I have heard ED say in either a presentation, or one of the Facebook lives the freight cars is to make the consist look more like it did back in the day. They have to have something to help with braking.
Ya why freight cars only that much, I can see huge amount of freight cars taking too certain place and idk more fright get drop off or passenger cars but last tour they had had full of fright cars till they reach certain destination drop those fright cars off and then pulled passenger cars so far then back that same destination drop passenger cars off and repick up same freight cars took went back home doesn’t make since to me
The passenger cars get cleaned and maintain in Council Bluffs, IA, so that is why those don't stay on the entire time. Those cars are used for other trips pulled by diesels. I saw one by chance when vising family in Nebraska.
Freight cars are for braking, coaches are probably getting added later. Don’t quote me on the coaches part. Diesel is technically no longer needed since 4014 now has a self-contained PTC system, meaning the only need for a diesel now is for more braking power so they don’t have to use 4014’s brakes as much.
I love seeing the caboose on the consist😊

What’s the point of the freight cars, where are the rest of the coaches, diesel locomotive?

@@geomodelrailroader It is actually in Council Bluffs, IA.
ED has said publicly numerous times they need extra cars for braking. They take the freight out of Cheyenne until the need the passenger cars.
