This is why I think that electric cutouts with full, standard exhaust are the best of both worlds, oh and I do agree on the boy racer intakes with huge cone filters. They just make it sound so mean under heavy throttle, but still quiet at cruise.
I liked that noise from the intakes. It makes it sound like a lot of latent power. You are right. This makes most sence on an XLS convertable rather than the salon.
Question for you I found a beautiful ‘85 xjs v12 on fb marketplace, 30k miles, except for minor fender damage, a few hood dents, and a spidercracked windshield, (from a tree branch landing on it) Everything is mint. Interior is gorgeous, little to no obvious rust. The seller is only asking $3,150, should I buy it? I have a bit of mechanical experience but also have connections to a classic jag shop near me who could definitely help with mechanical stuff.
Such a gorgeous vehicle! I agree, the exhaust is just right, not too loud. And nothing is like driving or riding with the top down, I love convertibles ever since I was 5 years old! Plus, this gets you ready for the rest of your work day! Also, a nice touch showing us steps in order to put the top down!
@@LivingWithAClassic She will be hooked! As a child, nothing like it whatsoever! My experience was my kindergarten teacher, who had a 1969 Camaro convertible, red, white interior and top. I begged for a ride, and got one, with the top down. I was thrilled, and hooked! Two favourites were a BMW 635 convertible and a SAAB 93 convertible. I'm sure this Jaguar is the epitome of both elegance and fun to drive!
Hi Adam, I have the same car (1989). Here in America, the down tubes have a screen in each tube. Then a cat below that. Urrgh! Opening up the exhaust is keen. I love exhausts with a doughnut or flanges bolted together. This V-12 is too choked down via emissions here in the states. A very nice job on everything. I work from home also. I get the Cabin fever thing.Ross
The cats have been removed on this one so it does breath a lot better because of that also. Yes working from home really gives me cabin fever! I keep longing for long drives to just any place at all
Great video, I too have an XJS V12 Convertible and took out the front silencers a few years ago, the sound is awesome. Don't know about you but I never have the radio on when driving - I just listen to that beautiful V12! May look to change the intakes now too.
How do you deal with the engine temperature? Does it climb because of the much bigger intake is located right in the engine compartment, which is already cramped but also very hot. Please let me know. Great channel though!! Thanks. J.
Lovely video I did the same with my XJS added the centre pipes but not the air intakes. Don’t know if you’ve tried the TWR steering rack bushes as that makes the world of difference to the handling!
Sounds like you have the lower geared starter. I upgraded to one when the original died. I do miss the slower crank sound over the faster whining. Fitted same centre delete and changed the rear boxes to sport boxes, they added some extra grunt to the exhaust tone but not sure yet if I like it that load on a long run. Not having cats in the UK helps so much.
Nice video, Adam. Love that car. My ‘89 XJ-S TWR coupe just failed it’s emissions test in California I have 30 days to figure out why it’s running rich and how to fix it. Bumming me out…
@@LivingWithAClassic by a lot. Deemed a “gross polluter.” It’s now in the shop trying to get it to pass. Not sure about the firing but it doesn’t seem like it’s missing a cylinder.
@@LivingWithAClassic So we got it to pass smog this week, which is good., but cost me almost $600 to repair on top of the $90 for the failed test. It is running better now, fortunately. Trying to sell my Range Rover to pay for new paint and interior for the XJ-S….
Hi Adam, great video, I am planning to do the same exhaust up-grade and delete the centre box and remove the cat and front box as well, its a USA import into Europe, do you know if I have to change anything else like the ECU after I have deleted the front cat and box? I am also putting K&N intake filters on. The other item I saw on the video was the wind deflector which looked very good, where did you get it from and do you have the manufacture so I can get one? thanks keep up the good work.
Thats a nice purrrr.... Would you consider doing a video tour concentrating on what is different about the "Classic"? I've never found anything beyond the badge but I figure there is something besides that.
To me there are only two types of exhaust note that suits and XJS. Whisper quiet on a road car or straight pipe, throttle body, manual transmission in a race car!
Very nice. I hate all the stupid straight pipe stuff that "da kids" seem to think is so cool. It's quantity over quality again. Go for the tone not the volume. Your car sounds to have just the right balance.
@@LivingWithAClassic , they're not all the same at all,U.S. versions got cats,EGR,a reduced compression ratio of 10.5:1 making 263bhp,Europe got 12.5:1 with no emissions equipment producing 295bhp. You're down at least 20bhp with the cats and EGR deleted.
Forgot to mention in the video that it has the European non-cat downpipes also. That also makes the exhaust more free flowing
North American in Sweden driving Jaguars! Fantastic!

Thanks for sharing! I love the sound and the twin headlamps :-) I just ordered those lamps for my 89 XJS V12. All the best from Switzerland.
I liked that noise from the intakes. It makes it sound like a lot of latent power. You are right. This makes most sence on an XLS convertable rather than the salon.
It's nice to hear the engine a bit more

Thats pure music on the ears Adam. Will make me bankrupt because i will follow that roaring sound of those cats underneath the bonnet.
I have the centre box bypass, great addition. Hold it in gear or do kickdown! Should be 5.5k+ in the tunnel!
It's a very very small road so sadly not possible to go very fast there
Such a gorgeous vehicle!

You have a very fine taste for cars. The XJS is a quite unique ride. Thanks for sharing 👍
Sounds excellent. Always great to hear a real growl in the 12-Cylinder cat. Now that's an alpha Jaaag!
It sure is!

Hi Adam.
THAT'S A GREAT SOUNDING JAGUAR V12 !!!
AWESOME !!!
Glad you liked it!
Best lunch hour ever. Top down on a beautiful day.
Sure is! When working from home I sometimes feel like I just have to get out a little. Getting pretty sick of just being at home
This is exactly the sort of content I am here for - and I am going to order one of those T-shirts!
I'm glad you liked it and thanks for ordering a shirt!

Hi, could I ask what the 'S' in front of the car reg plate denotes please. In the UK we know this as a prefix for 'Sweden'
He is in Sweden so you are correct
Yes I do live in Sweden so that is what the S stands for
Love love love the T-shirt!
Lovely noise and a beautiful car!👍
Thank you!
Beautiful! 😍
I’m glad you like it!
Hi love your show. I have a 1988 jaguar xj6 . I want to jaguar xjs little
Adam see is such a beautiful car she really is
Thanks Rick I totally agree!
Hi Adam, you need your shades!!! Love the v12!!
I do! I have been resting my eyes ever since allergy season but I usually wear contacts. I’ll start wearing them soon again so I can wear shades

How badly is it running rich? By a lot or just a little over? Running on all 12?

CA is a bummer for these issues- did you try the coolant temperature sensor delete trick to resolve the problem?
It sounds great!

Excellent cheap mod. Have you upgraded your brakes and shocks on the XJS?
No everything else is stock on it
The pod filters will suck in a lot of hot air, losing performance. I guess you can enjoy the sound though.
Thats a nice purrrr.... Would you consider doing a video tour concentrating on what is different about the "Classic"? I've never found anything beyond the badge but I figure there is something besides that.
Sure I could do that in the future. There are a few things that make them unique
Where did you get the tee shirt?
I have designed them and they are in my store. Link is in the description of the video
Every owner has a very thick file full of repair recepts. Beautiful but too costly to maintain 😢
I’m looking for 96XJS but I want the six cylinder I think they’re more reliable and easy to work on
Don't let the V12 scare you. Find a good one and it will be very reliable for you
That lovely !!!
Thank you!

Yes it is

I hate that too but this is just enough of an open exhaust in my opinion
Swap out the engine for the European one, higher compression and more power.
After 1981 they all have the same compression ratio all over the world.

I would prefer to keep it all stock, seems a shame to ruin a Clasic car
Hardly 'ruined' a classic car, the modifications are not visible and enhance the car and driving experience
To each their own but this just makes it a little more special in my opinion. And it can all be made stock within a few hours if someone wants to
