George Brett was a DAWG🔥🔥
As a Yankee fan for 45 years I have the utmost respect for Brett. He was one of the most clutch hitters of all time and one of the last guys I wanted to see in the batter's box against the Yankees. Other than the Red Sox the Royals were the Yankees most bitter and intense rivals from the mid 70s to early 80s. I grew up watching channel 11 here in New York and even though Brett got us so many times he still was one of my favorite opposing players. One of the greatest hitters baseball has ever seen.
The best lefty of all time
My favorite player and I am a Yankees fan from NYC. How could I hate this man? He was, to me, the Greatest.
Never knew much about George Brett, but seems like an all-around great ball player and solid guy.
I was 8 years old when George hit the 3 homers against the Yankees in 78 and he instantly became my lifelong baseball hero. Watching that game on TV in Pittsburgh with all those great Pirates players and a KC Royal became my hero because I hated the Yankees and he was killing them. I just wish they could've beat those damn Yankees before 1980!! He's still my favorite player ever!! Great video!
Thank you my friend...glad you enjoyed it and yes I love Brett too, my favorite player also. The ultimate Yankee killer!!
Brett was the epitome of a "Yankee killer" if there ever was one. The Royals/Yankees series between 75-85, were some of the best baseball I have ever seen.
Loved those series then, you know it was intense when it for a time became the most heated rivalry in baseball during those years.
I was just thinking that n read ur comment
Brett was old by the time I was coming up and I'd always heard what a legend he was and thought it was a shame I didn't get to watch him while he was great, thought his career was winding down. And I STILL got to watch him win a batting title in 1990 at age 37 and I remember watching him record his 3000th hit. The guy had one of the prettiest swings ever. Clutch as hell and a damn fine 3rd baseman. Hall of famer all around.
Like you said his swing was a thing of beauty...never ever got tired of watching him come up to the plate.
Brett was a real player! A real true Yankee hater and he was not afraid to say it. He never really liked the Yankees and played his heart out against them. A true competitor who never backed down. All Star Hall Of Famer 🌟
He certainly had a lot of reasons to hate the Yankees as most baseball fans do...so glad he was able to back it up and take the Royals to two World Series
Only hitter i was ever scared of, coming up against the Yankees. Lots of stuff, in this video, shows why. A true gamer, deserving of every praise.
George Brett was so good in the post season. He's the top 5 all time clutch hitter in my opinion! Hard to think of anyone I'd rather have at the plate!
Top 5 in my book too; he was just so damn good!
G Brett was indeed,Yankee killer during his playing career I remember that huge HR in 1980 ALCS game 3 at Yankee Staduim.THat game finnaly put KC Royals in World Series ending NY Yankees dominance over them
I hope someday we can get back to the days of Brett great entertainment.....
He certainly was; you never wanted to miss it when he was up to bat.
Them days are long long. Steroids helped ruin it too.
A proper old school Major Leaguer. I was a big Yankees fan as a kid during this era, but I secretly loved George Brett too!
This man did more damage to the Yankees than the rebel army
That is an excellent analogy my friend
Loved the way he Cadillac around the bases on the moonshot homer off Gossage.
Year after year, Brett was a MONSTER in the ALCS.
Not too shabby in the World Series, either 😊
Greatest hitter in ALCS history; a one man wrecking machine
Bread swing is so beautiful I forgot about this stuff so glad I can remember when these things happen as I'm listening to them go royals
Brett was one of the greatest hitters of all time. He hit for average and power too. A great overall baseball player!!! 👍👍👍👍👍
Wearing NO GLOVES!
My dad was just telling me about the pinetar incident so I had to look it up
Forever. For. Presidente.
Brett went in hard...sliding is hard...
Announcers always hated KC
It was such a thrill to grow up in Kansas City and be able to watch George play. Some many great times and wonderful memories that won't be forgotten.
I saw him hit 4 absolute ropes in Milwaukee late August 1980. He finished the game over .410. Standing O from the crowd. Also in ballpark for Aaron #713. Those moments will always be with me.
Absolutely legend 🌟✊
Ultimate clutch player. Impossible to get out in a big spot.
yeah he was such an incredible clutch hitter
Brett was the best.
He certainly was
What a beauty
I loved his batting stance....BIGTIME IN THE CLUTCH.....
Greatest clutch hitter in AL playoffs history
Charlie Lau taught Brett to be the great hitter he was
Lau certainly was a legendary hitting coach
A pitcher could not...repeat NOT...blow a fast ball by George Brett,
Goose Gossage certainly found that out the hard way
The best era of baseball right here. Things were so much more exciting when George was around. I always will respected him for representing Kansas City.
Greatest Royal ever and greatest 3rd basemen ever.
Great clutch player!!! Take him over Jeter ANY day
Wow, the crystal clear video on all of these highlights is awesome. George Brett was one of the best clutch hitters ever especially on the games biggest stage... the postseason. In 40 career ALCS & World Series games combined... Brett was 54 for 154, .351 average, 10 home runs, 23 RBI, 30 runs, .662 slugging pct., and a .413 on base pct. Brett is one of four players in MLB history to accumulate 3,000 hits, 300 home runs, and a career .300 batting average (the others are Stan Musial, Willie Mays, and Hank Aaron).
Thanks Man; he is my favorite player of all-time alongside Willie Mays. I always tell people he was the greatest clutch hitter in ALCS history and greatest 3rd baseman ever, sorry Mike Schmidt and Brooks Robinson.
One thing missing here is his game 3 performance in the 1985 ALCS which Brett says is his greatest game he ever played. As I am sure you know, he was 4 for 4 with 2 home runs in a must win game for KC.
I sure do recall, down 2 games to none; Brett throwing the runner out at home. A one man gang, climb on my back boys. I don't recall why I don't have that in the video or if I have it in my greatest plays in Royals history video or not.
Yeah I know, some people basically outright just copy some peoples videos. What ya gonna do
The odd thing about his homerun swing is that it always looks like a routine pop up.
I think most people probably think the same way I do, whether I was watching him on TV or in person his swing was a thing of beauty!
George Brett was a classic.
Yes he was....loved watching that man play
I love this guy he held the Yankees in check
The ultimate Yankee killer
George Brett was my boyhood hero growing up in Arvade Colorado. I could get the Royals games from Lexyton NB and would listen to Royals baseball at 10 years old. I learned how to do math averages for batting average. I used to go to Gardner Ks to visit my grandparents for a summer spell of week or two and get one Royals gm. Best time of my noyhhod life,. Thank you George Brett it was magic. ☺
+Kenneth Mattison Willie Mays was my boyhood favorite, but I fell in love with Brett as a teenager and he became my favorite player. I became a lifelong Royals fan after that. I only got to see George play one time in person at a Twins- Royals game at the Metrodome in 87. Of course George hit a 3 run home run to lift the Royals to victory. He was just fun to watch.
My favorite of all time and sweetest seeing ever
He was so fun to watch and he sure did have a beautiful swing
loved those 70's and 80's royals teams, 6 division titles in 10 years. 2 world series, a couple wins against the yankees and we're talking about a serious dynasty, they were that close. george was the center piece of that run, some great players around him, a team built for astroturf, built around speed, gap hitting, and great defense up the middle. they were exciting.
Loved loved loved watching those teams...that was real baseball...not this crap now where someone hits a homerun, then everybody strikes out or maybe gets a walk until maybe an hour later and somebody else hits another homer. Lot more variety and action in the game, they were a treat to watch
@@onrywaymore104 agree, strike outs and home runs... how boring, and on top of that the game takes forever, i've seen teams like tampa bay use 8 or 9 pitchers in a 9 inning game. and it really burned them when kevin cash took out blake snell in the 6th inning of game 6 this year, snell in 5.1 innings had 9 strike outs, gave up 2 hits and hadn't walked a batter... yep, better take him out he's thrown 73 pitches... and los angeles dodger manager dave roberts will take you out even if you've got a no hitter going, he's done it twice!
two things that drive me nuts about todays game, 1) strike outs with runners in scoring position, guy hits a double to lead off, next two guys strike out trying to hit a home run, and the 3rd guy grounds out. 2) relief pitchers comes in and walks the first batter in a tight game, that guy scores and the game is tied or they take the lead. they can throw 97 but don't have a clue about what they're doing out there.
@@tomitstube That was so stupid to take Snell out of the game...good-bye World Series.....I agree the games take way too long...bring back Jim Palmer pitching to Clemente...both studs saying on the mound ..staying in the batters box...bring it on and may the better man win
Royals win Pine Tar Game!
Brett is the all-time leader in Royals history in all offensive categories except stolen bases. It's pretty easy to guess who the all-time Royals leader in stolen bases since he was part of the Royals' nucleus and leadoff hitter from the late 1970s to the 1980s: Wilie Wilson.
He was the greatest...God I loved watching him play....Mr. Clutch if there ever was one.
Great ballplayer… Brett in the AL and Mike Schmidt in the NL… Two of the great ones… When George Brett made his run at hitting .400… His dad told him you couldn’t come up with six more hits? LOL
I've been a braves fan since 90. Brett was and still is my favorite player EVER! Was fortunate to be a Royals fan from '84 till Brett retired. My second favorite is Chopper Jones. Watched his entire career. Both Hall of Fame third basemen.
Chipper Jones was a very good 3rd basemen. Still a Royals fan also rooted for the Red Sox for decades, they always had a great bunch of characters, but they are basically the Yankees now.
@@onrywaymore104 yeah, I know. I rooted for the Sox in 04. I'm a National League fan for life, but I wanted Boston that year.
@@onrywaymore104 hoping to see my Braves repeat 95.
@@onrywaymore104 Watched the Royals win in 85
I've always been an AL fan and definitely rooted for the Sox in 04; that was so great watching them come back down 0-3 to beat the Yankees.
Buen. Jugador. George. Breet. Número. Uno.
When you best rivers, mark it on the calendar,,you probably crushed it!
George Brett didn't hit that many home runs in the regular season, but come postseason time and he was a monster. After he played his last postseason game in 1985, he was the all-time AL Championship Series leader in BOTH home runs AND triples.
In 1980, Brett did win the AL MVP but the Gold Glove wasn't won that year but in 1985, when he led the Royals to the World Series title. He was a monster in the ALCS then versus the Blue Jays, leading them to victory after they were down 2-0 and 3-1 in the series. His Game 3 was particularly memorable, as he went 4 for 4 with 2 home runs and 4 runs scored and made some great defensive plays. The Toronto manager simply said after that ALCS: "Too much Brett."
In Game 7 of the World Series, he had 4 hits as the Royals also came back from 3-1 down.
For third basemen, I would take him over Mike Schmidt due to his continued success in every postseason series he played in.
I think that is a misconception that Brett didn't hit many regular season Hr's. He is the Royals all time leader with 317, nobody else has even 200, that's quite a few playing in cavernous Royals stadium. With his beautiful left handed swing God on;y knows how many he would of hit say if hitting to the short RF fence at Yankee stadium.
I agree with you; he is the best 3rd basemen off all-time with Schmidt a close second.
One of my all-time favorite players.
Same here, loved watching Brett play and his competitive spirit.
How many kills you got Carlos
The greatest Royal of all-time, greatest third baseman and perhaps the greatest clutch hitter in big games baseball has ever seen.
+mandanhusker24 I know he was so awesome, his swing was a thing of perfection!
Dude relax. Greatest non Yankee in Yankee stadium. George Brett. Maybe Alan trammel, Ken Griffey, Jim rice, dewight Evans. But Brett was the best in Yankee stadium. Brett was not the best third baseman.
+ray bon I'll stand by my opinion; I think George Brett was the greatest 3rd basemen of all-time. Many think Mike Schmidt was, Mike had better power and was a slightly better fielder. George was a significantly better hitter for average and better base runner. Brooks Robinson greatest fielding 3rd baseman off- alltime.
its possible i honestly don't remember. what i do know is brett always batted in the stadium. .400 world class hitter.
+ray bon yeah , he was. I'm biased , of course because George is my favorite player of all-time. Who do you think is the greatest 3rd basemen?
Brett was downright sick in the postseason. Not just a great hitter and bloody good all-round ballplayer; one of the best clutch hitters of all time --
No question; that boy had ice in his veins. One man Yankee killer!
❤George brett&remember his brother I think a pitcher
@@lloydkline6946 He was on Fantasy Island
I will never forget it. I was in my uncle's Volkswagen, we just came back from buying chickens he use to sell chickens before his passing. And, we heard the home run.on the radio, old busted a.m. radio. You can barely
Hear the radio. It was gotten car didn't have an a.c. and you heard Billy Martin coming out. Rest was history...Lloll..
+ray bon Billy Martin coming out, must be talking about the Pine Tar homerun. That was classic. My favorite part is Gaylord Perry running off with the bat because we all know Old Gaylord Perry never tried to cheat in his career. Lol...
Yeah it was some kind of moment. But it ushered in the era we have today of exaggerated exactness vs common sense. At least for me it did...Lloll...
+ray bon Never thought about it like that; you're right though and doesn't seem to matter which sport like the tuck rule in the Raiders-Patriots playoff game.
On'ry Waymore U mean spitball Gaylord ?? Nawwwww 😂
Brett was raising hell to get that bat back so he could hit Billy Martin with it 😂
Our boy Brett didn't need that bat to kick Martin's scrawny little you know what.
Kansas City 🏙️🏞️🏞️🏞️🏞️😅🌆 0:33
I was unaware that he was also a pitcher.
His brother Ken was a fine pitcher in the majors.
George is ambidextrous! We have an annual All Star Game, here, in El Segundo, CA. It's called the "Daily Breeze All Star Game." Area's best high school seniors split into two teams. George pitched. He threw right-handed & left-handed! 1971. Two people have shared this story with me. One, Carl Peternell (RIP) played in the game. As for Ken Brett, George Genovese (RIP), scout with the Giants shared, "Ken Brett, is the greatest baseball player I've ever scouted! He was big, strong, fast! He could field, hit, throw! We wanted to park him in the outfield, but the Red Sox drafted him before us." Kemer, graduated from El Segundo High School in 1966. He was the 4th player picked in the draft. Side note: Scott McGregor was George's teammate at El Segundo in 1970 & 1971. McGregor was voted Player Of The Year in '71 & '72. Not a bad high school club in early '70s. McGregor was the 14th player picked in '72.
when I was growing up Jim rice and Brett was my 2 favorite players
Brett was my favorite. On those Red Sox teams Luis Tiant and Dwight Evans were my favorites.
The homer Brett hit off Gossage in the 80 ALCS may be the hardest hit ball I've ever seen; certainly among them. Gossage commented that is his entire career he never heard a such a loud sound coming from a bat hitting a ball.
He did get all of it. I love his home run trot around the bases, you could tell he was savoring every step after all the heartaches the Yankees had given the Royals in the 70's.
He did round them a bit slower than he usually would have. He once said he could've run around the bases 4 or 5 times, he was so overjoyed.
I do believe Schmidt was the best all-around third baseman in MLB history. I saw him make some defensive plays that were even beyond Brooks. Schmidt was fast like nobody's biz, huge accurate arm. And a damn consistent power hitter who kept improving very late in his career.
People will still be debating Brett vs Schmidt long after I am gone. NL vs AL. leftie vs righty, power vs all-around. Schmidt had the power for sure, and better defensively. Not better than Brooks Robinson defensively though, Brooks was the greatest defensively. Brett better pure hitter, average, better baserunner and clutch hitter.
Steve VanDien ever see what Ron Cey did?
Cmon, you can't compare Ron Cey to George Brett and Mike Schmidt. The penguin was a fine 3rd basemen, but he was not an all-time great.
mandanhusker24 Ron cey may not have been the consistent power hitter Schmidt was but in terms of underrated players and underappreciated players cey wins wins.
I whole heartedly agree.
At the end of the 76 season the Reds offersd Tony Perez in a trade for Brett. It almost happened but KC backed out at the last minute . I loved Tony Perez but ... If they'd gotten Brett the Big Red Machine might have dominated into the 80s. Instead they let Rose and Morgan become free agents , fired Sparky Anderson and traded Perez for Pat Zachry .
Man. that would have sucked if Brett wouldn't have Played his whole marvelous career with the Royals...Thank God that didn't happen.
@@onrywaymore104 I enjoyed watching Brett. KC was always and still is my favorite AL team. But I would have loved to see him doing all that hitting in Cincinnati ! 😸
I'd take prime George Brett over prime Mike Schmidt any day.
According to my poll, 100% of Royals fans named Edward agree with you my friend.
Second that
third that.
Any day of the week
Nope. Schmidt was better. It’s not close
S- straight fuckin water
yes, he is clearly legit
That pine tar call was bologna ...If Martin was so concerned about the pine tar he should have said something before the at bat
It was total BS; he didn't care about the pine tar at all. MLB Network has a doc about Martin and he had this all planned out if there was a great time that he could do it.
impassable even the league said it was BS and they ended up saying the Hr was legal and they had to finish playing the rest of the game which the Royals won
Total BS; it wasn't like the pine tar had anything to do with him hitting the home run unlike the steroid junkies that came along a few years later.
greatest homerun trot
+latteslist I know I love his trot when he hit the 3 run HR of Goose Gossage; he took his own sweet time jogging around the bases, enjoying every moment of it.
Second greatest. Mickey Mantle was first.
How about Schmidt and Brett being drafted back to back in 1971.
I didn't realize that; that is amazing, 2nd round even. The top of that draft was a disaster
And, Brett having one more career RBI than Schmidt! Schmidt, joked, "George is always one-upping me!"
Second only to Schmidt as a third baseman. Might have been the best pure hitter since Ted Williams.
Williams would probably pick Tony Gwynn, but Gwynn could not hit with the power that Brett did. I'll take Mr. Brett.
Holy cow how many huge hits against the Yankees did this guy hit! Unbelievable
More than any other human that has ever walked this planet...that's all i know!
@@onrywaymore104 Ortiz definitely has his fair share as well.
No question, but they are division rivals ...they play all the time.
@@onrywaymore104 good point
Your final bulletpoint is incorrect. I can come up with at least a dozen players to hit over .300 lifetime to go along with 300+ Hrs :
Babe Ruth
Lou Gehrig
Ted Williams
Jimmie Foxx
Stan Musial
Mel Ott
Manny Ramirez (*PEDs)
Hank Greenberg
Frank Thomas
Miguel Cabrera
Willie Mays
George Brett
It's supposed to say "He is one of four players in MLB history to accumulate 3,000 hits, 300 home runs, and a career .300 batting average (the others being Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, and Stan Musial). Miguel Cabrera is now a member of that exclusive club also.
@@onrywaymore104 - Ah, gotcha!
Yankee killer....
Yes sir; the ultimate Yankee killer
Nice profile pic.
3:20 when your girl tells you she’s wet and wants you to come over, but then she says nvm and she’s gonna go to sleep
Class act of the Rangers infielders to let George have that last slow roller as a single.
2nd Greatest 3rd Baseman of ALL TIME (behind Schmidt)
yep its those 2 and everybody else
