So the last branded dealership was Storm Altman Suzuki. It closed when Suzuki pulled out of the US Market. It was a couple of other off brand dealerships after that. Fun Fact.. Storm Altman is still in the car business as the GM of the Kia dealership in Goose Creek
Ah! Very cool! Yea someone else mentioned Suzuki and also was a dodge dealer way back in the day. I actually remember going to this lot when I was shopping for a car after moving here. It said “no dealers” but the reason I was there is because the dealership I was shopping at down the highway said they “keep inventory there”…. Just seemed shady, I went and looked but was already mentally “nope”….
Good video. I remember looking on Google maps and this was a Dodge, Chrysler, Plymouth, and Saturn dealer I think. Did you see the abandoned CVS down the street?
@@charlestonpinballarcade No problem! I haven’t gotten around to filming it, but I’ve been wanting to. I doubt it’s getting repurposed, but maybe it is. I’m not entirely sure.
For many, many years that was a Dodge dealership. I can’t recall but they may have also sold Chrysler’s and Plymouth’s as well. They lost their franchise when Chrysler decided to consolidate their area dealers and keep the larger, more prominent area dealers and eliminate the smaller dealers. When that happened this dealer took on a Suzuki franchise in an effort to stay in business. The pylon signs that you see along the highway are the old Suzuki signs. The odd huge metal framework over the front door was the red Suzuki sign. I wish I could remember the original name of the dealership but the name when it closed was Strom Altman Dodge-Suzuki. The building next door with the steeple was originally an Ethan Allan furniture store named Ethan Allan Carriage House. It closed in the 1970’s I believe. That is indeed a VERY sketchy area! I’ve not been there in decades and had no idea that property was abandoned!
Oh! Yea! That building next door to the oil place with the steeple definitely had that Ethan Allen feel but I could not figure it out. there’s so many run down nasty buildings up and down rivers that I know have some amazing retail history, but it’s all been forgotten minus folks like like you. Oh lord, Suzuki cars… total junk. Thanks again!
Not sure how these dealerships make their money. Way too many of these lots all over the United States. These days used cars are almost as expensive as new cars.
Something is going to have to change soon. Another dealership reset. The overhead at actual brand dealerships is astronomical, thus creating a cycle of nasty salespeople trying to get over on the public, high priced repairs and this is why people hate dealing with buying a car. The internet car lots like this one on the video I believe relied on the pitch that the customer was getting “direct” pricing without overhead add ons. Im not sure if the business just went bad or maybe it was the health issue on the lot property that brought this place to a close.
Hi ML! To be impartial, I am not 100% sure if the police have been here to watch the property or to be in a prime location to get to any local incidents as fast as possible. This is a very very busy intersection and also right next to highway 26, which is the largest road heading inland toward Columbia, SC. I just found it very surprising that the property hasn't been vandalized. With all these open garage doors and hiding spots, this is a property I would expect to have some illegal activities happening. Maybe its just luck... so far. Thanks for watching!!!
God bless the American Dream!
His car selling skills were USA all the way! 🎉🎉🎉
A friend of mine was a salesman there in the 1990s when it was Altman Dodge.
This is a lie… when did you have a friend? 😂

Thanks Belle! I hope they put in some stores we don’t already have too many of here in the area. Happy new year!!! 🎉🎉

Damn it… how do I keep missing this stuff? The problem is Rivers is such chaos, I can’t slow down to look. Ha! Thanks for the good word!

There is an abandoned Chevy dealer in Gastonia on New Hope Rd. A body shop has taken over part of it but most of it is empty.
Let’s get filming that! Post it! I wanna see!!!🎉😂

Also, cops protecting abandoned property rather than protecting citizens...nothing changes.
