Can't imagine sending my hunting companion of 10 years somewhere else but to each their own.
He deserves the golden years on your couch with 4 feet in the air lol enjoying popcorn with miss kay
the hardest part of retiring an old hunting dog is the look on his face when you go hunting the next time and you dont load him up to go!
Oh man. I feel you on that. My dad had to sneak out growing up when our Lab girl’s knees were bad because it was so hard for him to see her let down. She knew the routine, the smells, the gear, his hunting boots, etc
She was so loyal to him hunting and to our family in general.
The bond between man (or woman) and dog is so beautiful and pure.
I wish more people were like labs sometimes 🤣
I can't take my Dachshunds squirrel & rabbit hunting b/c one of them only runs to hear the wind rushing by her ears & won't come back when called.
I'm not giving them away but I'm going to get GPS tracking collars so I'd have a chance to locate her when she takes off.
I want to share one of my favorite testimonies. Long story short, in 2011 I was blown up 3 times in Sangin, Afghanistan while conducting Route clearance (finding and clearing roads of bombs and IEDs). I operated a one manned vehicle called a Husky. This vehicle was equipped with ground penetrating radar and metal detector, as well as a ‘V’ shapes haul to help cut through bombs that explode underneath me. Each time I was blown up I was put in a gun truck that followed behind me. Within our gun trucks we had dog handlers and all of our bomb dogs just happened to be black Labradors. So to me, especially after being blown up, those dogs were nice to have around. They were calm and I love dogs. Fast forward to my first semester of college after I got out of the Marines in 2014 I was rolling around in my bed at night in pain. I was dealing with Post Combat Stress and it wasn’t going away. One night while in pain I reached out to God full heartedly and asked Him for something specific. I asked God to bring into my life a one month old pure black lab, my heart spoke more than my words (loving dog, doesn’t bark, calm, cuddler, etc). The next two weeks after that prayer I called dog breeders and was getting denied left and right, so I gave up looking. But one morning I was on my way to work and was stopped at a stoplight when inspiration hit me to look up a dog pound. I agreed, pulled up google maps on my phone and made a detour to the closest dog pound to my current location. Upon arrival, I opened the door to the dog pound and the first dog I see is a one month old pure black lab on the floor. My mind was blown. His name is Marley, I’ve had him for 6 years now and he is everything my heart cried out to God for. I thank Jesus Christ everyday for Marley and since that day God has blessed me with an amazing wife and healthy baby girl. God bless y’all. Jesus Christ is King of Kings 👑
Bless you sir for giving up so much of your life to defend our great country. You never know when the Most High
will bless you with something you really need to make your life just a bit better.
Shalom to you and your family.
Regards, Doug
God bless you ❤️🙏
❤️❤️❤️
God bless you & thank you my friend.
God bless u air action ❤
I could never give away one of my dogs NEVER
Amen to that brother, man's best friend never outlives his usefulness
I'm sure he went to live with a close friend of the family. Don't think Phil would send him somewhere that he wouldn't be happy. Phil's gonna keep on huntin, with a younger dog. With everything else considered for the life of Phil Robertson,he probably won't have enough time for blue.
me neither. but Blue was only a hunting dog lived in a Kennel locked up instead of being free and part of the family. My dog of 14 years was with me 24 7 him and I communicated without saying a word at times.he knew over 20 words and many more commands
You could plainly see who that dog was infatuated with in the video, the dog will be happy and loved.
I’ll keep my beagle till one of us meets the maker.
It's a tough call to give a family member to another to care for, my heart goes out to you phil. A good dog is a blessing from God to be sure....
Oh I could never let him go. Im crying just watching.
Awe today was the day. God bless his new venture to Colorado. Now I'm crying.
Same🙋🏻♀️😢😞
Phil is going to miss him
The dog just retired, he did not get put down.
@@bethking1446 hmmmm duh thanks captain obvious
@@dabzprincess92 oh you are just do kind hearted. Bless your heart!!!!
Some comments think Blue was put to sleep. No.. He's retried.
Blue moved to Colorado with Burly
@@brucewatkinson9592 exactly!
My heart was sinking when I clicked until I saw him running around lol
My current lab has pedigree from 'Upon the Wings of an Answered Prayer' aka Ammo, the top derby dog in AKC history. Not sure how I lucked out like that but I did.
And she has been, BY FAR, the best Lab I've ever owned. By miles! Love my dog! She's incredible! I just randomly bought an, AKC Lab locally and when I got her pedigree, I recognized a lot of the names from "Ammo's" pedigree.
Her name is Dixie. She whines just like Phil's talkin about because she's so driven. So focused.

“It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are." ~Unknown~
Amen to that.
Amen
I love it “we duck hunting not field trials” less trips the better.
Yep
Absolutely!!
Blue is just excited to please. What a beautiful dog. After all that service well done, I hope the old boy has a good retirement, with plenty of loving.
What a blessing from God to have such a dog.
I am a Veterinary Technician and I took excellent care of my boyfriend's duck dog. She literally had 125 toys and knew which one was which. She knew football from duck. She would retrieve my newspaper from the driveway, a log from the wood pile. These seemingly silly labradores can be unbelievable!
Thank you for your service Blue. I hope you enjoy your retirement, you sure earned it.
Heroes are never forgotten butt Legends never die God is good
Amen to that,✝️
My wife & I rescued a 3 year old Lab last August from a ranch,
She was a good retriever but they couldn’t take the whine, just like Blue.
She is so sweet & learning to live in house.
Have not heard the whine yet!
Good luck Blue!
God bless from N Idaho
He's Gorgeous..Thank You for Sharing
God Bless you and your Family
Treasure the old age years, they're so precious. My baby went home to Jesus on Monday. He was 13 & the best dog ever. I hope you have many more years with blue
❤️❤️
He gave the dog away.
From the Great Northwest public Duck Blind very very sorry for your loss from the Great Northwest God bless
Can you point me to chapter and verse that says your dog went to heaven? Or maybe some church history indicating that Christians at any time or any place actually believed this?
There are some who stick only to the legality of the word and there are some who feel the Love of the Lord encompasses not only mankind but all of His Creation because He saw it was good.
Letting that dog go would be something i could have never done. Happy retirement old boy!!
He looks like my dog Maxx who retrieves and has E grade manners. Haha got a tear in my eye. Thx Phil for sharing God Bless you and your family.
Well a Happy Retirement to Blue!!!! I'd say it's well earned!!! Really glad I ran across this video tonight , because we sure have missed you and all the family Phil !!! Sure do miss y'all being on tv , there's just nothing godly and wholesome on the tube ever since y'all went off 😪 God bless you and the entire Robertson clan 🙏
When he was driving away with blue I got a little but choked up.glad blue will still be alive and enjoying Colorado
He's a beautiful dog! It breaks my heart to see my dog getting old, but we're all passing through.
If I see him up here I will make sure he's all good ( I live in Colorado) God bless
Man's best friend for a reason!!! God bless and take care. Happy retirement Blue.
He’s definitely a magnificent specimen
Enjoy your retirement Blue
Gettin’ butt smacks already!
Good luck Blue!
❤️🙏🏻❤️
What a dog Old Blue was!💟 Enjoy retirement Ole Boy💗
I just love Phil. Plain talk is easy understood!!! I think Phil Kay and the family are fine people!!!
God Bless Your Sweet Family!! ♥️♥️♥️
4:10 Phil admits the dog is high strung and needs an outlet for energy. It’s Phil’s dog to do with as he pleases. A family friend is perfect.
Burrough, the Family speaks so highly of you. I think you're a lucky Man to get Blue!
The more people I meet the more I LOVE my dog
He’s ADORABLE!!! Love his sweet eyes ❤️
Love ya ole blue bigger and better ducks ahead
Dog are better than people!! I love dogs 😊✌❤
Bird dog or stock dog that can count past one is indeed rare. A true gem
My black lab Biscuit would count at least to six. He was a good boy miss him.
I'm learning to be not as soft and to overcome and endure to the end. It is hard to let go and I have a hunch that Phil must save some of his tears for the still of the night.
Blue looks SO much like me Molly. Molly is high strung and everyone being automatically her friend, her excitement has proven to overwhelming and unable to control herself. Always wanting to play and love.
Poor Blue:( he's going to miss you Phil
Happy retirement Blue.
Thank you Mr. Robinson for all your wisdom and for sharing the simple life with all those city folks. God bless you and your family. Happy happy happy hunting
Great tribute to a great dog.
I'm sorry to hear the news of your fur kid!! Its never easy to lose a loved and treasured companion.
May God give you a peace that passes all understand. ❤
He didn't die.
My lab was my child for 10 years still miss him every day
Beautiful dog ❤GLORY TO GOD FOR HIS CREATION ❤😊
Outstanding creature. He was extraordinary at his job an what he was made for !! Go forth and enjoy yourself Blue !!
They're the best dogs in the world. I had a yellow lab named Jack. He was good at everything but sharing his toys with other dogs. He was smart and intuitive, a true gift from God.
We just lost our retriever today unexpectedly. I always felt like dogs were God's gift to mankind. An extra companion to show us love. Well, a local breeder just fell in our lap 6 hours after Posi died. Something to consider for sure.
It’s beautiful to see a Retriever doing what retrievers were bred to do. Blue will be very happy...
Blue is amazing I love watching him so talented & smart, what a hard worker. He loves what he does. I hope he enjoys his retirement he so deserves, as long as he's happy.
He's going to miss you Phil it's going to hurt
How in the world do you give away your hunting partner of 10 years...EDIT: after seeing all the replies saying it’s a true hunting dog not a pet. ask Tony Vandermore who’s dog retrieved over 25 THOUSAND birds if he got rid of his “true hunting dog” once it retired. No, it’s like your family. Now it’s time u take care of them once they’re old.
I respect Phil's decision to give Blue away, but I will never understand it...No loyalty at all...
Yeah no way in hell I could give up my partner of 10 years. I don't care, I'd do anything for my dogs.
Not his partner. It's his retriever. That's how
If he kept every hunting dog he’s had not to mention the house dogs miss Kay probably has then they’d have like 10 dogs probably. It’s better to give it to someone who will take it for walks instead of keeping it chained up and not hunting.
As a man of Christ he knows the difference between an animal, a human and Christ. Many animal owners practically worship there animals to the point of idolatry and love them more than human beings.
Love you Phil. You &your sons have been changing my life.
"To Everything there is a Season",,Thank God for them 10 years and the Gray Whisker's too. stay safe👍🏼🇺🇸
My heart goes out to you sir we lost our boy a few months ago old age and hips he wasn't a dog he was like a son better than most people I'm so sorry
CAN YOU DOO THIS GARAGE TOUR PLEASE IT IS AWESOME 😮
I don't understand why you got rid of Blue? He is retired but he should still be loved. You were his family.
I kind of felt the same way...
Rewatch 6:17 - 6:45. He's not a house or yard dog for Mr Robertson. He's letting him go to a more appropriate place (Burley s house) for rest and relaxation. (Better than staying in a pen or on a rope in my opinion.)
Blue will adapt and be fine within a week or so.
People don’t always consider dogs part of the family. That’s just the way it is sometimes. You should be glad he’s going somewhere where he will be.
No , he has no use for him . If he truly loved that dog he would never let him go.
@@mottom2033 Exactly what I said in a comment here. He's not an old rug, to just toss aside, he's a living, breathing creature who has feelings and attachments to the people he's with. No dog should be left in a kennel always or on a rope/chain, but WITH their people.
The things some people do to animals, (or people) is horrible. Should be done to them so they can see how it feels.
I just saw another young cow stuck in one of those tiny fenced 'doghouse' things. And this cow was waaay bigger than any I've seen in those awful things.
Poor thing TRIED turning, barely could, put head down TRYING to get in it, couldn't even come close, I don't care, it's just wrong.
Like eating meat...FINE, but could it just be done HUMANELY🙏💙.
Seems some don't know the meaning of that or kindness, compassion.. look what many do to other humans even...comes from Evil.
May God Bless..
He's like a child I'm sure God bless
He is so sweet.... I have lost so many of my babies and it never gets easier! I just remember God places so many for us too keep loving 🙏
Blue is an amazing dog, around 8000 ducks retrieved! Outstanding! Blue or any dog is more loyal & trustworthy then any leftwinger! Enjoy your retirement!🤣🐕 🦆
Your heart is gold Phill he deserves it
Aww good boi Blue! Hope you enjoy life out in Colorado with Burly!
I’ve been a horse trainer for 50 years. What I’ve found is there are GREAT performers in the animal world and every one was not perfect, they all had their quirks man made or natural that you just put up with cause they were that good!! Blessings to the darn good dog in his retirement.❤️
He is like our old Lab, Bettis, was.....anxiety laiden, anxious, rambunctious and a barker. I miss that old fella 💔
Beautiful dog.. I love them labradors.. such versatile dogs...
Love the honesty of Phil😄👍🏾
Good job blue.
Enjoy your retirement Blue. Well deserved.
I’ll sure miss ole Blue tales but it’s obvious Blue loves Berl and Berl loves Blue . I’m thinkin’ ole Blue may do a little huntin’ in Colorado 😂. Glad he’s going to a lovin’ home.
Whining like mine too just means they love it as much as their owners. Great dogs labs are for a waterfowler and family man. God bless yall
He looks just like my black lab Baron who’s been gone almost 30 years, prematurely gray at about 6. That boy had a puppy spirit until his last days.
It's a beautiful thing a man and his friend I guaranty there are more emotions right than the TV world will ever see Hes earned a place in the Duck Hunting Hall of Fame Rest easy ole boy🙏🙏
Aw , I would have kept him ! I had a white Lab and a black one , sister and brother . My black looked just like blue , his name was Thunder . Those two were the smartest dogs I ever had. He lived 14 yrs she lived 16 .Hope Blue is happy at his new home !
Should've kicked Jase & Stone out and kept Blue, Lol jk jk.... He melts my heart because I also have a 13 yr old Black Lab who looks identical to Blue. Mine is also in retirement just being a lazy yard pooch now.... They do keep a piece of our hearts!!!
Absolutely. The most loyal, joyful, beautiful breed of any dog IMO. 🙏 ...maybe I’m biased, but still america’s #1 breed for a reason 😉
@@cc6694 I have a white english lab male and a rhodesian ridgeback female and they are my entire life now. Retired and my dogs are with me everywhere
"You're my boy Blue".
We have ourselves a chocolate lab named Cassius. Similar in looks, productivity in hunting and exactly the same when it comes to talking. And that's all it is. They're talking and excited about being with the best buddy they ever had. Ain't a whole lot better than that.
To each their own however don’t know how you could ever give your dog away just cause he’s old. I guess it’s just a difference of perspective; a dog to me is not a thing but a valued family member.
I maybe wrong, but seemed to me, Phil may have been pressured to.
A big problem in the world today. God never intended for animals to be humans. They are a animal, a tool.
@@IronSharpensIron127 I respectfully disagree.
@@IronSharpensIron127 I sustain that there is no other living creature on this planet who reveres man more so than self, dogs are truly a gift from God, and I believe the reason they age seven times faster is so we will realize our own mortality. Only Christ loved man more than dog... Want you to chew on that for a minute brother...
Work dog....Now retired..pretty simple....
I LOST MY BLACK LAB 5 YEARS AGO AND MISS HIM DEARLY. MY BEST FRIEND EVER.
What a beautiful dog
My beautiful black mix Cattle Dog was a loved family member as well as our other animal family member's. When she had to be put at rest with God it was one of the hardest parts of my life. God Bless to you and your family. He will show you that he loves you and is safe with Jesus Christ and your family. Memories are a blessing that we all get to have . I know some are bad and some are good but in the long run we are learning all the time on Earth 🌎 and we should be thankful for this 'Our Memories'. Amen 🙏
Man that's a awesome dog hope he's enjoying his retirement
Ole blue would never be content staying in a pen. Plus every time they would load up to hunt ole blue would prob go crazy. Better that he goes to the farm with a man he’s known his whole life.
Great point!
Honestly one of the best explanations as to why one would get rid of a retired work dog
Exactly.
Awww.... He is so cute and looked so adorable sitting in the truck. I love that name, "Blue". If I ever get another dog, I'm gonna name it "Ol' Blue". My daddy had a bunch of huntin dogs and my 2 favorites was named "Red and Joe." I cried and cried when they passed. I was about 7 years old. Thanks for this. Blessings from Bama🤗
A dog is referred to as, “Man’s Best Friend” with good reason!
He earned his retirement Mr. Phil. 🐾🐾
There's Duck Hunting and then there's duck hunting with a great Dog 🇺🇲
LOVE YOU MR ROBERTSON !!!
You're a good guy Phil. Thanks for posting the video.
Ive had labs that were pure bird dogs and they the biggest problems you could ever have but they the biggest loves you could ever have
Love this story I have lost so many over the years and now I rescue instead of getting pups because I feel they need LOVE and I do have lots for any type today we have an Akita/Dingo cross that is a twin and he and his brother fought none stop and with other dogs. He was an apartment dog in a cage all day while the people worked a very sad life eh. We just put down our border collie and I was empty and sad so I looked online and saw this golden almost like a deer called up and they drove him 100 miles to our door jumped out of the truck and straight to me just incredible. His name is Cain and his brother is Able so that amazing story humbled me to get straight with God he is my friend that takes me in the bush every day no matter what. He is 10 now and I pray he lives another 10 Im getting older now and losing them gets harder God willing we will keep walking on. Bless you, Phil, and your dog stories we need them so much that Cain will hunt ANYTHING especially other dogs but he is great with people.
My grandfather trained retrievers for duck hunting. He always had 2-4 trained dogs. Fabulous at it . It was so cool to watch the training.
Aw sht. Sucs bad loosing a farm dog. Like an old friend. A loved one. A brother.
Except these dogs weren't pets and only tools for their hobbies. Blue was sent to somebody else to live the rest of his life away from the people he's grown fond of.
Yah, Phils gonna miss him, but don't feel bad for the dog. He'll be loved by his new family and still has 4-5 yrs. to raump around in the snow. I heard on a different episode, Phil used blue for a new pup, which I think he already has. All is good in the La. duck world.
Even love won't save them , let them be themselves . They'll service you well
So glad Blue is retired and going to be "spoiled" beyond belief now...lol. Love a Labrador... they are awesome but....... DEFINATELY high strung dogs...lol. On my 3rd one.....he's wearing me down... but...... love a Lab. just can't help it. God Bless yall and so thankful for your channel.
Thanks for your service blue
So talented very talented blue you were made perfectly blue you do you love and light blue great job blue enjoy your new home love and light 🙏❤️✌️
Beautiful dog.
Love this!!! I'm a coonhound man myself, but I love them Lab's!!
Some of these people need to watch the WHOLE VIDEO. The dog didn't die. He just retired from hunting and now lives in Colorado.
Yeah with an a hole who slaps him on the back extremely hard for no reason whatsoever. The dog is better off locked in a cage.
Fitting send off Phil. Clearly he was special
Well done Blue!!
So long Blue. Enjoy the mountains.
