    You're so right about there being a huge lack of actual deep conversations between Wilmon this season. I absolutely get why they wrote it this way, they really want to show that the Crown is absolutely crashing Wille apart. But I still wished they had done more actual talking and didn't just do kissing-fighting-kissing-fighting. I much prefer S3 over S2 but this reason is why S1 will always be my favourite.

      They are immature people in an overly complicated and adult situations, it's not totally fair to expect them to talk a lot, they are not Nick and Charlie. They are an exception and they are not in Simon's and Wilhelm's positions, give the boys s break

    Them not having deep conversations right now makes perfect sense to me. They're both trying to convince themselves their relationship is okay, but both of them are getting crushed by the weight of the crown. Wille is trying to be the crown prince he's supposed to be, but also Simon's boyfriend, while Simon is trying to accommodate the court but losing his joys like singing and having certain freedoms restricted while also being judged harshly by the public. Of course they'd rather be making out than talk, especially when talking leads to fighting (because their relationship is being squeezed too tightly by Wilhelm's crown prince status).

    • @femcults
      @femcults 8 месяцев назад +63

      and many people question their relationship and think "why are they even together then if they have such different opinions" but fail to realize that they actually don't. wille deep down does agree with what simon says. i mean, literally in the first episode of the series he tells simon that he loved what he said when he called out classism but couldn't say anything because of his royal position. and the pressures and trauma that wille goes through causes him to not be able to express himself properly to the point where he and simon clash in their convos. also at the end of the day, these are 16 year old boys. teenagers can often have a hard time having deep conversations without getting heated, i mean even adults struggle with this.

      It’s also interesting to me how they clearly migrate between the beds?? Like, the time where Simon’s shirt is still on and you can’t see Wille is on Wille’s bed, then when Simon’s behind Wille they’re on the other bed, then finally when Simon’s on Wille’s lap they’re back on Wille’s bed. It *has* to mean something. (Me and my friends’ vague “spaghetti theory” (ridiculous theory that is kinda insane sounding) is that the time that happens on the other bed is subtextually in the future, not the present).

    • @RedBanana_
      @RedBanana_ 8 месяцев назад +11

      @@SIushyDrowning It’s kinda hard to explain without images but I’ll do my best:
      *First bit:*
      You can see the lamp on Simon’s left/in the background, and Wille’s shelf is to the left of it, making it clearly on Wille’s bed.
      *Simon behind Wille:*
      You can see Wille’s shelf to Wille’s left, and it’s way too far away to have taken place on Wille’s bed, placing them on the other bed.
      ~ kissing intermission (in Wille’s room) and they’re moving back towards Wille’s bed ~
      *Simon on Wille’s lap:*
      You can see the lamp on Wille’s left, so unless Wille’s sat facing the wall, they’re clearly back on Wille’s bed. Also, when it zooms out a bit, you can also see Wille’s shelf behind Wille/on Wille’s left and the curtains are on the right.
      (This scene is fairly subtextually important, so me and my friends have discussed it a fair amount, mostly in regards to the fact that the subtext makes it very clear that Simon has been s3xual abused/gr0omed/r@ped in the past, so it’s interesting that the scene generally focuses on Simon’s pleasure, and the both times they’re presumably having an@l s3x (it kinda pains me to have to censor so many words, but you never know what words youtube is gonna decide are inappropriate) Simon is the one “setting the pace”(?) of it all? Like, obviously Wille has just as much control over the whole experience but, it’s just interesting that they’ve done it in a way that allows Simon to feel in control? Idk. I could be seeing things (in regard to this scene, not Simon’s past - there’s too much evidence for it).
      Edit in response to the 2 replies because yt is being annoying: I can’t answer here, I’m sorry, but tvmicroscope’s articles on substack explain it really well.

    I'm so frustrated because I feel like most of the bad vibes between Wilhelm and Simon in these episodes come from Wilhelm being forced to tell Simon what he can and can't do in public like he's his boss or something, which creates such a weird dynamic between them. There's absolutely zero chance that the royal court wouldn't give some sort of media training to the official partner of the crown prince and it bothers me so much that they just put all of that responsibility on Wilhelm. Thanks for a great reaction as always 🥰

    • @k.j.hulander2204
      @k.j.hulander2204 8 месяцев назад +19

      I think it’s just a reflection of the dynamic between Wille and the court who tell him what he can and cannot do. By extension of being in that circle, the same bullshit rules and restrictions extend to Simon. And with little privacy available to them, they use those rare hours for “fun” which is certainly a valid escapism in the midst of all the shit, even though it leads to crucial conversations getting deferred and small issues growing into festering ones.

    • @jaybehkay2438

      I totally agree with you but also I think party Wille wanted to do it himself thinking it wouldn’t feel as bad coming from him or he would be able to do it in a nicer way than the court would. I think he tried to do it in a way to not hurt Simon but it just backfired and made their dynamic super awkward. But yeah the royal court fully should have and would have sent like a list of rules and recommendations to Simon the second Wille did his speech/the settlement happened. And so much of this could have been avoided

    i think it's important to remember that simon has always had to act like the "man" of the house after their father was neglectful and left them. he had to take care of sara even though she's the older sister and he also tries to not add stress to his mom's life because he knows she's a single mom who works paycheck to paycheck. it's why simon tries to handle problems himself and doesn't open up to her about his feelings. he's not just being a "typical teenager" he's a young boy who had to grow up too fast.

  • @ThatsMyUsborneBook
    @ThatsMyUsborneBook 8 месяцев назад +134

    So Simon, in season one, deliberately kept any problems about Sara and his life at Hillerska hidden from his mum because he did not want to burden her. He lied to reassure her when she'd get worried about Sara and equally made decisions to help Sara's wellbeing at school. It seemed that he was taking care of his mum and sister when his dad left and after the abusive relationship that seemed to have really affected the whole family. This is why he doesn't share anything bad that he's going through with his mum. He's trying to protect her. He always has.
    As to the comments he is getting. I think he is reading them because often they concern his family and are from the people in their town. That, along with the phone calls at night and hate-mail, means that he's on hyper-alert about threats to him and his family. So, my theory is that he is monitoring his comments and engaging to try to defuse things. But just like in all 3 seasons, his actions often lead to more problems.
    This is basically a 16 year old kid, the youngest in his family, doing things an adult should be doing. This is very relatable for many working-class single parent families.
    Also, as to the comments, there have been many incidents, unfortunately , teenagers getting hate comments online from their peers and bullied to the point of taking their own lives. Simply telling them not to read the comments may not have worked for them. Simon needs actual support, less obliviousness from the adults in his life about what is happening to him (that includes the Royal Court), and understanding about the actual effect of comments on his mental health from everyone around him. He is a victim of actual hate, and when I hear about any child going through that kind of regular abuse, my heart goes out to them.

      This. This. This. Also, this is why I’ve been saying since season 1: get these boys (Wille and Simon) a therapist. Like, sure, Wille had Boris in season 2 but *why did he stop going* (individually) *in season 3???* Honestly, I swear 60% of wilmon’s problems could’ve been avoided if they’d just both been in therapy.
      In summary, a lot of wilmon’s problem solving kinda feels like using buckets to prevent a leaky boat from sinking. They need to fix the problem at the source: get better at communicating!

    • @ThatsMyUsborneBook
      @ThatsMyUsborneBook 8 месяцев назад +15

      @RedBanana_ but they're also just kids in their first relationship. Miscommunication is completely normal at that age. They've only just been spending actual time with each other this season and getting to know each other. Yet they are dealing with adult problems and so many of us fans are shouting at the screen - talk to each other! I feel like, if I were one of them, there is so much weight on me that I'd be too scared to open the floodgates and actually tell you what's happening because I don't want to scare you. And no wonder they spend most of their time making out. It's the easiest part of their relationship and what gives them actual joy at the moment.

    • @RedBanana_
      @RedBanana_ 8 месяцев назад +4

      @@ThatsMyUsborneBook 100%. And I totally get why they kinda tiptoe around talking about problems until they can’t avoid them anymore, I just feel like neither of them had healthy relationships modelled for them by their parents, and now they’re teenagers in a situation that most adults couldn’t effectively handle, so they’re kinda stuck in this ‘sink-or-swim’ situation where they both clearly love one another, they’re just kinda poor at handling their problems (which I understand! I would just also love for them to get help with those problems from someone who *isn’t* an actual teenager who’s got their own mass of problems (ie: a therapist)).

The whole scene, from practically skipping into the hall, giving each other heart-eyes, awkward kisses and stripping off, loving touches, passionate embrasses and love-making, to post-climactic "I love you's" took 70 seconds of screen time.

And that doesn't excuse the things she has done, but it explains some of her thought patterns in things she was trying to do right and them coming out so wrong. Some things she really decided against doing the right thing, because she was selfish in that moment and wanted to protect August, but other things she really wanted to do the best and it just made it worse.

    I think they had a bit of deeper talk in episode two. But let's not forget they are teenagers. The one criticism heartstopper deserves from my perspective is how everyone basically always know how to perfectly express their emotions and act accordingly. • @tova1412

    9:14 honestly there can be many reasons you wouldn't want to talk to your parents about whatever's going on. it could be that they've had bad reactions in the past (such as Simon saying to his mom why he didn't tell her about the drugs in the first place: "you wouldn't have been able to handle the fact that I can also fuck up" which probably stems from a whole lot of things in their past). or you might not want to worry them more, or you might simply not be ready yourself to open up. just because the parent is ready (or wants to appear ready) to hear you open up, doesn't mean you yourself feels ready to, especially when you've had bad experiences doing so in the past.

    I almost have to like, take a deep breath, and remember it's a TV show and so characters have to make decisions that increase the tension so that it can be resolved later for dramatic payoff.
    E.g. It would be lovely for Wilhelm and Simon to start off by having a nice open conversation establishing their needs from each other, their boundaries, and healthy conflict resolution dynamics that work for both of them; then always use that to effectively deal with any problems that may arise for them and support each other through their individual issues... but a character development speedrun like that doesn't make for good TV! A drama where the two main characters always communicate well enough to solve their problems immediately sounds like a very short story (or an SNL sketch idea).

As lovely as Heartstopper is, the efficient communication skills (as well as physical sexual restraint) of all them in that show is not the most realistic. Like them not cuddling in the tent after they fought about Willes ignorance about his privilege is a mistery to me. I think it`s unrealistic, teenagers would have made out anyway. @@anthill1510 I dunno man, teens are emotional and take things personally. If I were Simon I've would have ignored Wille too in the tent scene, it's not like they owe affection to each other or to the audience. Also I have to disagree, they have been way more intimate and touchy this season than any other. And they argue for very valid reasons, the point is imo that they are so distressed about all of their situation that they try their best to act comfortable and chill while everything around them is messed up. You can feel the distress in their relationship while you watch the show and that's why the finale (little bit of spoilers ahead) feels so good and rewarding bc let's be honest, Wille and Simon have suffered a lot throughout the show. So coming back to your comment, I believe they tried their best to not fight much for their situation's sake and bc, I'll say it again, they are traumatized teenage lovebirds so let them be

      @@mya.1235 Ahm, yeah I let them be, won`t do anything to them actually. I just remembered how the couples acted in our school when we were teenagers and they were glued together at the mouth, so in comparison there was not that much between Wille and Simon. Especially in Episode 5 there was a lack of affection, but I get why. Of course they don`t own each other or the audience affection, that`s not what I meant.
      I agree with you on all the other things, they were under incredible pressure and they did a good job not fighting too much and trying to understad each other.
      They sure argued for valid reasons. A point I was trying to make is that maybe they would have been able to discuss instead of argue when they wouldn`t put distance between themselves every time they have different opinions.
      The spoiler you gave was an actual spoiler for me. It`s fine, but maybe try to avoid that, not everybody already watched the whole series.

      @@anthill1510 first of all, I apologise for the spoiler. I tried to be as vague as possible but I failed and I'm very sorry. Also don't interpret me responding as an attack, if you did it was not my intention, I enjoy this exchange of opinions bc almost no one I know has watched the show. You know, I reflected about what you're saying here and I agree: from a "more realistic" standpoint yes, they could have talked more bc they would be interested in one another and their respective point of view, especially in their situation. On the other hand tho they are teenage boys and despite I don't want to perpetuate a stereotype by saying this, they both seem to be inclined to not to express their emotions even if they are alone together, mostly this is society's fault. Wille even more, since he comes from a family where tradition and established gender roles are radicaded extensively. From a TV show writing prospective tho I got to say that if they did talked a little more it wouldn't have had the same impact on the storytelling. Show tend to do this bc the drama can't be really drama if they resolve all of their issues instantly, and the story would have suffered from it. I'm not saying that Wilhelm and Simon's relationship was the only thing that the season had for drama, god no if it had it would be terrible as a screenwriting prospective. So that's about it what I have to say for now but PLEASE tell me your thoughts and theories! I'm so glad I can finally talk to someone about YR 🙏🙏 💜
      Hope I hear from you again my guy

    I was getting frustrated at Wille for not having any communication whatsoever with Simon because there is that scene in the first season where Wilhelm gets so upset, he even cries, at the thought of losing Simon because he himself says to Simon's face that he is the only person he can talk to.

    But as the writer always said and also you can see throughout this season, wille and simon fights and problems was not bcs they were together or bcs the loved each other, it is bcs of monarchy and the role wille has that made him like this nervous and struggling with everything and he can not be himself, and as the writer said if u see more carefully all their fights and issues is about monarchy and the role of being a crown prince, I mean this role made these issues between them. actually with those scenes they were just trying to fight for their love as much as they could. I know the kinda have lack of conversations this season but even if they had they would not have any result I guess bcs wille is in this role and be with a crown prince and this family has so many limitation and destroys you as who you really are and also monarchy did this to wille as well that he cant be himself and know he sees this in simon that what monarchy do with a person's life. but bcs they love eo they were just enduring and fighting for their love. for example he loved what simon posted smiling at his pic with that guy and then they called him to tell simon delete it, like their whole issue is monarchy.

      To be fair, I think that goes both ways. Both are in their heads about the situation they are in and do not really see where the other is coming from. @femcults 8 месяцев назад +6

      @@wonderstruck07 wille conforming to the royal court makes perfect sense given the two things that we are set up in s3 ep 1. 1. after the shit august tried to pull on him and simon in the s2 finale, wille will do anything to not let august become crown prince. in s2, the queen told wille that they made august his backup in the event that they feel he cannot handle the title of crown prince. this means that if wille tries to continously challenge/upset the royal court, they will end up stripping him of the title and giving it to august. 2. his mother's mental health has gone to shit, and the royal court is continously telling him that he must not get into any scandals or drama or else she will just become even more stressed. he basically feels like if he does anything to challenge the monarchy's commands, he will cause his mother to be on the brink of death. it is no wonder why wille feels like he has to give into what the monarchy wants now because he has multiple factors pressuring him to do so. the monarchy ultimately destroys who he is which is why he regresses in comparison to the previous seasons

    Brad you need to to complete your reactions to all the episodes. It's such a treat watching you react and listening to your analysis. And trust me ep 5 will break you down but it's worth all the emotions and crying for ep 6 ending. Young royals has been such an iconic and such a transforming era and I love to be part of this fandom. The show might have ended but the characters, the cast, the fandom will continue to live in our hearts. The storyline and charachter development and all the nuanced emotions that a teenager goes through, the pressure thrown by the Monarchy, Simon's struggle to be himself and losing his shine, Wilhelm's struggle to balance both his responsibilities as Crown Prince and Simon's boyfriend, Felice facing discrimination,her loyalty towards her friends and her adorable friendship with Wilhem, Sara's growth and redemption arc, the therapy sessions with the therapist giving great and lasting advice, the friendship between all the students is portrayed so well in this. Despite the emotional breakdowns it gives it still is my comfort show.

    I personally think Wille shouldn't have been the one to monitor Simon and his social media. After his speech, the court should have assigned Simon a press person and security guards. At least give him and his family a list of dos and don'ts! The fact that they didn't makes me think that the court was hoping that the boys' relationship would die due to the pressure/attention Simon was getting.

This shit fucks you up. You will forever have trust issues. That bleeds into Simon's lack of trust towards Wille as well.
    During the scene where Sara found Micke sleeping at home, my first thought was, "Well, he's relapsed". I myself still haven't figured out how to rebuild the trust that has been broken time and time again. So i'm gonna be a Micke hater till the end

    They are sixteen years old. I remember being sixteen and madly in love with my boyfriend at the time, but having a niggling feeling of us disconnecting. We were young, stupid, horny and terrified to lose each other if we let conversation run too far, so anytime things got a bit too 'real' we kept conversation to the surface, pretended that was the revelation we needed and had 'passionate' make up sex. In hindsight it was a mix of denial, hormones and desperation. I feel like that's exactly what I saw Wille doing here, te conversations are so hard but the physical feels so strong and real (especially at that age), so he resorts to this when things get a bit too close to the core of their problems. Love is confusing enough for anyone to figure out at that age, let alone for a queer royal.

I have a feeling, since season 1 , he only looked at us when he felt that he had control. Control over his life and himself and being sure about what will happen. In season 3 he looked at us 3 times, and in all I feel like he feels in control.

They're both teenagers and the (lack of) communication and them both exploring for themselves who they are and what they want, really shows how much Wilhelm and Simon both need to grow as persons. Individual or together, it can go both ways, but the die hard rooting for Wilmon is over for me ;) (although I've already watched the whole thing. But just to react on this episode...)
