I wouldn't advise anyone coming from the west to look for a job here if it's not listed by the government as a scarce skill, rather get an online job from a company in the west and move with it here.
South Africa is very modernized it just depends on the area. Me and my family moved to South Africa and we have all found a way to get money. You just have to be prepared.

Amazing, that Midrand has developed so fast.In the early 2000s, it was just farmlands, we used to call it Halfway House. There were lots of hamlets or small scale farming for live stock mainly goats and sheep, chicken as well as citrus trees. In the 1980s, Khalami and Halfway, was largely inhabited by English farmers, December holidays, we used to go as far as Khayalami to pick up fruits so that we could sell in the nearest township, Tembisa. At times buy sheep for slaughtering or buy milk, as there were small dairy producers. A lot has changed since the early 2000, the real estate market worth billions of Rands. And it is the fastest developing in the City of Joburg.
I could be wrong but from what I know, you can buy either an empty plot or an already built house. The architecture firm is the same though so even if you buy an empty plot and get something designed to fit your needs it will still be the same style as the rest of the estate. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong
