I love enabling Team Projects in After Effects not for collaboration, but because it offers more modern Auto-Save feature (saving every step without annoying Auto-Save pop-up).
Great points! Whereas I agree most obsolete functions are good to be dropped, on the paint tools section, there is one tool I still wish AE brought back... Vector Paint. It had this Shift+ draw function which would record strokes real time way better than the current paint tools do. The only shortcoming, at the time they didn't implement a checkbox to save us from having to keep Shift key pressed continuously while drawing. It could be applied on comps and not only layer view like current paint tools. Great for tracing over other layers, it was vector based, and playback speed could be adjusted after the fact, as well as brush size. Please Adobe bring an evolved version back.

In recent years AE has gotten more and more bloated and often takes an age to open. I wish Adobe would build a stream-lined version.. Give us a management tool so that we can choose what we need. I'm sure that would require a complete top down rewrite of the framework. But it feels like this is long long overdue.
