WalMart (Great Value) store brand is usually made by major companies that package them as "Great Value" specifically for WalMart. A LOT of the stuff they have are as good if not better than some of the "name" brands, and yes a LITTLE cheaper.
Yes, their Creamy Chedder Mac and Cheese in the orange box is a go to for me.
Same with Kirkland at Costco and Trader Joe’s.

Have you tried the personal sized frozen lasagna's? I get the meat lovers and it's so good! Even the cheese is melty - unlike other brands I've tried. It takes great and it's just under $4.00 for a quite decent portion.

My Husband here in America use to work for Khee he went around to his district and sold Knorr to these stores. So Knorr is a universal product. Love From Michigan and it's a beautiful evening ❤️ ❤
I don't think I've ever tried Great Value mac and cheese. I definitely wouldn't guess that it's better than Cracker Barrel. Now I must try it!

The biggest difference in these Mac n Cheeses is the U.S. versions are loaded with the chemicals they don’t allow in the Swedish brands. I appreciate that your country cares about what you eat without getting poisoned by it, unlike the U.S. who cares little about our health here.
I learned to make Mac & cheese at 12yrs old in home economics class. Gotta teach you, easy and delicious! 2 tbsp butter, 2 tbsp flour you make a rue then add 2 cups whole milk- boil. Stir while thickens, turn off heat add 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese one cup at a time. Stir until melted. Put 2 cups elbow macaroni into 6 cups lightly salted water boil until done. Drain, mix in cheese sauce. Pour into baking dish and add some small slices of cheese on top. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Voila! Homemade Mac & cheese 😊 Another, Not a Cooking Show video ❤❤❤

That was fun! Enjoyable hearing Carol, behind the camera, wearing her 'director's' hat. You two really have the production down.
Now that you can look ahead to your new place, my 'interior designer/decorator/landscaper' brain has been busy making changes to the rooms, planning the gardens, etc. LOL Depending on how warm the 'basement' is, could see Carol having a 'seed starter' room so her veggie, flower, etc plants would be ready for the ground once the threat of frost/freeze has passed. Gonna be exciting! 😊
I have an idea for you guys. Go to your favorite grocery store, talk to the store manager, and ask them if they would consider ordering a few items that you think would be popular and sell well in the store. The reason for the lack of choices could be as simple as it never occurred to them. You can tell them about all the foods and spices you have tried and how these can be used in everyday Swedish dishes. It's just a thought, and it wouldn't hurt to ask. ☺

Yes you're right great value is the Walmart brand
As with all box mixes, it is a start. You can always add spices and more cheese to the product. You can take your mac and cheese, cook it and then transfer it to a baking dish. Add veg. (we like broccoli) add cooked chicken (any protean works) and add more cheese and top with panko bread and bake. You may need to add liquid - milk, butter, sour cream or cream cheese. Instead of panko, you can use potato chips, corn chips or even corn flakes. Be creative!!
Kraft, Great Value, and Cracker Barrell need to send pallets of their Mac and Cheese boxes to random towns across Sweden as care packages.
Cracker Barrel, Kraft, are national brands been around decades. Walmart has been coping major brands for years, usually not quite as good but price always cheaper. 🇺🇸😀💙
💙🇺🇲 Didn't see how you cooked the swedish mac & cheese so the way i do it is per instructions:
Carefully pull back lid and pour boiling water (from tea kettle) up to the inside line, cover back up and place a weighted object like a very small plate on top of the lid to better hold in the steam. Wait 3 minutes remove carefully the hot plate and stir. Also, before adding the boiling water to the cup i stir up the dry ingredients for better distributions & than add the boiling water. When time is up stir and enjoy (hopefully).🤪

Hi from another Carol! The Cracker Barrel Mac and Cheese is made by Kraft using the brand ,Cracker Barrel's cheese. It is a brand of cheese that I always use when I make my own mac and cheese along with the brand, Cabot cheese. They both make extra sharp and seriously sharp cheddar cheeses. They both produce other kinds of cheeses, too, like swiss, colby jack and mild cheddar.
Moa adds a silent "cheese' smile & meow.
Walmart is Great Brand and they are packed just for them $2.38(25.23 krona) for the box and Cracker Barrel is $3.99(42.30 krona) I think you like the Great Value because of the shells pasta (thin & saltier; great with tomatoes sauce)vs elbow(small but thick) vs penna(thick & used with creamer food to into pasta) .. my opinion, great value.

Cracker Barrel cheese in general is great! Yes, Great Value is the Walmart house brand. Sometimes the store brand products are better than the "national" brands so when you can find something that's cheaper and tastes the same or better, it's always a win!

If you want to make decent Macaroni and cheese, Buy macaroni noodles, boil about 1 and 1/2 cups of macaroni cook on medium high heat until tender, drain the water. Put back on the stove. On medium heat, add around 1/4 to 1/2 cup of milk or (canned cream.) Add 1/2 stick of butter (as much as you like). Add in around 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese to your liking. (Taste as you go.) Stirring consistently so it doesn’t burn. Salt and Pepper to taste.

Cracker barrel mac and cheese is not from the restaurant. It is a type of cheese that the Kraft food company invented back in 1954.
I like sautéing some meat to put in with the mac & cheese. Ground beef, chopped chicken, pork chops and even hotdogs are all really good. I also use mayonnaise instead of milk with the powdered mac & cheese.
Don’t be surprised about great value or any of the store brands because they are all produced by national brands. They just get a rebate because they just take the product and then put it out as their own something sort of insiders know about that I think most people do know about that.
Our cat loved to eliminate the "middle mouse" and eat the cheese herself.
If you like catsup on French fries or Cheeseburgers then I highly recommend it as a topping on mac n' cheese as well. Yum!
We have some Knorr products over here. I like their beef stroganoff and sour cream and chives pasta. We also use Knorr recipe mixes like spinach-artichoke dip. 🤠

Cracker Barrel is a special selection of cheeses made by craft, and has been around much longer than the restaurant, which is not connected in any way. Kraft has several versions of packaged Mac and Cheese, with Cracker Barrel being the top tier. Then there's Velveeta Shells and Cheese, which is very artificial tasting and kids love it. The most fake one is made with a powdered cheese packet and you had milk and butter to the sauce mix and macaroni and stir until it's all combined. Kids love that one, too. I think there is another Kraft mac and cheese, called, Kraft Deluxe Mac and Cheese and it has the "squeezy cheese," packets, too, but it's more American cheese than cheddar.
I like adding a little butter to the processed mac and cheese just to make it a little more creamy.

the difference between a name brand (Kraft, Cracker Barrel, etc.) and a store brand (Great Value, etc.) is the container does not have the name which saves cost
most if not all of the store brands are made on the same line as the name brand and can even use the exact same recipes (tho you will never know)

Great Value is Walmart brand, and is normally considered a cheaper brand. All Great Value brands are made by a one of the major companies in the US and Walmart just puts their Great Value on the package. You just don't know which major company makes it, but can be fairly certain that it is going to be good. I buy Great Value items all the time. Cheaper and just as good as a major brand. Again, we really enjoyed your "It's Not a Cooking Show". Recky you are getting very good at this. When you get into that new kitchen in the new house, you are going to do even better (with Carol as the amazing director), and you may have to change it to "It just Might be a Cooking Show". When I'm broke and have to buy the super cheap Mac&Cheese I add stuff to it. I always keep plain cream cheese and cheese slices on hand and I add a tablespoon of cream cheese for creaminess and a slice or two of chesse for cheesiness. I do not like the powered cheese at all. I don't even add it. To make it a meal I cook up some hamburger meat with Bell Peppers and diced onion and garlic power and add it to my Mac&Cheese. It's my homemade verson of Hamburger Helper. My kids loved it and their kids do too. Great show! Thank you. It's always good to see y'all. Can't wait to see the first "Not A Cooking Show " in your new kitchen! God Bless❤

I'm surprised someone sent the Great Value Italian Five Cheese. I would have though they would go for the Loaded Bacon Cheddar (for Recky) and/or the Creamy Jalapeño Bacon (for Carol) or both. Someone make it happen! 😁👍🏼

The Great Value one you tried is from their "Artisan" version of man n cheese. They are a higher quality product than the standard Mac n cheese they sell and a bit more expensive as well. They also have a smoked gouda Mac n cheese that I liked.
Yes, Great value is a walmart brand. It’s generic food, but it’s usually pretty good and considerably cheaper than major name brands.
Velveeta and Kraft would be the major brands to try.. Velveeta has a cheese packet and the Kraft is a dry powder but you add butter and milk. We have Knorr here but its mostly dry soups. the chicken noodle is described as water noodles and a chicken walked through it.
Great Value Lasagna is my favorite. I moved from Stouffers. Still use Stouffers stuffed peppers.
I will say that when it comes to the cheap Mac & Cheese boxes in the US I have always found that the three cheeses ones taste the best, since they actually have a flavor. I LOVE the US Knorr’s three cheeses packet. Yet, I prefer the creamy cheese packet for box mac & cheese over the powered kinds and I don’t know if I’m putting too much water or they are just going to be watery period.
Walmart has 2 in-house brands of food….Great Value and Sam’s Best. Both are awesome!
You should find a recipe and make a baked mac and cheese....They are the best and blow the boxed versions out of the water....
I'm not a fan of boxed mac and cheese. Probably because I'm not a big pasta fan. But, I good HOMEMADE BAKED Mac and cheese, I'm there! I like a good potato casserole also!

the Knorr here has to mush water too. I cook my Knorr in a pan I add less water. you can make Mac and Cheese with just abut any cheese.

Mac & cheese has become an American dish but started as French haute cuisine (high cooking/upper classic dish) Thomas Jefferson was the first US ambassador to France and he took his enslaved cook John Hemmings (Sally's brother) to France and whilst there John became a master French chef. Because slavery was illegal in France, Jefferson had to pay both John & Sally. When Jefferson was recalled to the states, John decided to stay. Jefferson asked John to return to teach the staff at Monticello thr art of French cuisine & he would be granted freedom. John came back and brought back the recipe for mac & cheese and Americanized it by substituting some ingredients with things readily available in Virginia. It was a hit and everyone who dined at Jefferson's house sent their cook to learn the recipe. That folks is how an upper class French dish became an American staple.

Despite the same name and spelling, Cracker Barrel restaurant (which started in 1969) and Cracker Barrel cheese ( first came out in 1955) are totally unrelated. The latter is owned by Kraft Foods. Though it wouldn't surprise us if the Cracker Barrel Old Country Store had a cheese brand, Kraft Foods makes sure to confirm that there is no connection to the two.
As far as I know the Cracker Barrel M&C is made by Cracker Barrel Restaurant chain (but I could be wrong, I'm old 🤬).

The logo is different. We have a brand of cheese named Cracker Barrel that's totally seperate from the restaurant.

Cracker Barrel cheeses (and mac and cheese) are not associated with Cracker Barrel restaurant. Cracker Barrel mac and cheese is my favorite boxed dinner of that sort. I like the regular recipe Kraft mac and cheese cups as a quick microwaveable snack at times.
I've not seen Knorr cups of pasta but we have a lot of pouch varieties that we cook on the stovetop. Those are okay.

You're right about Cracker Barrel. There is a restaurant named Cracker Barrel but we also have a brand of cheese named Cracker Barrel (I know them for having "blocks" of cheese - uncut portions we cut ourselves. I don't know if they sell pre-shredded bags of cheese). They are two different companies.
In Canada, Cracker Barrel sells bags of shredded cheese. As a relatively inexpensive cheese brand, Cracker Barrel is my favourite

At the risk of your subscribers kicking me off your channel (LOL), I buy Kraft's blue box mac N cheese. After mixing when done and drained (I use 1/4 cup butter and 1/4 cup milk and salt in the water, like I was brought up to make back in the 70's & 80's, and they changed it for the modern day way of losing most of the goodness in foods by cutting way back on flavor), I cut up beef wieners into small pieces and pour in the wieners. Mix well. I don't eat with much salt anymore, but salt will give it great flavor, so I use it here. Scoop in four paper bowls. Give three bowls to my three big, spoiled brats of dogs and one bowl for myself. Homemade m & c is too goppie (my own word). M&C in frozen dinners also I dislike. Now, am I kicked off???
