Famidaily - Episode 0104 - Baltron (バルトロン)

Another shoot-'em-up, but this one borrows from something other than Xevious. It's Defender and Scramble for Baltron!
Famidaily is my attempt to catalog all of the commercially released Famicom games.

What's up with the idea with Space Years in old Famicom games? I guess it's inspired by Gundam's Universal Century, but all it reminds me is of the space jokes in DBZ Abridged. You know, like Space Australia and all that.

I've heard that alternative calendars like Universal Century might be inspired by how officially, Japan starts a new calendar with every new emperor. I thought it might have been a way to keep from pinning the setting to an exact real-world date as time marches on, but then I think of how much Japanese sci-fi still had such drastic developments to the world placed a laughably short amount of time into the current calendar...

Shoei System? As in the bike people Shoei?

Not this time. The helmet Shoei spells their name in Japanese differently. The game Shoei has ties with Toei which is likely where the name comes from.
