I am so glad to see this American folk culture still being taught. In about 1970, I learned a little in my public school in Redondo Beach, CA (Los Angeles County) in my 4th and 5th grade classes. Every class room had a record player and a piano then. The teacher would do the calls.
Eight years of public school, all I learned was waiting in line and square dancing. I have avoided waiting in line and never had a chance to Square dance. Those children do it better than we did.
