My 2000 TJ with 255K is still rolling and has been my daily driver since I bought it new in 2000. I have a sport with the factory hardtop and recently added a boom mat to help with some heat and noise. A little late as I now have hearing aids most likely due to the road noise! What can I say… I still love it!
BUY!!!! BUY!!!! I would daily one again in a heartbeat.
I inherit a 01 sport tj from my grandfather after he passed, gave it a boob job with some 17 weld rims with some 35inch tires and a BBL with a 4inch rough country lift just TLC. Now I’m looking into putting in a super charger kit. Very fun and good car.
I wouldn't typically buy a 2 door but a little old jeep is fun! And you don't have to worry too much about scratching it up.
I love my lifted 2002 wrangler. Take the top off, hit the beach, and its a ton of fun. It really is good offroad compared to any other vehicle.
But..... I rarely daily it. You are correct, it just handles like crap on the road and a lift only amplifies the inherent poor driving manners.
As a Jeep guy, that was a good review. I will happily Just Empty Every Pocket for that top down, trail riding, summer experience like no other! The heater core is problematic and difficult to replace for the novice. With only hit or miss import replacements available. The 4.0 is one tough engine. The weakness is cracked pistons. Low oil pressure is due to worn cam bearings. The 2003 and up have overdrive. One thing to look for is a Dana 44 rear axle. The standard issue Dana 35 is very prone to failure when larger tires are installed.
Appreciate the additional info!
I bought a 97 TJ that had its suspension and fenders customized for rock crawling on 35's 5 years ago at 215,000 miles. Now it sits around 246,000 miles since its my daily driver. I got extremely lucky that the previous owner knew what they were doing with the suspension since I drive 80 mph going to work every morning and dont have to deal with drift or lack of power.
My sister wanted one of these for years, so a couple of years ago she got a 2004 Jeep; she hated it for all three weeks she owned it. She drove it for 5 of the days she owned it & it was getting repaired the rest of the time!
They are truly a terrible daily driver 🤣
I bought a 2004 back in 2010. General maintenance. I did replace the rear main last year. Starting in 2006 they did come out with a deeper transmission pan.
Very good review. I got mine new in 04 and still have it. Now its got 70K miles No rust but I'm located in So Cal. I still love my Jeep and would not sell it.
I have a early 97 model Sport with 254k 5 speed factory optioned Dana 44 in the rear with a LSD it was never lifted and even had the original starter on it when I picked it up this past October they are awesome vehicles to drive , own, operate , why drive something you don’t know how to work on
$6k? buy all day. tough finding a decent one under 10k
TJ’s don’t leak, they mark their territory .
Sounds like piston slap😅 need to look into it before its too late
Lol you obviously haven't owned a 4.0. They are known for the lifters collapsing and making that sound. You lose a little performance but they can go another 100,000 easy that way.
@@RogerHays-p9u actually i have. And blown cylinder 5 piston apart because of it. Kind of crazy people have massive balls online and will call people out without knowing them like that over something so stupid 😂. Oh and i had the 4.0 in a 1997 Wrangler and a 1993 Cherokee.
@@tristarOffroad ok ...Ill admit I could have worded that better. I forget how sensitive people are. I won't change it because don't want to look like I'm hiding from the comment, but will say I didn't mean it that way. Though if you want to see my balls, my schedule is open.. lol hell I might even pitch in and help you fix it.
Put some oil in that time Bomb!😅
No standard transmission makes it a bust. Hard pass
