Wow, great rust removal and painting but no restoration without proper lubrication, new bearings and maybe a little lapping on the moving parts. It could have turned out to be a great lathe restoration! Take care!
even a green amateur would never beat on the inner race of a ball bearing race, come back when you understand what you need to do so that landfills are emptier, and not be part of the problem...
A red Chuck 😮 , switchen the gears without stopping😢 you need some slams on the cheeks! What about some bearing lubrikacion? It sound really poor! What you think the Nippels are for?
The red chuck is butt-ugly! I didn't like the way he hammered on the chuck jaws to remove them at 51:00 Should have used a brass drift pin. At 22:27 he hammered on the inner race of the bearing. Wrong! Should have installed new bearings everywhere. That's why it sounds so bad. What's he gonna do about a tailstock? I think he got paint on a lot of surfaces that should not be painted. Not a good restoration.
All that work...well done but you should have changed the bearings and belt and the motor is not powerful. The headstock need to be tuned also you need a new chuck
There is no part of this video that was'nt HORRIBLE. Why do these people always paint over rust, do not oil or grease properly and clout machined parts with a steel hammer or mallet?
Exactly, and bondo.. What the h... .. paint remover, sand blast and paint. Casting "imperfections" are non-relevant for a once fully working machine. I must admit, as a more of self-taught mechanic, once upon a time I didn't understand the importance of hitting ends of shafts (and metal parts in general) with something softer. I learned it when a mechanic once shouted at me tapping gently with a hammer onto a shaft end. He told me to never do it like I did, cause it will alter/scew/warp the the shaft dimensions. Using a softer material doesn't always guarantee it doesn't get altered.. if the moving masses are big enough, they will alter even if the collision is tiny. Also, installing the bearings by pressing/hitting the wrong raceway, transferring the axial force through the rolling elements, will most certainly shorten the life of the bearings.
I expect someone previous has mentioned that you don't use a parting tool for length wise turning, the parting tool is for straight in parting off of the work. You need the right tool for the job at hand.
Looking at several comments, I'm surprised that no one mentioned that parting tools are for parting off, not for lateral cutting. Only need to watch proper machinists at work and take note of the cutting tools being used for thje jobs they were designed for.
All in all, given the apparent facilities and equipment to hand, a nice, thorough, clean and repaint job. Not much attention paid to lubrication that I could see, nor to the measurement or rectification of wear. To be fair though the lathe looked very lightly used.
Just what I was going to say. No primer before colour coat, hit the shaft or gear with any tool to hand, just clean and replace bearings, in fact all of it!
Come on buddy, that's not a restoration, it's just cleaning and repainting. All that rust on the bed-ways, cross-lide, top slide etc, you don't even change the bearings, not any lubricants...you should bring the bed for a precision regrinding..Keep in mind that in machining tools we paint ONLY the covers. Ts ts ts, what a wasted time.
Old Bob, Perth: Hi - When regreasing good bearings, (no noise, or rust - test spun with compressed air) cup left hand, add grease to palm, push side of bearing into grease until grease is forced through, turning bearing as you go, your bearing will be full of grease, not just the sides! Next job!
So far at about 18 minutes in it does not appear to be in as bad on condition as I suspected but I really haven’t gotten a good look at the land and ways on the lathe bed itself
Nice quality machine but please put oil on the bench guide and the compound . All part sneed lubrification to avoid galling and wear . Your compound is ''hard to drive '' that not normal .
No he is not clever, not clever enough to know to put new bearings into a machine ' restoration', and to not paint over machined mating surfaces, making the machine even more inaccurate than it would have been even if he had put new bearings in it!
Why didn't you replace the old and damaged bearings after spending so much time opening and closing the machine and re-using the same old bearings? This was a big mistake and stupidity, because the power of your device is now half of the real power of the device, and in the near future, the device will have to be forced open again to replace the damaged bearings and even some gears, and I promise you that this will not happen. It will fall soon.
That is not restoration my friend this just cleaning and painting no lapping not bearing replacement and painting stuff that shouldn't be painted and no lubrication it run's like a cat about to die and am pretty sure precision it gone out of the window
Excelent job, almost factory like, however it needs some more tune up. Could be e good option to consider taper bearings for the head spindle, but it's a thing you'll be able to make in the future. The cutter at the end was too high, but it's a decent machine for smaller things. Cheers, keep on.
Wow, great rust removal and painting but no restoration without proper lubrication, new bearings and maybe a little lapping on the moving parts. It could have turned out to be a great lathe restoration! Take care!
Considering your working conditions, you did a great job. It's a bit noisy but all-in-all not a bad lathe. Thanks for the video.
verry nice work
thank you
even a green amateur would never beat on the inner race of a ball bearing race, come back when you understand what you need to do so that landfills are emptier, and not be part of the problem...
amazing lathe tool hacks 🤩🤩🤩 #lathe#machine#hack#tools #music#cnc#diy#shortsfeed
Hack is the right word for it lol the whole thing was a hack job!
A red Chuck 😮 , switchen the gears without stopping😢 you need some slams on the cheeks! What about some bearing lubrikacion? It sound really poor! What you think the Nippels are for?

Great job, should have changed all bearings😊
An absolute must in most cases, that motor sounded like a rock polisher when he was done. Ugh..
Love their videos...do more please...
Thank. I will try to make more videos
hải phòng là ko lòng vòng, chúc mừng anh
Buen trabajo quedo jenial muy buen torno
He took on a big task , I say well done , bearings aside 😊
Muito bom os seus trabalho gostei muito
Beast of a restoration 👍
clueless.
All that work...well done but you should have changed the bearings and belt and the motor is not powerful.
The headstock need to be tuned also you need a new chuck
Those bearings are rough you can hear the grit in them .
stupid not change all bearings new, simple cheap and smart add all bearings new, no go money lot but have life time lot more and know all have good.
If plus coffee time it was less @@GpunktHartman

Just like the big auction houses that put fresh paint to get more money on resale especially if you use red… You can paint anything red and sell it
EXTRAORDINARIO
Don't paint the chuck dude. Polish and keep a film of oil on it. Same with compound slide. Dear oh dear...
Looks great! I wonder if this is same Takahashi company that makes Telescopes... Those are very highly regarded
Great restoration, looks like it will work for you a long time.
I expect someone previous has mentioned that you don't use a parting tool for length wise turning, the parting tool is for straight in parting off of the work. You need the right tool for the job at hand.
Condition of the Lathe shoes that it's motor should be rewound but you do not show repairing of its motor.
Looking at several comments, I'm surprised that no one mentioned that parting tools are for parting off, not for lateral cutting. Only need to watch proper machinists at work and take note of the cutting tools being used for thje jobs they were designed for.
Er that wasn't a compliment I think lol
Formidável!
Yes! Formidably bloody awful !!😂😂😂😂😂😂
Bearing should be greased up
All in all, given the apparent facilities and equipment to hand, a nice, thorough, clean and repaint job. Not much attention paid to lubrication that I could see, nor to the measurement or rectification of wear. To be fair though the lathe looked very lightly used.
It is really painful to watch

Bearings sound a bit gritty, but I certainly wouldn't mind an old lathe like that to restore...
Nice job , looks great
Welcome to the 3rd world, where appearance means more than correct

Fantastic project! How long did it take??
Restore? No. Lathe coating. :D
good job
Good job Guy ;oP
thank you
Didn’t grease or lube anything. Well at least they didn’t paint the ways like they normally do in these videos.

I want to find something like this
Hey, Mister Jones, how much did you pay for this operator ? No, it´s too much ....
The gears are still quite new
Japan made lathe?
It's a Takahashi, what do you think???
So far at about 18 minutes in it does not appear to be in as bad on condition as I suspected but I really haven’t gotten a good look at the land and ways on the lathe bed itself
Nice restoration? But where's the tail post?.
Gone...
It works with a SIEMENS Air Center Bearing😂
Precio de ese torno???
One penny GBP, that's £0.01 lol
It wouldn't sound so rough if you had replaced the bearings.
The motor makes a strange noise, you need to inspect the ball bearings
Did you grease the bearings cause it all sounds very dry 😮
😎😎👍👍
😂good“s🎉‼️
thanks
Nice quality machine but please put oil on the bench guide and the compound . All part sneed lubrification to avoid galling and wear . Your compound is ''hard to drive '' that not normal .
It is fairly simple to make a tool to unwind a collar, so why whack it with a coal chisel and hammer.
not a restoration just a clean and paint .
Not good! Should have use new bearings and I heard grit in some parts of the rebuild!
Would be far smarter to use a resin or hide mallet when fitting metal parts.
If this is your only concern mate I'd go look at it again from a machinists point of view!
The old bearings you put in the engine make a lot of noise. You also painted rails that don't need to be painted.

Why Bondo? Just strip all the paint off.
For complete perfection and safety, the lathe chuck should be painted with black and yellow stripes. Sure.

replace the belts, the bearings and add grease to the gears. I wouldn't do any precision work with it it's all over the place
Didn't the maker have a castle? 🏰 Lol
RED paint on a machine tool!!!
trabaja en seco sin lUBRICAQCION
Don't have a clean and organized place to restore the lathe?
Craigslist rattle can rebuild.
