In Omoiyari: a Song Film by Kishi Bashi, internationally acclaimed composer and songwriter Kaoru Ishibashi (professionally know as "Kishi Bashi") embarks on a personal quest by creating his music in locations relevant to the Japanese American Incarceration during WWII. It is on this journey in which Kishi Bashi comes to terms with his own identity, and uncovers a myriad of social issues that have gripping modern relevance. ‘Omoiyari’ is a genre breaking, artistic exploration that fuses history, music, and the complexities of the human condition.

It just hurts me knowing that this is the first time in my life i ever heard about this event WHY IS IT NOT INTERGRATED IN HISTORY CLASS ?!
Interesting, what state did you grow up in? The Japanese internment was covered EXTENSIVELY in my California public school history classes in the 80s and 90s. The Manzanar internment camp is a national historic site in the eastern sierras of California…Check out the movie “Snow Falling On Cedars.”
I guess it is when you went to school and where. we can in no way teach everything about history. It was probably mentioned if you study any of wwII.

I saw Jupiter One years ago at a small venue and K took the time to sincerely speak with anyone who wanted to speak to him, even an old white guy. He didn't know me from Jack..but he just embraced me as a person, literally. I was blown away by his warmth and openness. Not at all surprised to see he is doing great things. I felt it that day, or at least suspected I was in the presence of greatness. One gets that feeling every now and then. It's a kind of glow or buzz, an emanation. Angelic?
We just saw the film Omoiyari at Ebertfest here in Champaign. Kishi attended and was kind enough to stay for a Q and A session along with an impromptu performance with a local musician ( missed his name ! ) . The film is well made and pure in it's intentions and inspiration, and to call Mr. Bashi talented is an understatement. I am grateful for his honest approach to his own humanity and, well, everyone's really. If I get the chance to see him in concert I will go.

Why is the song for you on the cd different then the one on the trailer? Both amazing though.
I found Kishi years ago on another channel. His beautiful music spoke to me. I’m married to a Japanese woman and my children are half American/half Japanese. My daughter is a high schooler now. I want her to see this. I think it will speak her as much as it has me.

Hope to see this updated to the plight of Asian Americans in America since covid. I am disgusted with the Chinese Government but more so at the misdirected anger of those in the West to those of us who are not Chinese but look as if they could be (aka asian or "different") though any such intolerance is universally unacceptable.
Good to see 'I am the antichirst' in there somewhere (pls!), as its just the saddest most beautiful song ever and surely could channel the plight of the theme.
