I think the issue is that he became so well-known for getting absolutely demolished by Nolan Ryan that his actual playing career is basically never talked about
Mr. Medium is from my hometown. I went to HS with his younger brother _(quiet dude, good at piano),_ and there's a field with his name on it a couple miles from my house. One of the few insta-lock RefGuesses I've ever had. He was a really good player people forget about, so thanks for the love, Jolly :-).
Max - "2021 was a pretty depressing year in Yankees land" Meanwhile, they went 92-70 and made the playoffs. Get back to me when you're wallowing in the pits of depression with your franchise. I have no sympathy for the Yanks lol.
Robin Ventura was the only example I can think of where a player peaked with the Mets that was not homegrown, who had his best season with us, AND their contributions led to team success. We made the playoffs and took the Braves to game 6. Also the rain delay highlight of him imitating Piazza is pure gold.
Pretty shocked at the struggle on Robin Ventura. That 99 Mets team was crazzzzzy. I remember the Sports Illustrated cover with them "Best Infield Ever". Then again....its easy when you're a Mets fan
He was legitimately a great player in Texas. Huge power and solid OBP due to a lot of walks, he ran well and was a great defender in the outfield, he earned those 2 gold gloves. Idk what made his bat fall off so hard or why teams are using him at first base now but I hope he finds it again because I loved watching him play back then
@@Whitsoxrule1Hes gotten older and slower. I think that’s mainly why he has moved to 1st. And yea it’s shocking he fell off so hard. It was rough watching him on the Twins. He seems like an incredible guy though. Seems like a great dude to hang out with.
JOLLY OLIVE! I think it's clear what you have to do from now on you legend. All hards from this point on, should be career players for my beloved White Sox. The office never seems to know any of the great players that spent the majority of their careers for my dear Sox. It is hard for them, so make them hard my friend
@@thenextsteveblackman Yeah- grew up on the same street as you guys. I actually got to know Don more than Ben in high school, but I still see Ben on FB nowadays. I just moved back to town 2 years ago.
Easiest way to stump these guys is asking about Chicago baseball. 3rd largest city, 2 teams, 275 combined franchise seasons of MLB history. I guess that speaks to how mediocre Chicago baseball has been lol. If you don't know who Steve Stone is can't expect you to get Robin Ventura (even though he was manager of the White Sox in the 2010s).
Oof, rough week for Max but the way I keep advocating for a 90s All-Stars round it's targeting his weakness. Glad to see BBD get Ventura to move back into third! I had to list out every single Yankees-Dodgers World Series years to arrive at the answer, but that seems like a Lucas move.
I've suggested this before, but with Father's Day coming up - I think a fun theme would be MLB fathers one week and then another week have MLB sons (not of the same dads from the previous week, since that would be, ya know, kinda easy)
Max is like 25 or something, though surprised he jumped to Miguel Cairo too. Sounds like Hubris got him. I mean there's three big rookies on the 90 White Sox, and two of them are super easy to get. But I understand someone his age blanking on Ventura
I got Ventura based on all the baseball cards I would get in the late 90s early 2000s swear I had about 15 of the same card of Ventura on the white Sox and reading the back of the card over and over
Is anybody else keeping track of their score or am I the only nerd out there lol. I'm at 25 right now right behind Jomboy, I feel like this season has more 90s players than before they started keeping score which is hurting me, when this started I was confident I could be top 3 if I were in the office based on how good I was at the original version of this game. Luckily as a Sox fan I got medium instantly
Wait was Joez not talking about Ozzie Guillen? Because he was a SS. Was he talking about Jose Guillen? Because Ozzie makes way much more sense in the context of Robin Ventura.
Joey Gallo is such a joke. Look at those numbers. You DO NOT get to keep your job and make that money with that resume. What are we doing? He is one of the WORST baseball players to ever suit up. Literally. He has almost 3 times the amount of career strikeouts as he does hits. The dude isn’t a baseball player. That should never have been his occupation. It’s nearly impossible to articulate it’s so frustrating. I have more talent in my 41 year old body than he did in his teens and 20s
Kinda ruined it by spoiling Kuroda. I know who he is but don’t think I would’ve gotten there. For people playing along it kinda sucks when you say the answer before
Jake is a certified ball knower and I root for him the hardest. Big jake fan over here
Big talkin jake fan
Hard to root against any of them tbh
Agreed, jake you’re the fuckin man
I love how petty he is with all the max comments early on
He’s also the funniest.
"10 wasn't sexy enough." "you gotta be sexy sometimes" fcking killed me
11:08 whenever Jomboy is on Talking Baseball nowadays.
He's a little on the older side but I'm shocked more people didn't know the medium today.
Damn zoomers.
Most of them know everything about baseball the last few years and shockingly little about anything before they started watching
@@mindyourbuisness8104that’s… that’s usually how it goes

To be fair most of his career happened before many of them were born. And like the other guy said nobody talks about his numbers only the Ryan fight.

They wouldn’t last a day as a Mets fan
Or an Angels fans.
Or a Mariners fan
Very pleased to see Jimmy redeem himself this week. Not knowing who Aramis Ramirez is was tough to see.

Jolly for sure swapped Kuroda and Ventura to cut down Max's lead 😂
Pretty shocked at the struggle on Robin Ventura. That 99 Mets team was crazzzzzy. I remember the Sports Illustrated cover with them "Best Infield Ever". Then again....its easy when you're a Mets fan
These people are like 25
Chan Ho Park would have been a good NY/LA combo XD
Its crazy how gallo can be in the league because he hit a lot of home runs a couple times. This was definitely just to troll the Yankees fans
People forget had a good glove though
He was legitimately a great player in Texas. Huge power and solid OBP due to a lot of walks, he ran well and was a great defender in the outfield, he earned those 2 gold gloves. I had Ventura in 2 seconds… but he’s from my hometown and I had his Hot Corner poster on my wall in the early/mid 90s, so I had a bit of an advantage.

The struggles with Ventura is wild lmao
Ventura was part of that Mets best defensive infield of all time crew with Olerud, Alfonso, and Ordonez.
Santa Maria, California's own Robin Ventura. He was our hometown hero when I was growing up. Though I was honestly never really a fan of his.
Hometown boy, and I was definitely a fan!

The struggle on Medium makes me wonder if Jomboy will ever do a retro breakdown video on Nolan Ryan's most famous fight.

I got Robin Ventura instantly... also used him for Immaculate Grid this AM
This was the first refguess in a long time (maybe ever) where I got all 3 virtually immediately. Still got the trivia wrong though :(
LaGreca still asking the caller how Easy is hurting the Yankees LOL

I was doing a Joez over here on Medium. FFS, I'm a Rangers fan... how did I not get Robin Ventura?
Max missed that guy?!? I’m floored. The CWS 3B for pretty much the entirety of the 90’s! I don’t know if they’re too young or if I’m too old.
Max is like 25 or something, though surprised he jumped to Miguel Cairo too. Sounds like Hubris got him.

Boy, a career 108 ops+ with 200 HR while hitting under the Mendoza line is bizarre. I wonder how many people have that line...
When we doing a cardinal/cub one? Lackey Lester Fowler Heyward Jon Jay Joe Torre. A LOT OF GOOD NAMES. So many more
I’m over here SCREAMING the medium name! Come on, guys!!!
Was hoping for Bill Skowron for hard but I'm old at heart...

This week in Joez embarrassment, "Guillen was an outfielder."
I totally blanked on Ventura that’s a tough look
Kinda shocked Max slipped up on Medium, given I think he's the best refguesser I've seen
Why does Jolly Olive have a halo in this series? Saying it every timw
Wow I totally nailed it with 11 times!! Totally just an educated guess.
The first name that popped up in my head was Joey Gallo and of course he was the easy one
Wake n jake with the big dub
Jake is not fair!
Robin Ventura has nearly 5,000 more ABs in his career than Gallo and struck out less. FIVE THOUSAND. THATS THOUSAND T H O U S A N D
JOLLY THE MIC DOESNT HAVE TO BE HALFWAY DOWN YOUR THROAT ALL THE TIME
jake is goated
Slightly disappointed that there was a golden opportunity to use Steve Sax and it wasn’t taken
big fan of throwing in some older players. how about giving them some old HoFers - make them stretch!
Kuroda I got in 1 second, wish it was medium
Giving away hard is CRAZY
Dodger Legend Joey Gallo

Miguel Cairo 😮😄
I was waiting for Ricky Ledee
Miguel Cairo, who of course, famously hit 300 home runs in his career. That’s a REALLY BAD guess bro
Miguel Cairo hit 41 career homers Bud
I got one that Max didn’t get. Today is a holy day (6/13)
Todd Zeile never played 2B for anyone, ever. Come on Joez
should've done park
Difficulty was on the easier side this ep
Was hoping for Randy Choate to be the hard.
that medium was so easy
Don't know how i got Robin Ventura within a second and quicker than Joey Gallo.
“White Sox” is both singular and plural.
Medium was easier for me for some reason
Hilarious to me that these "ball knowers" don't know Robin Ventura
Wait was Joez not talking about Ozzie Guillen? Because he was a SS. Was he talking about Jose Guillen? Because Ozzie makes way much more sense in the context of Robin Ventura.
I assume jose because of the arm comment
gallo, ventura, kuroda, 11 (NYY leads 8-3)
How dare you not include Marcus Thames
Jake is a seam head
Blind guess Kevin Brown?
1955 when the real dodgers won
Randy Tate for hard next time.
missed by one day :(
I did guess eleven
Easy is Mark Davis. Spoiler
easiest Hard ive ever seen in this channel
Easiest hard question yet?
No way. Yankees Dodgers?? So special. Lamest two franchises to be a fan of.

What a shock. Yankees, Dodgers. The only two teams JM Media ever take about. Sad to see this happen go what could have been a great channel.
Last one was NL central teams so what are you on about?
Womp womp
Normally I would agree, but they play each other this weekend so it makes sense.
