I've started a BMW E84 (x1 xDrive20d) from -36 degrees of celsius without any heater and it started on first go just like the 320d E90 LCI in this video, except the noise was worse. Also had to hold down the clutch for a good while and wait for the transmission to warm up to avoid it stalling.

The megane 3 diesel sounds like a locomotive!!!! I do cold starts in 2/3 time's,its good for your starter and engine. BTW , i drive a diesel to,from 1999
These puffing 'locomotive' sounds might be a sign of failure, like gases escaping combustion chambers through faulty fuel injector gaskets.
The dCi is very shit engine.

luckily I park up a hill and have a manual car. If it's really stubborn, Injust can coast down the hill in 2nd. If it doesn't start that way, then we shouldn't drive at that weather
Wow do people look after their cars or not so many struggling where my 17 year old car fired up no problem in -36C only the power steering pump makes noise until warmed up.

Renault Diesels are some engines that I'd never buy....Only getting problems. Not that every Renault Diesel engine doesn't start cold. There's no problem. My neighbor had a Renault and only got problems with it.
Renaults are ugly cheap french crap.

If you live somewhere that gets colder than -40 why do you have a diesel car? If its not a diesel then there should be no issues starting.
well as u can see here and in my other compilation gassers can struggle too. and also, notice how the nissan 2.0d starts no problem... that engine is awesome, love the merc diesels and the old fiat 1.7d too;) gonna convert one of those to wvo in the future^^
Diesel cars are not for those temperatures, petrol cars are better in almost everything
antonio borovec dunno about that man, germans had petrol tanks in ww2, did not work out for them.
Gas engines struggle too. I have an ‘85 f250 diesel that has no problem starting in -20C environment.
There are other advantages to diesel that could outweigh the fact that they're harder to start at cold extremes.
(This coming from a temperate gasoline driver)
