I also am returning this cage so you do not have to worry about PetSmart making any profit off this purchase, I’ve also slipped a note into the box incase someone else purchases one not knowing proper hamster care 😁 This is in no way to bash PetSmart, I am just very disappointed and hope they are willing to create better cages in the future. I mean, I love not moving as much as the next lazy AF person. I don't like being IMPRISONED. That's what these cages are. Prisons. And FFS, at least the Crittertrails had longer tubes that didn't force your pet to join the fricken' Cirque du Soleil as a contortionist. I made the Crittertail mistake when I first got my mice. Some $400 later, they're in 31.5x20/630 sq inch cages (that much $$$ cause I kept trying to fix things the WRONG way haha). For the most part. I do have a few smaller cages that I use for quarantine/hospital tanks, but not CT sized. Bottom line - these cages are cruel prisons that cost WAY more than it's worth.
We recently got our first dwarf hamster and this cage was recommended. After having the hamster in it for a week we realized she was peeing in the tube that went up to the clubhouse. Did some research and realized it was waaaay to small. Thanks for doing videos like this to educate novices.
For some reason I feel affended when people say kids shouldn’t have hamsters bc a lot of 9, 10 year old kids are very responsible and care for them such as I!
My hamster has this cage but has a tube connect to it so she can go from hers to the extra and the extra is 2.5 times bigger and she likes this one more

@@tracypineda972 If you removed the hide in this one, your hamster will move his stash to the hide in the larger enclosure, especially if you have five to six inches of bedding in the larger enclosure vs the at most two inches in this awful tiny cage...
When I was a child my parents brought me a hamster for Christmas. It was advertised as " ideal first pet" apparently hamsters take minimum effort to take care of 😤. I knew nothing about them I just classed them as a toy. It had a tiny cage with tubes leading up to the second level. I used to over feed it and it eventually became too big to go into the tubes. When I was at school it forced it's way through the tube and for stuck. Sadly it died at the age of 4 months and I've felt guilty ever since. Parents please don't buy your children hamsters as Christmas presents and then stick them in a tiny cage. If you wouldn't stick your dog or cat into a tiny cage where they can't even move why would you do it to a hamster?
A lot of people CLAIM since hamsters are small they need small cages or they somehow feel more comfortable in small cages. What animal would ever feel comfortable somewhere they cant even turn around in lol
Hamsters are NOT toys! Think of humans. Imagine if hamsters treated HUMANS like that. If you wouldn’t like it, neither would a HAMSTER! When I went to get a tank for my hamster (and all the other stuff including the hamster, shamed I BOUGHT my hamster) they tried to sell me one of the actual cages, I wisely refused. I ACTUALLY TOLD THEM THAT THOSE CAGES AREN’T SUITABLE BUT WHY WOULD THEY LISTEN TO A KID?!?!! (I’m salty right here)
A petsmart recently opened in my town, I went in there and the first thing I saw was the tiny tales. They have this thing where an employee chooses what they think is the best stuff for a cage. They had cedar shavings and tiny tales as their recommended. It hurts seeing parents buying them just because they look cute and want to keep their kid distracted. As adults, they should know that no living animal should be put in these dollhouses.
Just so you're aware when I worked in retail the employee recommended displays were not selected by employees they are made by corporate and an employee name is slapped on it
I wished they would use the kaytee super habitat as the recommended cage instead. You think they would considering its more expensive. And can fit in more toys.
I don’t own any hamsters, nor do I plan to own one, but lots of my friends or people I know do. It really makes me sad because one of my closest friends has that exact cage, another one of my closest friends had a hamster In a tiny tales cage that died, and somebody who I know has a hamster that is monkey barring. I am going to try and tell them, but the one who’s hamster died knows the correct care now.
From a comment on the petition: "I'm a former Petsmart employee. One of the things I hated about a job I otherwise enjoyed was having to talk customers out of an inappropriate setup for their animal. The customers trust our judgement, but not so much when what we (the company) sell does not match our (the sales associates') recommendations. Let's give them something worth trusting."
As a 13 year old with 4 hamsters, this makes me so sad. Each of my hamster ( even the dwarfs, they are not different than any other hamster ) live in a 55 gallon glass tank. There are so many problems with this cage, and i find it disgusting that pet smart markets cages like that 😕 hamsters need large cages!
Actually no bin cages are not cheap most of the time. 20 dollar bin cages are less than 450 sq inches so usually the proper sized bin cages are around 20-100 bucks or more especially the wire mesh and the power tools.

Most of the starter expenses are for the bin, the bedding, chew toys, sand, and the food. The hides, sand baths, and small custard/pudding bowls for food and water can come from your kitchen cabinets at no additional expense. Paper or plastic cups and bowls can be bought for not much at any grocery store..
That hamster "cage" is so poorly done, and they're acting like it's a children's toy, and hamsters are absolutely not a children's toy they're living animals!! UGH!!!
I've gotten so connected to my hamster (of corse) to the point where just seeing one of these cages makes my skin crawl. When i was little, i thought pet store workers were these big animal lovers, but it turns out all they care about is getting to the bag and not the well being of animals
The other day I went into Petco to buy my hamster a new bag of food. Everyone in there was getting hamster related items. The older people were getting all the correct items and didn’t buy a cage or hamster from there. However there was a girl and was looking at small cages. I had to leave and did not see which cage she chose but none were suitable for a hamster. They are definitely targeting children and it breaks my heart. I’m 13 and have had my hamster for 1 1/2 years. My friend got a hamster and when I asked how much she paid for the tiny cage she bought her hamster. She said $50! I have a huge bin cage for my hamster that only cost me $18. I told her and the next day she went to Home Depot to buy one. People really need to do research before buying ANY animal. Same! I'm 14 and my hamster lives in a rather large bin cage. I picked the biggest one that they had in Walmart which costed me $25 and I'm still not finished designing and making his home. I plan on buying him another bin cage and connecting the two to give him more space. Along with more toys of course. It really frustrates me when people buy such small cages for their hamsters and don't even do the proper researcher. Like even if the recommended size for a hamster cage was the size of those cages, I'd still buy him a huge one because I love my hamster and want the best for him.
I researched for hours on end before i got my rabbit!! My old hamsters were as gifts... Never give pets as gifts, unless u have done the research and make a specific list!!
Seeing all of these comments makes me so happy. These make me realize and reassure myself that some people are taking good care for their hamsters and giving hem the life they deserve. Personally, the first day I had a hamster I had a tiny tales cage, then the second day I immediately switched to a bin cage with 576 square inches of floor space. My hamster seems really happy, which makes me happy too ☺️
I used to have the tiny tales princess cage for my hamster. Then I started watching your videos and realized how small it was. I wanted a bigger cage but knew my mom would never allow me to get one. So me and my sister found a bin (which was way bigger than the tiny tales cage) and we set it up. But it still wasn't big enough. Then I remembered I had a aquarium and after 1 hour of searching I found it. Me and my sister set it up and now my hamster is happier than ever. My hamster is 3 and I want the best for her. I had my old hamster in that, and he died, I'm against this, I got a much much bigger one now. The detolf house. So yeah it's very cramped, ( my old hamster died in it, I think he didn't get enough exercise.)
When I saw the bottle of my cage (shamed that I bought the cage in the vid) I was like “HOW IN THE WORLD MY HAMSTER EVEN DRINK!?” He didn’t drank his water in 2 days! I’m scared and sad 😔

I know right! My friend just got a teddy bear hamster and bought one of those critter trail cages. I tried to tell her it was too small and even offered giving her one of my old cages that was 600 sq but she wouldn’t listen. 🙄
Not gonna lie,my first 4 hamsters lived in a crittertrail cage. The 4th one that is still alive to this day has been upgraded to a 120 Qt bin cage. I also have a longhaired male Syrian who recently got upgraded from another 120 qt bin to a 40 gallon breeder tank! All thanks to your videos I can now provide adequate care for my little babies! We all make mistakes, my fist hamster lived in a critter trail as well, but I eventually learned and changed that. Mistakes are fine to make as long as you learn from them and change them!
My first hamster lived in a critter trail cage and I changed that once I saw Victoria channel I changed that so my hamsters both live in 30 gallon tanks but today I’m buying a 40 gallon tank

I just upgraded to a 40 gallon aquarium. My hamster only had to live in his critter tail for 3 weeks. He's still a baby but he absolutely loves his new cage. I couldn't believe I actually put him in a critter tail after seeing the size of the new one. the critter tail is now his carrier cage! thank you watching your videos helped give my hamster a more fulfilling life.

My cousin has one of these and her mom won’t buy her another so I went to the store and bought her a aquarium cause our store doesn’t have bins and it’s in the mail she’s in Texas but she’s gonna get it soon
@@WlwHylas So true. The nearest Ikea location is over 120 miles away from my home. The nearest Walmart is slightly over 30 miles. My nearest Walmart stocked the 116 quart bin/29 gallons, but the nearest Home Depot also stocked the giant 200 quart bin/50 gallons... The smaller of the above is around the size of a large rectangular laundry basket, but the 200 quart There aren't as many Ikea locations as Walmart or Home Depot...
Sadly 4 years down the road and there's no change in the horrible supplies for hamsters 😢🐹 but what can you expect when the pet shop has no idea or care for the tiny creatures, I often see them housed together in groups!!! And no idea if it's a female or male or age!!! 😢

I always thought that the "hamster" cages were too small (even before i did research on them, i just thought that they probably need a bigger cage then what leopard geckos normally have as adults like 20 gallons, I know that is not a very good comparison because they are different animals but a lot of leopard geckos are not as active like a hamster would be so it would make sense that a hamster should have a much bigger tank/cage then that even if the hamster is smaller)

This makes me so mad I got the Ikea detolf cage and my hamster didn't even like staying in that so I dedicated my hole spare bedroom for her(don't worry I hamster proofed it first haha). I wish I saw this video before purchasing tiny tales for my robo hamster. This is my first time having a hamster and I didnt do too much research on hamster house so i was unprepared. Water bottle was leaking and the pipes didn't even fit right so I hated tiny tales and looked up RUclips for hamster house suggestions and that's how I found your channel. I just purchased one of the houses you suggested and decided to return tiny tales. Thankfully my robo hamster only needed to live in tiny tales for 5 days. New cage is coming tomorrow!

The thing is, people are tricked into buying the princess castle ones or the rocket ones because they think they look cool, but they aren’t at all what you use for hamsters. They are ok to let your hamster play in, but they should have a bigger living space.
Yep. But still even as a playcage or if you connect it to a (big) main cage it is still expensive and crappy quality. Hard to assemble and probably a headache to clean. Can't even use some of these as travel cage either, if the clips doesn't work well the bottom will fall off
You can do a bin set up. Get a giant tote box, cut out the middle of the top, add a metal grid over the hole, voila! Hamster cage for less than $5. Assuming you have all of the proper necessities, you can just move them from the Tiny Horrors cage to the tote.
@@juliomorales5084 she *is* chill. One can learn to take part time jobs, save up their allowance money etc... then find on their house or buy a storage bin (it's cheap). That can do well as hamster cage. It doesn't have to be petstore cages, those are expensive.
I am appalled, how do people make such good money off of unresearched minds that put together a box with entertaining stuff working on it, I am so down to get ride of these forever, it is so frustrating to see people that treat pets like they are ornaments
I literally only bought this as a play cage for when I'm cleaning out my hamster's main bin cage and doing a deep sterilization on all her toys. This is NOT good for a hamster to live their life in. It's just cruel.
You would most likely be better off with a Sterilite 38 quart bin that is nearly the size of this tiny toy cage. One can add a lot more bedding into a bin. Price around $8, plus steel mesh and zip ties which would cost you nothing if you use the leftovers from the big bin...
All they care about is the money. :-( My syrian is in a 528 square inch cage and gets stressed sometimes. I cant imagine putting him in something so small!
I use my OLD critter trails cage as transport cage to tha vet or other places. Shes a LH female syrian. She panics when i put her in there. Good thing my vet is just 8 blocks away! She's only had to go 1 time thank god! Anywayb4 she freaked out in there. She was happier when i put her in tha cardboard travel box lol!

Ya might want to point out that the minimum recommended floorspace in the UK and most of Europe is 650 square inch. 450 over here is still considered too small, essentially for Syrian hamsters. Regardless your point still stands and those "cages" are just outright evil for any type of rodent. Petition signed. I have made my hamster a ~1136 square inch cage and I still think that this is too small for him so I am planning on doubling that. But that does mean completely rebuilding every part of it.....it's a complex cage and not a two minute job.

I don't think little kids should have animals. Most kids don't know how to care for them properly. Their parents buy the animal for their birthday and put it in a small cage and thats it.
I think it’s okay for children have pets if the parents are in charge and realize they need to properly teach them how to care for them and that the child may eventually get bored and the animal will be their responsibility to continue to care for. But most parents aren’t like that which is sad :(

Buy the largest bin in stock at the store at least 105 quart or larger. Bigger is better. Even the giant 200 quart bin isn't much larger than a large rectangular laundry basket. These very tiny toy cages are about the size of a shoe box...
I bought the same cage for my dwarf hamster, and he never chews or climbs the bars at all, and he can burrow perfectly fine. He also loves to climb up the tubes and the waterbottle situation is fine because he just lies down when he drinks from his waterbottle. Now, this is not being hateful towards you Victoria, I love your videos and you help me so much, but I just wanted to say, that different hamsters have different needs, and some hamsters can live in these cages, as a regular hamster cage will take up half the living room, as I live in New York City.
He needs space for him. He needs nesting material and forage. “Different hamsters, different needs” no your literally abusing it. “He can burrow” Where, 3 inches? Get research.

When I went to get a tank for my hamster (and all the other stuff including the hamster, shamed I BOUGHT my hamster) they tried to sell me one of the actual cages, I wisely refused. I ACTUALLY TOLD THEM THAT THOSE CAGES AREN’T SUITABLE BUT WHY WOULD THEY LISTEN TO A KID?!?!! (I’m salty right here)

A petsmart recently opened in my town, I went in there and the first thing I saw was the tiny tales. They have this thing where an employee chooses what they think is the best stuff for a cage. They had cedar shavings and tiny tales as their recommended. It hurts seeing parents buying them just because they look cute and want to keep their kid distracted. As adults, they should know that no living animal should be put in these dollhouses.

Just so you're aware when I worked in retail the employee recommended displays were not selected by employees they are made by corporate and an employee name is slapped on it

I don’t own any hamsters, nor do I plan to own one, but lots of my friends or people I know do. It really makes me sad because one of my closest friends has that exact cage, another one of my closest friends had a hamster In a tiny tales cage that died, and somebody who I know has a hamster that is monkey barring. I am going to try and tell them, but the one who’s hamster died knows the correct care now.

As a 13 year old with 4 hamsters, this makes me so sad. Each of my hamster ( even the dwarfs, they are not different than any other hamster ) live in a 55 gallon glass tank. There are so many problems with this cage, and i find it disgusting that pet smart markets cages like that 😕 hamsters need large cages!

Actually no bin cages are not cheap most of the time. 20 dollar bin cages are less than 450 sq inches so usually the proper sized bin cages are around 20-100 bucks or more especially the wire mesh and the power tools.

I've gotten so connected to my hamster (of corse) to the point where just seeing one of these cages makes my skin crawl. When i was little, i thought pet store workers were these big animal lovers, but it turns out all they care about is getting to the bag and not the well being of animals

The other day I went into Petco to buy my hamster a new bag of food. Everyone in there was getting hamster related items. The older people were getting all the correct items and didn’t buy a cage or hamster from there. However there was a girl and was looking at small cages. I had to leave and did not see which cage she chose but none were suitable for a hamster. They are definitely targeting children and it breaks my heart. I’m 13 and have had my hamster for 1 1/2 years. My friend got a hamster and when I asked how much she paid for the tiny cage she bought her hamster. She said $50! I have a huge bin cage for my hamster that only cost me $18. I told her and the next day she went to Home Depot to buy one. People really need to do research before buying ANY animal. Same! I'm 14 and my hamster lives in a rather large bin cage. I picked the biggest one that they had in Walmart which costed me $25 and I'm still not finished designing and making his home. I plan on buying him another bin cage and connecting the two to give him more space. Along with more toys of course. It really frustrates me when people buy such small cages for their hamsters and don't even do the proper researcher. Like even if the recommended size for a hamster cage was the size of those cages, I'd still buy him a huge one because I love my hamster and want the best for him.

Seeing all of these comments makes me so happy. These make me realize and reassure myself that some people are taking good care for their hamsters and giving hem the life they deserve. Personally, the first day I had a hamster I had a tiny tales cage, then the second day I immediately switched to a bin cage with 576 square inches of floor space. My hamster seems really happy, which makes me happy too ☺️

I used to have the tiny tales princess cage for my hamster. Then I started watching your videos and realized how small it was. I wanted a bigger cage but knew my mom would never allow me to get one. So me and my sister found a bin (which was way bigger than the tiny tales cage) and we set it up. But it still wasn't big enough. Then I remembered I had a aquarium and after 1 hour of searching I found it. Me and my sister set it up and now my hamster is happier than ever. My hamster is 3 and I want the best for her. Thank you so much for helping my hamster.

Not gonna lie,my first 4 hamsters lived in a crittertrail cage. The 4th one that is still alive to this day has been upgraded to a 120 Qt bin cage. I also have a longhaired male Syrian who recently got upgraded from another 120 qt bin to a 40 gallon breeder tank! All thanks to your videos I can now provide adequate care for my little babies! Thanks for the help!
We all make mistakes, my fist hamster lived in a critter trail as well, but I eventually learned and changed that. Mistakes are fine to make as long as you learn from them and change them!

I just upgraded to a 40 gallon aquarium. My hamster only had to live in his critter tail for 3 weeks. He's still a baby but he absolutely loves his new cage. I couldn't believe I actually put him in a critter tail after seeing the size of the new one. the critter tail is now his carrier cage! thank you watching your videos helped give my hamster a more fulfilling life.

I always thought that the "hamster" cages were too small (even before i did research on them, i just thought that they probably need a bigger cage then what leopard geckos normally have as adults like 20 gallons, I know that is not a very good comparison because they are different animals but a lot of leopard geckos are not as active like a hamster would be so it would make sense that a hamster should have a much bigger tank/cage then that even if the hamster is smaller)

This makes me so mad I got the Ikea detolf cage and my hamster didn't even like staying in that so I dedicated my hole spare bedroom for her(don't worry I hamster proofed it first haha). I wish I saw this video before purchasing tiny tales for my robo hamster. This is my first time having a hamster and I didnt do too much research on hamster house so i was unprepared. Water bottle was leaking and the pipes didn't even fit right so I hated tiny tales and looked up RUclips for hamster house suggestions and that's how I found your channel. I just purchased one of the houses you suggested and decided to return tiny tales. Thankfully my robo hamster only needed to live in tiny tales for 5 days. New cage is coming tomorrow!

The thing is, people are tricked into buying the princess castle ones or the rocket ones because they think they look cool, but they aren’t at all what you use for hamsters. They are ok to let your hamster play in, but they should have a bigger living space.
Yep. But still even as a playcage or if you connect it to a (big) main cage it is still expensive and crappy quality. Hard to assemble and probably a headache to clean. Can't even use some of these as travel cage either, if the clips doesn't work well the bottom will fall off

You can do a bin set up. Get a giant tote box, cut out the middle of the top, add a metal grid over the hole, voila! Hamster cage for less than $5. Assuming you have all of the proper necessities, you can just move them from the Tiny Horrors cage to the tote.

I literally only bought this as a play cage for when I'm cleaning out my hamster's main bin cage and doing a deep sterilization on all her toys. This is NOT good for a hamster to live their life in. It's just cruel.
You would most likely be better off with a Sterilite 38 quart bin that is nearly the size of this tiny toy cage. One can add a lot more bedding into a bin. Price around $8, plus steel mesh and zip ties which would cost you nothing if you use the leftovers from the big bin...

I use my OLD critter trails cage as transport cage to tha vet or other places. Shes a LH female syrian. She panics when i put her in there. Good thing my vet is just 8 blocks away! Reptitan i have a russian dwarf hamsters and when i had a cage like these for a week he kept have seizures i thought he was going to die but then after he wasn’t well but he doing way better. now that it’s out of the house

Peppa Pig Yes, please do loads of research!! Lots of people make the mistake of not doing any and it impacts the hamsters life a lot. Make sure your cage is over 450square inches (:

Ya might want to point out that the minimum recommended floorspace in the UK and most of Europe is 650 square inch. 450 over here is still considered too small, essentially for Syrian hamsters. Regardless your point still stands and those "cages" are just outright evil for any type of rodent. Petition signed.
I have made my hamster a ~1136 square inch cage and I still think that this is too small for him so I am planning on doubling that. But that does mean completely rebuilding every part of it.....it's a complex cage and not a two minute job.

Larger is always better, but most children do NOT have space in their bedrooms for a cage of 1000 square inches, much less 2000 square inches...

I don't think little kids should have animals. Most kids don't know how to care for them properly. Their parents buy the animal for their birthday and put it in a small cage and thats it.
I think it’s okay for children have pets if the parents are in charge and realize they need to properly teach them how to care for them and that the child may eventually get bored and the animal will be their responsibility to continue to care for. But most parents aren’t like that which is sad :(

Buy the largest bin in stock at the store at least 105 quart or larger. Bigger is better. Even the giant 200 quart bin isn't much larger than a large rectangular laundry basket. These very tiny toy cages are about the size of a shoe box...
I bought the same cage for my dwarf hamster, and he never chews or climbs the bars at all, and he can burrow perfectly fine. He also loves to climb up the tubes and the waterbottle situation is fine because he just lies down when he drinks from his waterbottle. Now, this is not being hateful towards you Victoria, I love your videos and you help me so much, but I just wanted to say, that different hamsters have different needs, and some hamsters can live in these cages, as a regular hamster cage will take up half the living room, as I live in New York City.
He needs space for him. He needs nesting material and forage. “Different hamsters, different needs” no your literally abusing it. “He can burrow” Where, 3 inches? Get research.
when i was a kid i got a hamster and my dad told me that one of the smallest cages in the store was fine... i feel so bad for having hamsters in that cage
I bet children who get hamster don’t take care of them and scare them. Sure, why not get a family dog or cat but a hamster?? My parents didn’t let me till 11. This is my second hamster. Thank you for showing how awful these are! 😊♥️
Siena N I have been having hamsters since I was 6, and my parents wrongly educated me cuz she was a "VET" who knew best. All my past hamsters have had very bad lives in very bad cages. Luckily I now know better and am making a difference for every future hamster my family will get

I don’t think cages are the best enclosures either use large storage boxes or reptile enclosures because they don’t have anywhere to get stuck
