Nick’s face didn’t exactly say that. He was disappointed, and I understand why. He’s putting in the time and work, which hasn’t yet paid off for him. Hopefully, he perseveres and capitalizes when his chance comes.
So nice to see a fair chase hunt with these quality animals in natural COVER. which is/are slashings, switchgrass, cattails, brambles, briars, and in Nicks case, bullrushes. Instead of food plots planted around heated box blinds.

I plant them in places that make for easy access without spooking deer, and where I need them to in order to hunt certain winds. I also have the option to manipulate the habit around it in order create things like cover and bedding where I see fit so the deer come and go where I need them to as a compliment to my setup. When I hunt natural food sources on public land, I’m at the mercy of the terrain, the deer’s movement patterns, and pressure from other hunters.
@@davidjackson9712 now you’re just comparing public land to private 😂. I have my stand on my oak ridge set up so I can get there easily and quietly, and I can make bedding etc. if I want. None of that is relevant. There’s no difference in a grove of oaks or a grove of apples or persimmons. There’s no difference in a planted field of clover etc. and the natural fields that are supposed to be throughout North America. And therefore there’s only one difference in food plots and natural food sources- the guy with the food plot gave back to the animals by giving his time and money to take care of them, and the guy hunting the natural food is simply taking.

Well, heard my first grunting buck ever. Sadly, I thought it was a hog, and that it was further away behind me and I got spotted turning around to get ready. Small basket rack buck, that ran past my brother a couple hundred yards away. That big 8 was a beauty!
That big deer is like the logo on all our hunting equipment growing up. Just a big heavy perfect representation of the species. I know where i'd be opening day of gun.
I love days like this in the woods! I cant understand why you guys don't hick in with saddle equipment. More work but big gains! If you have it with you then you can use it or not. Great footage. Congrats on the buck!
A lesson for new hunters. Pay attention to how long that 8 stays on high alert. Deer do that, especially those of that caliber, for longer than you'd imagine. Patience will forever reign supreme.
