Kyle, you’re a great guide. It’s been an an interesting process seeing Chau open up to all these new experiences, things she’s never seen and done before. She almost reminds me a bit of myself when I went on my first solo Europe trip in 2018, and my first solo trip ever. Because I knew there was a good chance my mom would freak out if she knew beforehand, I literally went on my own and told her only after I arrived at my first stop, which was England.
I certainly didn’t have as good of a guide as I did, in a strange new continent, with people, cultures and norms that were mostly unfamiliar to the Chinese / Canadian experience I grew up with.
Chau seems to get bolder and more confident over time, but what I like about her is that she’s far more adventurous and open-minded than I was when I first started traveling on my own.
In your most recent videos, it’s like you brought new life, and a new world to her. Almost a complete 180 from the first video where you two were in Nuremberg.
What I think really “sealed the deal” for her deciding to embrace being with you and sharing these adventures with you was VN. That was the turning point.
What style of hotpot did you have? It looked Chinese but not Sichuanese. I’d like you two to have Sichuanese hotpot on camera one of these days, lol. My family’s from there and it can still be pretty brutal.
