@@harrywalker968 Take note of his comments regarding available space onboard the vehicle, and his comments on purchasing a product that suits you. Didn't see any service stations out on those tracks so is it just the one tyre inflation for yourself per trip or do you tow a trailer full of fire extinguishers? Or maybe you could think about a 3 phase rotary screw compressor with diesel 3 phase generator mounted to your roof.
Looks good. I run 2 x outlets in my drawers for the air. 1 is run through a pressure regulator on the manifold set to 40psi for pumping tyres. That way I don't have to keep checking tyre pressures when filling. The second port is unregulated which is great for cleaning filters and dusting off camp gear.
You don’t need the manifold, you can plumb the pressure switch/safety relief directly into the tank, saves you a few dollars. I’d also up your pressure and relief to a 150 off/120psi on switch, and a 172psi safety. Another compressor option is an endless air, they are an engine mounted compressor that performance wise smashes just about every 12v compressor on the market away. It’s a great compressor if your space constrained.

Another great DIY episode. You guys are really inspirational to the DIY (& for many parts, the budget) 4WD community. Airing down/up is a real pain, but a recommended must-do when going offroad. And while I think my ARB Portable HO compressor does the job well, like you have pointed out, getting it setup can be tidious. You boys have certainly given me points to ponder. Great work. 👍

I was actually thinking about onboard air just this week. Now that I know where to buy it locally, it might just be my next mod project! Thanks for another great diy video.
This is an awesome video. You helped me so much. Totally changed my mind. I have an F350 with cap on the bed and bed slide. I am going to mount mine next to the bed slide, in the rear of the bed where I never go or use. Initially I was thinking under the truck but, you have me rethinking the install, Thank you so much

My truck is stock and can't do the crazy stuff. Right now I just got a new portable compressor to replace the old handmedown that was at least 25 years old lol. Works for what I need at the moment for topping up tires as they get low.
Great install video! I wonder if you could mount that compressor in that pocket area with the tank as well? Maybe mount a couple vents so it has suitable airflow, make it even quieter inside the vehicle?
Here in the states , we dont have anything cool like this. That twin ARB under the hood compressor is what everyone wants. Id rather have your set up any day. The project looked too be a good time too
Before I saw this, I was more or less resigned to the ARB system for a compact installation for our 150 Prado. Having seen this, I have spent the ~500 bucks and picked up this exact system and it works a treat! Shame they didn't send us a sticker for the rear window, though, haha!
Honestly if I can get a setup cheap enough I would be pretty tempted to put one of these together for my (very much not offroad) sedan just in case I ever get a low tire/slow leak. I could juice my tire enough to get to a shop without having to call a tow.
Hey Patrick, i see you have a zip tie around coiled outlet ine. That line gets hot enough to melt plastic, the length of that line is also to slightly cool the air before it goes in to other lines
Great vid really enjoyed! The AOB kit looks like a really good alternative to the exorbitant prices you see for the arb/tjm compressor kits. Wish I hadve seen this a few weeks ago when I needed a new compressor 😅
If you find that these 12 air comps are a bit too slow and you want to start putting air suspension seats and air bags on the rear and have some air horns you can get a automotive aircon compressor. thers plenty of vids on here to convert one on to a air compressor and it runs off your engine which is more better but more work is involved with setting it up but is a awesome feature to have on any 4wds
Couple of things to keep in mind. Or changes you can do. First off, is have an air gauge mounted next to the air chuck on the drawer face. That way you don't need to keep opening the lid to check the gauge. Second, good luck getting to the drain easily. Since you have now buried it underneath, and the only way to access it is to remove the tank. And third, most, air tanks are rated for a max off 100psi. So getting a 145psi safety relieve valve, might not be a good idea. Because if that safety ever fails. You now have a bomb.
Thanks Matt! tanks meant to be rated for 200psi, and i can just fit a cup under it to drain it, but apperently you don't often need to drain them, but i'll keep you updated on that! cheers :)
all pressure tanks, will stand 4 times advertised pressure, as a safety..this is why lifts have 4-8 cables, when 1 is enough.. plus, that tank is a fkn joke, too small,,he needs big alloy extinguishers, [or stainless lpg tank,,] like 3 of them, as i have.. fill at servo, does 4 tires in 2 mins..
Hmmm, what about splitting the outlet and running them under the back seats, one for the left and one for the right. Then you wont need as much hose. Instead of having a long hose from the back?
Good install ✔️. But the drain valve should have a hose on the end so to let out the water 💦. Noticed the winch needs some attention 😁. I would cut down on the hoses ,takes up Room But everyone to there own. Keep up the good work you guys 👍✔️✔️
Thanks yeah we would of but we didn't have the right equipment to finish the hoses, but yes you could of definitely done that! And yes, I need to paint the winch motor 😅
Only thing I would do differently is put the manifold on a tank outlet, not between the compressor ans tank, takes away any potential restrictions that may be present in the manifold to aid the compressor.
To get faster tyre inflation times with a tank, the Schrader valve needs to be removed. A depressed Schrader flows about 2.5-3cfm and when removed from the valve about 30cfm. Airtec and Milton make air chucks where you can inflate with a removed valve core. I've gone 18-38psi into a 315/75R16 in about 17 seconds. (Though that doesn't include the time to unscrew and screw back in the valve)
@@mrmotofy yep, the higher the pressure differential, the better the performance. The ARB twin with its higher 150psi works better with tanks than the higher flowing TJM twin at 120psi
Nice Video. Is there a reason why you did not mount the tank under the car, bolted to the chasis, with a metal cover to protect it from knocks? Did you mount the switch inside the car for future air lockers? I would have placed the switch next to the air outlet.
Hey Guys, interested on how the system is working for you? After watching this video 12 months ago I purchased the same product/package, I found to inflate very slow (32 inch). After approximately 13 months since install the compressor blew up, that’s a Kings and this brand I have found to not last. Currently reading up on the ARB and TJM as will be upgrading to 33’s. Keep up the great videos.
Great vid. I have a question. You mentioned in one of your older video’s a mate who pre makes front seat floor fire extinguisher holders. Can you send through the website link. I can’t find it. Thank you.
Great video. Do you think the 6 litre tank would have fitted in LC80 wings or is it snug with 4 litre? Do you think next pressure switch up at 150psi would make much difference to pump up time?
With the multi inflate, what is the time comparison in inflating both tyres compared to one at the same time. ? Surely it wouldn’t be much quicker, just less messing around…. But I’m saying that you have all this extra hose to untangle and hook up. I’ve been keen to purchase something like this since they come out years ago, but just can’t bring myself to do it.
Great..been thinking about this for a while now. I came across a Vevor product "VEVOR 150PSI DC 12V Air Compressor with 6 Litre Tank" sells for a $109 around a 1/4 of the price of the Air On Board equivalent. It looks like I can replace the included compressor with my portable unit if/when the compressor fails too. Might be an option for others too.
Yeah 100% just watch out for duty rate, this air of on board compressor can run indefinitely and doesn't need to cool down, some cheaper compressors require you to let it cool down after a bit of work , but definitely plenty of options out there! Cheers
Get a Makita 18V compressor (DMP181) and a Makita 18V blower (DAS180) together with a corresponding car-charger (DC18SE) and you are finished (obviously you need a battery, too). Not only don't you have to *build* an air system, you don't have to deal with hose-lenght or storing a muddy hose. You can carry these tools whereever you want (help out people without having to move your car to them, blowing up a dinghy directly beneeth the water instead of carrying it from the car through the woods to the water etc.). And you have a basis where you can useful expand on, for example a small chainsaw (DUC254).
great video!!! just a quick question about the tuff terrain inflator, if you hook it up to one wheel does the air instantly start coming out the other wheel nozzle until you plug it on the second wheel? hopefully that makes sense
Hi from South Africa! Quick question on your drawer system... Is 3 drawers overkill for medium length trips? Considering I camp with a normal tent and need to carry a medium size ground tent instead of a rrt. Thanks again for another mod I'll be installing in the future!
The idea is not bad at all. But when using that to run lockers it would be very different story. For budget it is good for its purpose. Quick & fast it’s still the ARB twin, again like I said budget speaks. Please extend the gauge away from the manifold, for easier to read. Anyway Great video lads.
Awesome video, can i ask what water jerry can and what taps your using? been searching for a combination that does not leak from round the taps and where the taps can be done up tight without facing the wrong way. Cheers
Yeah, it's been a great unit so far, had no issues with it. love the quick connect tyre chucks. Aslong as your happy to carry the hoses it comes with, it's a good unit.
How’s this kit gone for you? I’ve got a Hilux with minimal space, so was going to go with the smaller single ARB compressor because of size. But I’m in Wdyte so these guys are super close. Do they do installs as well? Doesn’t say anything on their website. Cheers
LOVE THE VID MAN. off topic but do u think u will ever go a bigger tyre size. im same boat as u with 2" and 33s but it looks small and all my tracks around my place are cut by 35s and 37s. its a touring rig like yours but i still wanna go offraod at times
i rate the 33" , they are legal, they get good fuel ecconomy, they'll do 99% of what i want it to do, did some pretty good wheeling up billy goats in the snow last weekend on the 33", if anything i'd be adding a front locker. like don't get me wrong the car would be sick on 35" but just don't wanna become cop bait, and i want to do a fair bit of touring in this car in the coming years.
Thinking I might have to do something like this when I get ‘round to doing my rear drawer setup in my Prado 150 - this is sick, though I like my Kings Crap Double Thumper air compressor, so I might keep it if I choose to do this air setup.
Awesome video, you will be @ 100k soon & shipping you 4wds off to America to go next level! -only joking. I am doing a system with budget bits & including home made rock sliders doubling up as air tanks. It will be interesting to see how much punishment & bendy they can take before they will start to leak. You might already be aware of Nate from Dirt lifestyle on YT, I think he is in North America/Alaska, he did a series on a popular budget rebranded to death world wide compressor that is available here in AU through the regular suspect & outlets. Of which I bought both the twin piston & a single piston variant. Nate did a whole lot of mods & improvements to this compressor that was really interesting & is doable with budget tooling. So it maybe the same benefits could be performed on other brands or re brands as a lot of the bits are standardized. He made his own manifold but if Air on board sells them I might forego the skill practice involved. I wish I had of know of Air onboard, their gear looks not too bad. I can't wait to be able to pump up my inflatable flamingo floatie! If I get dual tyre inflator, I will have to go & buy a 2nd flamingo & then I will be over my GVM. ...Just like every one else! That was a neat install Patrick!
Having run a tank in the past, not sure it's worth the space and weight. Honestly makes very little difference unless you're running full air suspension. Seems like the budget alternative would be to have your original compressor wired in the boot (where you already have 12 volt). Then buy a cheap extension hose, so you neither have to open the bonnet, plug it in, or move it to each tyre -- which were the only parts that seemed cumbersome and time consuming. (And a $15 water trap from Bunnings would capture more condensation.) Still, great video.
Yeah I was going to originally try and use my old compressor, but it was originally my dad's so I gave it back to him, but you could definitely use it and make this setup on the cheap! Cheers for the comment!
The tank won't help remove humidity once it gets hot, which will happen relativly quickly with such a small tank. Install a cooler between the tank & compressor, and/or a water seperator after the tank.

@@AussieArvos thanks legend!
Was going to ask same question 👌
Could you use air-tools? (Effortless tire change)
Hi from South Africa!
Quick question on your drawer system... Is 3 drawers overkill for medium length trips? Considering I camp with a normal tent and need to carry a medium size ground tent instead of a rrt.
Thanks again for another mod I'll be installing in the future!
should have ran air lines to each wheel!
Sweet…that's what my 1986 Pontiac 6000 had 8)
Pricing for their basic unit is really good
Great vid, very informative. Thanks
The idea is not bad at all. But when using that to run lockers it would be very different story. For budget it is good for its purpose. Quick & fast it’s still the ARB twin, again like I said budget speaks. Please extend the gauge away from the manifold, for easier to read. Anyway Great video lads.
arb blow up..chinese crap..i use alloy extinguishers, x 3, fillat servo or with comp. does 35,s in 4 mins..no noise..
Awesome video,
can i ask what water jerry can and what taps your using? been searching for a combination that does not leak from round the taps and where the taps can be done up tight without facing the wrong way.
Cheers
Hi Stackner! i use the POPE ones from bunnings ! they are awesome!! never had an issue with them, you can use them without undoing the tap itself!
@Aussie Arvos awesome. Thanks mate.
What rear bar with spare wheel holder are you running
Good video 👍
Have you done a test on tires yet? Be interesting to know how long it takes to fill a tire.
dont bother,,get a power tank from u.s. same price as arb twin comp bs..
Nice setup mate. Safe travels
Thanks craig!
Hi, i live in Brazil and would love if you can help me where to find this kit in the Internet in order to buy it and replicate exactly what you did
Great vid! How do you rate the tuff terrain inflate/deflate? I've been considering buying one. Thanks
Yeah, it's been a great unit so far, had no issues with it. love the quick connect tyre chucks.
Aslong as your happy to carry the hoses it comes with, it's a good unit.
@@AussieArvos perfect thanks for the feedback. Keep up the great videos 🙌
AOB Great gear and good guys 🚙🚙🚙🚙
I have no idea how much a small tank costs but I reckon you could mod one of those small helium tanks they sell at Big W.
fire extinguishers, alloy,,i use 3 of them, no probs, 4 tires, 35,s. fill at servo, 65psi +
Would this compressor setup off the dual battery alone be able to inflate and use an air jack?
Yep
How long does it take to fill 33's? Say from 15psi to 40psi?
Boys, great stuff as always.
Thanks Bob!
Another great video guys, thanks
Thanks Mick!!
How’s this kit gone for you?
I’ve got a Hilux with minimal space, so was going to go with the smaller single ARB compressor because of size. But I’m in Wdyte so these guys are super close.
Do they do installs as well? Doesn’t say anything on their website.
Cheers
Been going great man! no leaks, no issues! not sure about installs, you'd have to ask :)
From where that switch ? (like OEM style)
Hey mate, great idea! Just a quick question, do you know how much this setup weighs?
did you have breakfast or a sht, or invite a freind, wife,,does weight matter..?????.... look up 4x4 power tank,,arb are sht..
I have the compressor but none of the other bits. Is it possible to buy a tank etc separately?
yep! check out their website
Don't forget to mention, you can inflate your Blowup dolls on the go!!
bloody brilliant!
fantastic definitly will be getting this and getting rid of the fire hazard that is my kings thumper
That kings thumper is not really a fire hazard...they're the same basic design. Can put a pressure switch on it and all that
@@mrmotofy the extreme heat it emits when I pump up one tyre says otherwise.
@@jakecarpenter11 That's the Dual cylinder 300L right? There must be something wrong with it
Can I ask where you got the switches that fit the centre console?
Air on board, they do heaps of switches, and can make custom ones to have whatever you want on them
Top set up mate 👍
Cheers John!
Great vid mate
This is why I just bought a M18 Milwaukee inflator. Set and forget
Sloooooooow
Thinking I might have to do something like this when I get ‘round to doing my rear drawer setup in my Prado 150 - this is sick, though I like my Kings Crap Double Thumper air compressor, so I might keep it if I choose to do this air setup.
Yeah man, good thing about this is you can really do it however you like !!
What app did you use for checking decibels?
Just a app called sound meter
Hey @aussiearvo. Can you send a link to the system you installed. Cheers
Here you go! www.aironboard.com.au/store/12-volt-200psi-compressor-and-4-litre-tank-universal-full-system.html
Or just install 2 small Anderson plugs on the front and rear of the vehicle and plug then portable compressor straight in
Beauty!
New sticker on the left hand sliding rear windows the we haven't seen before.
The sticker of the car? Yeah I actually got sent them by a guy on Instagram called Straya customs, he drew my car and sent me out the stickers!
The tank won't help remove humidity once it gets hot, which will happen relativly quickly with such a small tank.
Install a cooler between the tank & compressor, and/or a water seperator after the tank.
Btw the text on screen says quite when you said quiet.
