharing your opinion and experience!!! happy new year!!!
Hi, thank you for sharing your experience....I guess that with this chip shortage going on....things can also become worser... I hope they solve it in future...
Hi Leo, thank you for your excellent review and hard work. Question: regarding the outputs - I believe, that Stomp II in fact has the option to route out 2 signals: with the CAB or IR block at the end of the chain, you can route XLR out signal with CAB to your mixer or DAW, but you can split the signal prior to the CAB block and place effects loop SEND block to the Power Amp of your choice such as SD 170 with regular guitar speaker cabinet.
Hi, than you so much, I'm happy you like the video! I thing you can do it, but in this case you are gonna have mono fx sent to your mixer....I think Thank you!
If they had upgraded the sampling rate to at least 48K it would make more sense. The 2 sounds slightly better with the Marshall.. I think I'll stay with the original for now..
Thank you Leo for great comparison. Your videos are so in depth. For high gain sound wich generation of Ampero would you recommend? For playing heavy metal with more low end, what is your opinion, would Ampero sound good directly through 15 PA speaker. Wil there be still enough mids? Thank you :)
Hi, in terms of pure amp sounds I think that the Ampero and the Ampero II are pretty similar, but the cab section of the Ampero II is better in my opinion...so I would go with the Stomp II. Thank you for your message and I'm happy you like the video!
Another excellent video, as always. I have the original and I would not change it because it is already a lot for my use, but in a few years and if I get a used one at a good price I will not hesitate. cabinet simulations is something that can be fixed in the original, but the possibility of parallel signals and stocking effects are great, similar to hxstomp. I will wait for a comparison of both stomp!
Hi Dario, thank you so much, really appreciated! Let me just say that I have already done a comparison with the HX Stomp, and you can check it out here: ruclips.net/video/2kugoLNLqPQ/видео.html
Just a comment: in the first Ampero user can switch presets in the Looper without tone change, only overdub tone is changing. In Stomp II the overall tone changes with preset switching. That's kinda strange, but anyway, the Looper capabilities in both devices are really bad and it's better to have a separate Looper pedal connected to Ampero. This is how I play for now, Ampero One is connected with Ditto Looper. :) P.S. did anyone have a problem with connecting Stomp-II to the PC? My PC can't see the Stomp :(... I've tried anything.
14:17 Dynamic range still have lot more need to be improved. I would said overall Ampero II has significant improvement compared to the 1st gen, however, the dynamic range still have lot gap between real amp or other 1st rank sims. But considering the price, bro, what do u want for such little bucks
Thanks for video! Good as always! But there is no answer if the same amp in stomp sounds the same as in original ampero. Or it sounds better/worse. Here we can hear little difference between devices and they close to real amp. But no understanding if there is better modeling in ampero stomp. But there is much more reverbs and modulation for shure =) And little correction: in original ampero 20 IR slots with latest firmware, not 10
Hi thank you! In my opinion the amp modelling itself is almost identical, while the cab section has been improved and there are more amps simulations in the Stomp II. As regards effects, the Stomp II is for sure an improvement over its predecessor. Thanks for the correction about the number of Its
Hi, thank you for sharing....in my opinion yes...also the cab section have been improved and the fx loop and the possibility to use the stomp II with the 4 cable method are pretty important. But obviously this is my use case and my opinion...
There is no drum machin in ampero 2 stomp. It's totally ridiculous for price! Whats going on in china! Built a good peice of tech and remove something useful in it! Why you can't act normal 😂

You are welcome! I'm happy you like the video!

Here you can find a video dedicated to the latency of the Ampero Stomp 2: ruclips.net/video/NyPKqOHZeek/видео.html
I hope you enjoy!
Thank you!
@@LeoGibsonGtr may i know what kind of latency were you talking about here Sir?
Great video as always. Please do a comparison video of Fractal FM3 !
Thank you!
I love you man! Thank you!
You are welcome and I'm super happy that you like the video!!!
Hi Leo, in your opinion which one would be better suited for acoustic violin and Mandolin? Thank you in advance ,and awesome reviews 😊🐝
Hi, yes, the Ampero II offers also a stomp mode.
Thank you for your message!
Thanks Leo for another professional review. Would there be any difference running the Stomp on 9V or 18V?
Thank you!
Great comparison, from all the 3 famous ones that you been testing, which one you think is closer to the original amps? Nux Mooer or Ampero?
Thank you so much!!! May I ask you which ones are for you the "3 famous ones". Nevertheless is always hard to make a definitive sentence, as titanically each unit has pros and cons. Thank you!

Hi, i know that's been a long time your video came out, but is possible to explain if it's possible to turn off CAB and/or IR for only one chanel L or R in the Ampero 2 Stomp?
Hi, considering that the Ampero 2 can manage 2 independent chain for the output A and B, I think it is possible.
Thank you
in a blind test is very hard to tell the differences. i like multi-fx with "stomp box function" like this one (didnt bought mooers ge250 because of that, and ge300 way too big for me). There's some very small noise on the Ampero 2 or just me..? and soundwise the ampero's 2 (the small box), is better than mooer ge250? thx
Hi, thank you for sharing!
As regards the noise, I didn't find the Ampero 2 be noiser than other devices.
As regards Ampero 2 vs GE250, I did a comparison of the regular Ampero vs the GE 250...the regular Ampero 2 offers more options compared to the regular Ampero, but at least I think you can find some info about the tone difference: ruclips.net/video/soX8N1JP2zY/видео.html
Thank you!
Thanks for the comparison, might be my speakers but I'm picking up more detail and nuance in the new Ampero. I tried a few 'blindfolded' and was able to pick the three sims apart in most cases.
Hi Derek, thank you for sharing your opinion and experience!
Thanks for another great video! Im wondering which synth will be a better match for my synths (no guitars), Ampero 2 or L6 HX, what’s your opinion? And I’ll please let me know why…. Thanks!!!
Hi Sandro, I think it depends from the types of effects you like the most. In this video I have compared also the effects of the HX stomp vs Stomp II: ruclips.net/video/2kugoLNLqPQ/видео.html
Thank you for your message!
Leo, have you ever made comparison between Ampero 2 and Nux MG30?
Hi Dimitri, actually I didn't as the form factor and the price are pretty different, therefore I didn't think it was a fair comparison...but for sure it is an interesting one...
Thank you for your suggestion!
@@LeoGibsonGtr It depends on country where you buy this units, they are very close in price and expression pedal for Ampero 2 is not a big deal to get. But both units are very interesting to compare sound quality and would be great to hear your opinion
My dear Leo, when are you going to review these pedalboards with a bass? 😢
Thank you for your suggestion! Not been a bass player...I'm a bit reluctant to do such videos....

Great video again. I want to connect Ampero 2 (arrives next week) direct to PA desk. How can I do it without DI boxes?
I think you need to do this wia cable (TRS jack to XLR)
Exactly, TRS to XLR
Thank you!
@@LeoGibsonGtr and there is some kind of adapter?
@@LeoGibsonGtr , i want to sell my ampero, and don't know what to buy now: ampero stomp II+soul press II+ampero control, or mooer GE300. Ampero II sounds quite same, but want to try new guitar processor, maybe you can say what do you prefer more?
You just need the cable
Thanks Leo! One question, how does it compare with the Nux MG-30 and which one would you choose? Cheers!

Unfortunately I don't have the Amplifier 12...maybe in the future if I can get a good second hand occasion.

Hello, can you edit preamp and power amp separately?
Hi, if I remember it well, the Ampero offers two different sim dedicated to preamp and power amp....I'm not 100% sure
Hi, thank you for sharing your opinion and experience!!!
Hi! thanks for great review!
Hi Claudio, I do agree...effects sound better in Ampero II stomp for me too...
Thank you for sharing!
But could be something upgradeable in the old
Model as well
Hi, maybe the new effects require more DPS power, and therefore it is something not working in the old models

I have the mooer ge300 lite. Do you think this Ampero II is overall better than the Mooer? (I really like the amps on the Mooer, but I think some effects aren't that great...)
Ps: sorry about my english. Greetings from Brazil!
Hi Rafael, well these are both great machines...the Mooer has on his side the possibility to load profiles of actual amps, where the Ampero has for instance the possibility to load parallel effects, and the built in amps are nice sounding...I would be happy with both of them.

I wrote in Russia, who knows maybe you know this language too.
About processors, yes new one is better, but older isn't so bad, choice depends on your needs, sound is good in both cases and on gigs it doesn't matter, is too little difference to hear on live, it isn't zoom505 and it's good))))

Hi, thank you for sharing your experience....I guess that with this chip shortage going on....things can also become worser... I hope they solve it in future...
leo where can i find the amp list of the hotone ampero II stomp?
Hi, in the user manual that you can download from the Hotone web site.
I thing you can do it, but in this case you are gonna have mono fx sent to your mixer....I think
Thank you!
@@LeoGibsonGtr tested - using the Y -> A/B split the A chain output to balanced stereo out, the chain B route to FX SND. It works just as it should.

P.S. did anyone have a problem with connecting Stomp-II to the PC? My PC can't see the Stomp :(... I've tried anything.
