Professional Driveway Sealcoating #45 "Leaves, leaves, leaves."

- Here we have Part 2 of our Giraffe Tools video. In part 1, we cleaned some outdoor equipment and parts of this driveway. A few weeks later we cleaned out some of the larger cracks and then filled them with our trowel-grade crack filler and for this job, that will be just fine. What we're trying to do here is give this driveway one or two more years before repaving. We let the crack filler set for 48 hours before coming back to sealcoat. People have been asking how do we measure or do we know how much material we use on these jobs. Im finally able to show that in this video. As I said in the introduction, this ended up being an incredibly windy day. As long as the driveway is sealed underneath, that's ok. You can see what it looks like "6 weeks later" at the end of the video. I was able to shoot that footage on Thanksgiving day. This driveway took 106 gallons to seal. I honestly thought it would have taken more. If you have anymore questions, leave them below. I will try to answer them unless the REAL EXPERTS get to you first. Thanks everyone for watching. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

The product we are using is: ***Asphalt Emulsion***
What is an asphalt emulsion?
Asphalt emulsion is a combination of three basic ingredients, asphalt, water, and small amount of an emulsifying agent. In the same process, these components are introduced into a mechanism known as a colloid mill, which shears the asphalt into tiny droplets. The emulsifier, which is a surface-active agent, keeps the asphalt droplets in a stable suspension and controls the breaking time. The result is a liquid product with a consistency ranging from that of milk to heavy cream, which can be used in cold processes for road construction and maintenance.
Why use asphalt emulsions?
Asphalt emulsion does not require a petroleum solvent to make it liquid and in most cases asphalt emulsions can be used without additional heat. Both of these factors contribute to energy savings. Additionally, asphalt emulsions offer great flexibility in their application since they offer the end-user a great variety of characteristics not found in other paving and maintenance materials. Asphalt emulsions are environmentally friendly. There are little or no hydrocarbon emissions created with their use.

What is SEALCOATING and why should I do it?
1. Sealcoating protects and prolongs the life expectancy of asphalt pavement by filling surface damage and providing a protective layer to keep out damaging UV rays, vehicle fluids, and water.
2. The low cost of regular sealcoating can save you money in the long run. A properly maintained and sealed asphalt surface has an extended lifetime and reduces long-term repair costs.
3. With exposure to the elements, asphalt pavement over time becomes faded in appearance. A fresh sealcoat application enhances the appearance of asphalt, making it look and wear like new.
4. Sealcoating is typically done using one of two application methods: spray or squeegee/brush.
5. Sealcoating accelerates the melting process of snow and ice on pavement surfaces. This helps to protect against water penetration, rain, frost and snow damage.
6. To correctly complete the sealcoating process, the air and pavement temperature is recommended to be at least 55 degrees Fahrenheit for the duration of the application and for eight hours following the application.
7. Prior to pavement sealing, the asphalt surface should be cleared of all dirt and debris. In addition, minor repairs, like potholes and cracks, should be filled and vehicle fluids, like oil, should be properly removed.

Never thought this was my thing but i love these videos . Great job all the way around.
I appreciate that. Thanks for watching, Sammy!
Beautiful job as always, Gregory. It's so interesting to watch details such as how you measure the tank level and fill cracks. I know creating these videos is a job unto itself, so thanks for taking the time to share your skills with us.
Thank you. And you’re right, it took longer to make the video than it did to seal this driveway.
Cool video. I like the fire in the beginning.
🔥
That driveway was truly in need of some love. End result looks great, just in time for a family event,
Yes indeed. Thanks for watching.
im always supportive of your videos.......
Yes you are. Thank you so much! 😊
Hey guys , you did a hell of a job to sealcoating this driveway, but at the end you did a great job 👍💪, i enjoyed it, thanks for showing 😃🫂
Johann. Thanks for watching!
Ahhhh, I was wondering who Mr. Helpie Helperton was... New Guy... Trainee... New systems purchaser??? Then I saw the house and recognized it was your folks place. That must be your Pop. Now I see where you get your dashing good looks from.
Yes! My dad came out and helped rough the job for me. I give him an A+. I’d hire him in a second. 😂
I didn’t realize it was Dad until he checked the mail. I was like wait a minute now lol
Miracles do happen! 😉
Indeed they do.
Always an awesome job and the results are on point. Keep up the great work and the cool videos. It's like watching something addictive that I have to watch right to the end
I appreciate that. Thanks for supporting the channel. 👍
Wow!! You made the driveway looks so beautiful! ✌️🥰
Thank you 😊
Thanks for the great video!

You guys do such a great job.

Came out looking great!

Damn fall leaves. Looking like a hassle. Now do leaves ruin the seal or just get in the way? Cool stuff man!
They just get in the way. As long as it’s sealed underneath, you’re good. You can see the 6 weeks after at the end. It turned out just fine. 👍
@SEALCOATING IS LIFE I saw that. It looked great at 6 weeks. I was cringing cause your work is so persice when hundreds of leaves were falling i was like eeeeek. Dont ruin that solid job hahah!
It really didn’t effect it. 😌
Going to have to do the same thing next year
Good luck
Ugh he has such a soothing voice 😊😅
Thank you ☺️
Is that a cold mix, or do you buy it hot and put it on?
Cold
Anything your Dad can't do?
That job might have been fun too. 🤩
He’s the best dad in the world. I’m a very lucky guy.
Hi did you use quick dry on this job? I have a sealcoat company here in Mass i notice if i dont use the quick dry late in the year it never dries or takes days?
Not for this one. We do use QSA. But for this job I waited until we had a 72 hour stretch of above 50 degrees weather and no clouds just full sunshine.
Hello, just started watching your videos. Do you use a go pro for your camera?
I know the one on your head is but the far away shots is that a go pro as well.
Very captivating and exciting to watch. Going to get started soon.
Hey, thanks for watching. Yes, I use two GoPro 7s while I’m filming. One on a tripod and the other on my head.
Wow what a difference! Looks new. Not sure I would have paid to have that done if I was repaving next year.
It was free for them 😉
@@SEALCOATINGISLIFE loud and clear
Great job. Where did you get that chart ?
I don’t even remember. We’ve had it forever. I’ll ask my partner.
@@SEALCOATINGISLIFE ok thanks
tremendous job! So how do you mitigate the wind/leaves issue? I'm worried the client would want the job redone
As linty as it’s sealed underneath, you’re good. There’s nothing you can do about leaves as you get into the fall months.
Beautiful job! And do you work in winter too? And if you apply the sealer to the road, does ice always form on it?
Thanks. In winter I work odd jobs and do video editing. The black will help with ice melting in winter time.
Hello from Western PA! Do you buy your sealer in bulk or do you get it filled locally? If you buy in bulk, what brand do you recommend? Thanks!
Sick
Great work. Why bother if repaved in a year?
I owed the owner a favor.!
So what was it that you were measuring and what was that chart telling you to do? Seems interesting.
I was measuring how much sealer we used for this particular job. The inches indicate how many gallons of sealer we have.
@@SEALCOATINGISLIFE awesome! Thanks for the response
@@SEALCOATINGISLIFEso you charge by the gal you use? I thought you measure and times it by the square ft and you give them a price. Example .20x100square or you do it differently?
I keep forgetting to ask this, and I'm sure someone has already asked, but how long do you have to wait for it to dry? And how can you look after your driveway once it has been sealed. Is there any special treatment?
24 hours to walk and 48 to drive. Sometimes a little more and sometimes less. Keep it clean if you can. Try not to turn your tires at a dead stop.
Does your scraper (I know that's definitely not the right term lol) do a good job of getting rid of any leaves that fall on the surface while you are working?
its a brush. All that matters is the the driveway is sealed underneath the leavers.
Exceptional preparation and overall result, however, with this been said I would consider Geveko ChipFill for those fatigue cracks, it is a resilient and durable repair and prolong the lifetime of the asphalt, it is worth considering
This driveway will be repaved soon. I didn't want to put too much into it.
Was this your own driveway? If not it still turned out great!
My parents.
@@SEALCOATINGISLIFE how much u charge them lol

@@SEALCOATINGISLIFE haha nice !
Man that's a long driveway. What are you measuring and then looking at the booklet for?
I’m checking to see how many gallons of sealer I used. People in the comments are always asking, “how much sealer did that job take?”. By measuring, I’m able to show exactly how much I used.
Ok, thanks for explaining, awesome job🥳
You know after watching this video this is a good looking product its not a shiny black but a good looking black ... how gal u used on this job? I was going buy a 180 gal sealer tank to get started is that to big or to small or that will work for alot jobs? Thank you
This job was just under 100 gallons. I made a video showing how I measured it.
@@SEALCOATINGISLIFE so 180 would be a great starter.
It depends on how much you’re planning on doing. Bigger is always better. You don’t want to fill up twice in one day.
Doesn't the surface become slippery after sealcoating? Do u add something to avoid the slippery effect ? Thanks, asking becauze
We have pretty cold winter in our region
Is it slippery? #shorts

Hi im a sealcoater from western canada... i notice sometimes you wear face protection and sometimes you dont. Whats the concern when your using AE and not CT? - adam from romans sealcoating
Hey Adam, the mask I wear is a dust mask, essentially. I have a lot of allergy and sinus issues. I wear my mask when im having trouble with my sinuses, usually in the spring/summer.
Do use the sprayer system and just take the nozzle off so that it pours out
Yes
Why don't you spray? #shorts

I bought a giraffe tools 150ft hose reel and after 5 months, it wouldn’t retract and has become useless.
I’m sorry to hear that. Did they replace it?
What can i do im tryna start a business and dont have a pressure washer to use

What the hell do you do now, damn leaves.
they run the show
I’d sit on a skate board

leaves are falling😫
This one was the worst I’ve ever seen.
Why not buy yourself a torch and a small tank and melt the real stuff rather than that bs home depot stuff .I have been doing crack seal work and sealing along with striping for 20 yrs
👍
How did the leaves come off?
they just grid out/fall off
