This is exactly what I have been looking for. A single clone system that supports all my flash carts. The accuracy is honestly good enough for me. Thanks for doing all those tests. I'm about to order the black one
Not sure what some ultra rich kids had when growing up. Looks and sounds every bit as good as I remember. In my family we were using crappy CRT TVs and only the crummy speaker it had, so this is at the very least just as good if not slightly better in both rendering and sound. You will not get perfect audio or video from this tech, you thought it was perfect back then but it wasn't. Everything was great to a kid back then.
As someone who owns the original systems, I actually wouldn't be opposed to picking this up mainly for the convenience of having all three systems available at once and to lessen the wear-and-tear on the original hardware. Yeah, it's not perfect like you said, but it's another option to experience GEN/NES/SNES carts on modern setup and from what I've seen in your review, I think it does just well enough at the $85 price point.

DEKUtheKID I don’t completely understand it. It’s very technical. Something about the pulse waves being reversed. You can watch videos on RUclips about it or google it. I have, been awhile. The OG Retron 3 sounded the same. I bought a GeneratioNex clone which had this issue. Most of them do unfortunately. From what I read, this happened way back in the 80s with the earliest system-in-a-Chip designs. They made it incorrectly and it’s simply been copied since. I don’t know if that’s true but you can hear it regardless. The Retro Trio (the Genesis controller version only) is one of the few that doesn’t have this issue. The RES and Retro Duo supposedly don’t either but I can’t confirm as I’ve never owned them. Well, I just got a Retro Duo but haven’t opened it yet. UPDATE: Opened my Retro Duo and can confirm that it does not have RDS. Instead it has over amplified sound that causes it to be very scratchy and too loud. I researched this and it is said to be an easy simple resistor and solder fix. I may try to do that. The RES is said to have this same over amplified sound issue. There is alway some caveat with these clones by Retrobit and Hyperkin and others. From what I've researched, atleast Retrobit's have an easy fix.

I've found their controllers are pretty top-notch, but their NES and SNES color palettes and sound are lacking (even the HDMI cable they made for the SNES is off, from reviews I've seen). I loved the Retro-Bit Super Retro Trio, but the damn thing didn't have an aspect ratio switch, so I had to run it through a FrameMeister to get the proper 4:3 ratio. Also the SNES port burned out somehow because of the Reto-Bit GBA adapter (I've since acquired a Japanese GameCube with GB Player with disk (the Cube and the Player with disk was cheaper than trying to track down just the US version of the disk), so I'm good on the GBA front now. All in all I'd say the best thing is original hardware on a CRT if you have the space for a CRT (I wish I did. I got a CRT in the garage that needs its coax fixed, but I've got no place to put it). What’s the difference between the retron 3 HD and the Retron 5 HD? Are they both “new” and current releases or is one old? Is the only difference that one has the GBA port? I’m confused by their lineup
Honestly, I plan on buying a console like this. I know it's not perfect and I don't really care about it being perfect... I just want to be able to play my cartridge games on stream without putting a big budget in a high-end AV to HDMI converter or machines like the SuperNT...
Does the SNES side still have that problem where the pixels blur together when everything is in motion, like on the Supa Retron HD? The SNES video seems darker too. They should have fixed these issues when releasing this: NES color palette/sound, SNES motion blur, Genesis SMS glitchy NTSC. At least the NES side works with N8 and the SNES side doesn't have that Hyperkin splash-screen like the original stand-alone consoles.
Frito pretty sure nes would just use b and a buttons on the controller. I don’t think the y and x will do anything. So the mapping will probably be exact.
@@Bo_Knows_Tecmo i am one of those who prefers to use Y as B, and B as A if i am playing NES games with an SNES controller. so that's why i was asking about it.
Dude you cant use the snes controller for nes games. Surprised he didn’t mention this in the video. Technically if you don’t own your own NES controller you can’t even play any games right out of the box!!! And the cadet controller by Hyperkin doesn’t even work. Only an original controller.
Mike7599 are you serious? I figured the included controller would work for both nes and snes. I saw it had a specific controller for genesis. That sucks. Guess they assume you would have an old nes controller. Even the hyperkin nes controller won’t work? For that price they should include it in the box.
I always wonder what about these SOAC clones is so off from the original hardware, specifically because they are attempting a 1:1 clone of the original hardware. If it's being done accurately, I'd expect something closer to a FPGA implementation (just burned onto a chip rather than in flashable gates). But yeah, for a system this cheap it's easy to not expect much. Looking at systems just like this a few years ago is what got me back into retro gaming, but also drove me towards original hardware because the performance was so inferior.
Love your chnl. Thanks for sharing. Love the console, seems good if u have kids for them to play or having a spare. Bummer the flash carts dont work. Have you tried any of the multi cart Chinese clone that have over 100 roms version ?. Thanks
I just got a Sony Trinitron for free and it made my retron 5 mostly obsolete lol. I had a ton of compatibility issues. Not gonna lie though. The translucent red aesthetic is hitting me hard hahahhahha
Wow, looks like a nice console. I will buy one. It looks better than the original retron 3. Wonder if Castlevania 3 works on it. I like your reviews. I am a retro gamer as well.
I'd consider getting one of these so I can keep the original hardware at home. It is pretty convenient considering it plays the three most popular formats and is HD as well
I would much rather have those two controllers included rather than replacing one with an NES controller. Mainly because if I want to play a two player SNES or Genesis game, I wouldn't be able to do it straight out of the box only because the NES controller doesn't have enough buttons. Of course you can buy (and I already have) another controller, but thats not my point 😊

I love the new hd stuff but I wish it had the big dial in the middle like the original retron 3
Will the Mega SD cart work on the Hyperkin Retron 3 hd console?
What controller do you use for the NES port
I've got one like the gray one it quit working in the front for the super NES but the back that works the 64 still works good what can I do to fix the front to get it back to working like I want it's just been them one thing after another with it I don't know if I should give it away or keep it I'm thinking about giving it away really but I love the unit I just wished it hadn't messed up with me you have a great day friend blessings
I have a question, is this system a soc or emulation based? Thanks
What’s the difference between the retron 3 HD and the Retron 5 HD? Are they both “new” and current releases or is one old? Is the only difference that one has the GBA port? I’m confused by their lineup
Great video!!
What I enjoy doing is putting Rad Racer 2 in clone consoles and see if they sound like they are frying.
Im educated :) Thanks for sharing
Honestly, I plan on buying a console like this. I know it's not perfect and I don't really care about it being perfect...
I just want to be able to play my cartridge games on stream without putting a big budget in a high-end AV to HDMI converter or machines like the SuperNT...
New to the channel awesome content. Does this system play old games?? Thank you for the channel??
is there a reason they don't seem to believe in eject buttons?
So this thing plays the games directly it doesn't copy them on an emulator or anything
It's pretty clear they aren't making the SOC itself, probably don't have any electronics r&d whatsoever
I would like to buy that clear red SNES controller separately
I'm at work and couldn't watch the whole video, but for the NES games which buttons are used? Is it Y=B and B=A, or B=B and A=A?
Frito pretty sure nes would just use b and a buttons on the controller. I don’t think the y and x will do anything. So the mapping will probably be exact.
@@Bo_Knows_Tecmo i am one of those who prefers to use Y as B, and B as A if i am playing NES games with an SNES controller. so that's why i was asking about it.
Frito yeah I’m with you on that with a 4 button snes setup I like y as the run button and b as the jump button
Do you buy these and keep them after review or do you sell them?
Bro I have the original SNES and this console and they work identically. In fact I’d argue the sound is better on the Retron
any possibility of Connecting this Retron3 console to a small laptop?
how hot is the sound on the snes/genesis? I love my super retro trio plus HD but the sound is distorted really bad with a lot of games.
If you mod this and put a MISTer inside, or maybe even a Raspberry Pi and make it read the cartridges. That would be something...
How did you play the Mario brother because my console not working
You'll never need an NES or GENESIS control pad if you have a SNES control pad. Should have just came with a pair of SNES controllers.
8bitdo makes a wireless genesis controller with a receiver that plugs into a classic genesis. It should in theory work. Right?
If your using an old crt tv would light gun games work with this?
I always wonder what about these SOAC clones is so off from the original hardware, specifically because they are attempting a 1:1 clone of the original hardware. If it's being done accurately, I'd expect something closer to a FPGA implementation (just burned onto a chip rather than in flashable gates). But yeah, for a system this cheap it's easy to not expect much. Looking at systems just like this a few years ago is what got me back into retro gaming, but also drove me towards original hardware because the performance was so inferior.
It's not done accurately. It's done cheaply.
Supposedly they copy the same shitty ones from decades ago. Cheap Tawainese knock-offs and the like.
Love your chnl. Thanks for sharing. Love the console, seems good if u have kids for them to play or having a spare. Bummer the flash carts dont work. Have you tried any of the multi cart Chinese clone that have over 100 roms version ?. Thanks
Is that product any good because there retron 5 had issues?
What isn't good about what retro bit made?
Hi! Does the save state function works for Everdrive N8 on retron 3 hd?
Do the wireless controllers work on this? Did u try?
I just got a Sony Trinitron for free and it made my retron 5 mostly obsolete lol. I had a ton of compatibility issues. Not gonna lie though. The translucent red aesthetic is hitting me hard hahahhahha
@@SumDumGy haha yeah i hear ya but its good for japanese jrpgs with translation patches. Only reason i keept it. Oh and i dont have any famicoms
Do 32x games work too?! I just bought one of these. Be cool to play 32x as well
