I installed a PUMA 3/4hp, 12VDC, 135psi compressor on my 2006 GMC 2500HD about 8 years ago. Its installed inside the frame rail under left rear door. Installed the same compressor under the hood of our 2001 Jeep Wrangler. Got them off ebay for about $250. (350 now) comes with 1.5gal tank and all the controls. I use it for air bags, airing up my 80psi truck and trailer tires and can run impact gun as well. Crazy durable with 100% run time. Airs from 0 to 135 psi cutoff in less than one min and airs up empty truck tire in about 3 min. It will work on ANY age truck. I keep a 50ft hose and accessories behind the rear seat.
As for the video, when you have the 110v power available like that, a portable 110v is a good idea.
I have the M18 inflator with the LockNFlate (open) air chuck on it. That makes the Milwaukee a game changer. It required an adapter but that schrader connection wasnt doing it for me. It goes on every trip and i use it in my garage. It can easily inflate a tire to 80psi and it's super portable. So much easier than dragging a hose around the garage.
Another great video JD.
I have the bigger version of that compressor, it works awesome but I use it primarily for construction stuff
Nice truck, I just bought 350 srw 2024 platinum. You need to put paint protection on front end to protect that paint from rock chips. Always enjoy your videos
Thanks for the tip
Hey JD. We have 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD LTZ dually but it doesn't have even haveva 7 pin connection in the bed. So we bought a 2.5 gallon Dewalt 20v battry only air compressor. It works great plus we can charge the batteries in the cab of the truck while we travel since there is a 120v outlet in there. Good idea on the Dewalt compressor for your F450.
Onboard air compressors are great for if a semi has a busted compressor and needs the air brakes filled, among other things.
We need a BTBRV tshirt with POV view of your hand with the “three finger” point. Pinkie, index, thumb.
That 1gal Dewalt is same one I bought. Works great and is small enough to fit under dinette in my small Class C.
love dewalt and millwaki as well. I bought the cheap 12volt compressor from walmart. I also purchase a 12v extension cable from Amazon sometime the connection works loose. Works good for my load range E (3/4 van) and D (dump trailer) as well as my Base Camp and 1 ton trailer. Inexpensive alternative.
My F150 Powerboost has a 7200 watt onboard generator. I can run my camper with AC and my home with a transfer switch. This trucks capabilities are endless! I like the small dewalt air compressor.
I've had the VIAIR 300P for many years, which is a 12v alligator style tankless air compressor rated at 150PSI. I haven't considered it until watching this video but you got me thinking about using my 30AMP upfitter switch to either hard wire it or add a quick connect in the bed of my truck. I like that Dewalt but it's pretty bulky to carry around for camping trips.
Very good review of the air compressor. I’m curious to find out how long it takes to fill a G rated RV tire to 110 psi. I like the Viair air compressor because it went to 200 psi but the drawback is having to hard plum everything as you explained.
I have the $100 cordless Dewalt air compressor as it outstanding in my opinion. It will fill truck and RV tires, rafts, kayaks, pool toys and whatever you need. It’s a perfect affordable option if you’re on the Dewalt battery platform. However, if you need a gallon of air, then you’re new compressor is probably the best value out there.
Is it getting to 80psi?
@@joshuapaul349 The Amazon description states 290psi which is obviously wrong and, Home Depot description says 160psi, also probably wrong. I’d look on Dewalt site, but believe it’s 120psi, maybe more. Can’t remember, but it fills my large SUV tires in a minute or two to 35psi. It’s not real fast, but you set the psi you want, push start and it shuts off once it hits your psi setting.
@@951WoodworkDesigns-bx4kn I have a scuba tank, I think I'm just going to put a valve and a quick connect on it and use that.
@@joshuapaul349I know I've gone to 65psi, can't recall if I have filled one up to 80 with it, but I don't doubt it would do it
It's nice to have the outlet in the box. It was not in my 2022 F350 Lariat Tremor
I run ViAir EVC88P in my Wife's Jeep and I have the 88P in my truck meets my needs perfectly and the EVC has a digital screen you set the desired Air Pressure and it does it automatically. I spent about $150 for the pair, and trust me the EVC has already paid for itself within the first month of ownership, when the weather was cooler all the girls and my wife's work needed their tires inflated because of low tire pressure warning lights 5 vehicles later, now three out of the five girls all have the same air compressor in their vehicles.
I’ve had a 1 gallon 150 psi viair compressor on my Tacoma since 2018. I use it to air up after trails and my train horn. Has been solid 🤙 ford should add the power boost feature to the super duty’s
That is Outstanding!
You buy adapters for the Milwaukee 18V Tire Inflater from Lock-n-Lube
Now get yourself a K5LA and never have an issue with drivers ahead of ya again!
You should consider the Flexzilla hose reel to mount in your truck for those times you don’t want to dig it out from under the toolbox.
Separate question. Is this bed ready to go for B&W drop in ball? I’m also a big fan of goose neck, and looking to buy last truck. I like the B&W in/out set up! Thanks JD! Keep up the great content!
Great idea
Nice, I like it.
I prefer onboard air systems. It cost more and is more work. But it's always there and tucked under the truck on the frame. So it's not cutting into usable cargo space. I have 8 gallons of air at 175 psi with dual compressors. I have quick connect couplers in each corner of the bumper. I have a couple of portable compressors for work. But I wouldn't want to haul them around in the bed all the time. Especially on trips when cargo space can be limited. Having any air compressor on road trips especially while towing is good practice though.
Cool product. I remember you doing a review on the handheld Dewalt battery air compressor. I had seen a guy at work use one of those and he liked it. I haven’t seen it at the store as of yet. My truck is too old as I don’t have outlets in it, but is it safe to assume that it can be used with any one of those 12V to electric outlet converters?
JD, I have a ViAir that I had with my last class A have ordered a F450 and plan on using it as I have it. Difference is the ViAir goes to 150 psi which was needed on the 22.5” tires on the class A. This is a great idea if I didn’t have the other. I hope that I can power it off of the switches in the truck.
Doesn’t a class A have air brakes?
@@servicetrucker5564 yes, but I found the ViAir works better than the onboard unit
@@walterrafolski5662 Works better that an engine driven compressor? How much air do use?
@@servicetrucker5564 120 on steer axle
I have a 2019 F250 with the 400 watt inverter. Will this run on this inverter and will it inflate tires to 80 PSI?
Curious does it work on the GMC ?
You're an evil man showing me things to buy lol! It would be cool to see if it worked in your GMC, just to see if there is a initial surge to get it going.
Curious about that breakaway cable in the bed. I have always been told to not disconnect it from the trailer as it will possibly burn out the brakes and drain the trailer battery?
Oh, that's just an extension cable.
Maybe I'm just one of the bitter poors, but i like the projects and accessories that don't require a $100k truck as a foundation to function. Show me some stuff that'll help out my 20 year old truck.
Nothing to do with wealth. More to do with what people are looking for my friend
You have come to the wrong channel.
Aways one in the crowd.
On board air systems can be done fairly cheaply even on older rigs depending on what you want to do with them. IIRC JD even has a couple videos on them from his old truck. And if you don't want to go that far with a hardwire setup, you could even snag an inverter and build your own 110AC setup in the bed if your current truck.
As one of your fellow poors, this seems like a pricey way to run a compressor. Lol
Air compressor will come in hand for emergencies or for fun
Gotta inflate that air bed for in the woods -activities-😏
Ryobi battery operated compressor,
Good morning friends
Can't hear you ,no sound
Not a fan of letting a modern diesel sit and idle to get the generator to run. Idling is the death of modern diesel’s emissions systems.
