    Systemic racism is no longer an issue. Even the slightest hint of racism in our government systems is quickly dealt with. The racism that does exist is in our minds, in our thinking. You can't legislate what people think. I agree with Rev. Brown. I believe that racism is a moral issue and that religion is the answer, the best way to combat it.

    • @jabulani22shepo61
      @jabulani22shepo61 2 года назад +1

      I must tell you as a faithful LDS and black member systemic racism does exist. Stop looking at life experience from your point of view. I dealt with racism several days ago in Georgia when I was refused entry into Kroger by a white male employee because I didn't have a mask on. I ask where is the sign that says all people need a mask to enter, he then pointed to a sign. I said that sign is not in the front it's in the back. I placed my mask on without any argument or anything. When I walked into the store I a saw all these white folks with no masks on at all. I took pictures and video. All the blacks folks I saw had a mask on. I reported this to the manager and she apologize by saying there must of been a miscommunication. She looked for the employee. I then contacted corporate headquarters who is now investigating the incident. Racism excist it's not something you run into every now and then.

      I have a friend (white girl) that teaches in an inner city school. She teaches a classroom full of black students. When George Floyd happened, she asked them how bad it really is out there. She then asked for a show of hands how many of them had been called the "n" word that month. Every hand went up. She said to lower their hands if it was another black person that said it. No hands went down. Those that are blind to racism choose to be blind, but the truth will all be made known one day and those that sought truth and reconciliation will be justified.

    The first time I heard Rev. Brown quote the lyrics of "Come, Come Ye Saints" for memory, it brought me to tears and now, years later, it still gets to me how he has taken this hymn to heart. I wish the LDS church would similarly embrace hymns from the black gospel tradition which are more energetic and joyous and less somber.

    • @MolyBDenum-lh3wy
      @MolyBDenum-lh3wy 2 года назад +1

      I’m thinking you don’t know a lot of LDS hymns if you refer to them as being somber and not joyful! They (tabernacle choir) did cover a few black gospel songs but you need to remember the church music has a sound of its own and should be appreciated as other denominations have their different styles as well…I personally prefer the reverence of our music because it’s one of the major ways I hear the Lord’s voice…worship music doesn’t always need to be loud and is a bit of a turn off for me personally…it’s not what I’d want to hear early Sunday morning or during conference…maybe during a concert would be the perfect occasion 👍🏻

      Reread all the comments here and you will see racism is still very alive and well and it's burning with a fever pitch. If giving special attention to a race of people that unitedly (in this country and around the world) feel that they are marginalized makes you angry and fills you with a contentious spirit, I would invite you to consider who you're currently enlisted to fight for. Like in the premortal existence, there are only two sides...

      @@ddrummerman1 I grew up in America in the 80's and 90's and never felt even a hint of racism from either white or black people, or Asian or middle-eastern or any other race for that matter. We watched black families on TV and never categorized them by race, only as people. We never felt that race was an issue, until very recently. It was not until very recently that race became such a huge issue again after it had largely been non-existent in the general population. Now, somehow, it has become a defining issue again. Why do you think that is? It seems strange to regress, doesn't it? All of this rhetoric seems to be pulling us apart, making people feel "other-ed", and begin to define themselves by their skin color again, which is not a good thing. As the pastor said, we are all children of our Father. WE are all of the same family. I've always felt this way, but it seems the media has made a major shift lately...........

Going so far as to give millions to a POLITICAL group that spreads lies and hate about people instead of trying to bring people together. I've gotten a lot of grief for my opinions on this, but I see the church making statements of blame and shame, and supporting groups that I would not be comfortable supporting on moral grounds. I feel like I've had a similar experience. I have struggled with this and other issues more than ever before as a member of the church. I am finally finding peace and hope and inspiration in one thing. In my observation, the first presidency is leading out and setting an example of how we can focus on things that unite us with others, rather than emphasizing those things that divide us. I haven't heard any statements from church leadership that adopt what others claim to be truth. They instead declare truths we can agree on. For example, racism is evil and should be condemned. I think this video is a good example. I don't think there is anything in this video I would disagree with. If church leadership chose to condemn any error, overthrow or rebel against oppressive governments or government actions, I believe that the mission of preparing the world for the second coming would be compromised. By focusing on unity through truth, we unite with the world and serve to prepare it for the second coming of Christ...which I hope is sooner than later. If this doesn't resonate with you, keep praying. There is no shame in asking questions and seeking understanding.

The minute you stop believing and start questioning the Lord's prophet in guiding his work, that's when you'll find yourself clearly on the path to apostasy. If we believe that the prophet is being guided by the Lord then there was nothing wrong at all with him reaching out to the NAACP and embrace them as our brothers in Christ working together for the common good of mankind, "to build bridges of cooperation rather than walls of separation." Let God be the judge as to what the NAACP's true platform is. Our duty as true followers of Christ is to reach out in love to all his children regardless of what, where, or who they are to share a message of love and peace and help bring all unto Christ! "What I the Lord have spoken, I have spoken, and I excuse not myself;...whether by my own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same." D&C 1:38

      @@ddrummerman1 Moroni actually did reach out in love to his enemies in love often, he gave them the chance to walk away peacefully with a promise of peace. He despised shedding blood and war. It Sounds like you forgot about that part... I agree with the pastor, we do need to communicate with each other in love, often. That is the way to heal this world. Let's follow Christ's doctrine and love our enemies... I would be very, very worried about following someone else's doctrine.

      @@starman1910 I said *unrepentant* wicked that shed innocent blood. Zarahemna wouldn't leave with a covenant of peace, so Moroni gave him back his weapons and essentially said we will finish this. Reaching out to a soul who has gotten lost in a cause like the KKK is one thing, but sympathizing with an entire organization like the KKK, whose foundation and existence is in fact a diabolical secret combination sounds dangerously close to "support[ing] or promot[ing] any teachings, practices, or doctrine contrary to those of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints".

    Brown needs to come out STRONGLY against the taking of life of the unborn. And...... find scriptural references of God's teaching against "unnatural affection.:
