I left California 4 years ago as, it seemed the corrupt political leadership of the state was getting worse and worse. The subsequent 4 years has proven my foresight to be correct.

There is usually somebody near when a generator starts on fire. Usually they are filling it while it's running or they shut it down but spill gas that starts on fire when they run it again. There isn't always someone near the power line.
And the Governor is worried about shampoo bottles at hotels! That should tell you all you need to know about the government in California. What a shame it's such a beautiful state.

Can you warn everyone about the danger of wiring their generators to their own breaker panel. The power backfeeding onto the grid actually goes through the transformer which works in reverse and transforms your 115v or 230v into 16,000+volts. This is dangerous for the utilities working on lines they think are dead. It also can overload your generator because you are suddenly trying to power your neighbors house too. The other thing that happens is when power does come back on your generator becomes a motor and the power from the grid starts turning the generator. This will result in the motor catching on fire in a very short amount of time. (Probably the cause of the generator fires) if you are hooking your generator to the breaker panel you really need to install the generator bypass that prevents the main breaker from being on while your generator breaker is on.
When you run your generator, be smart enough to shut off the main breaker and isolate yourself and your generator from the grid. When I lived in Florida, that's what you did when you ran a generator after a hurricane.
Depending on where you live (ie most places) the "building codes" will require some type of manual or automatic transfer switch, if you want to hook up to the house. I have both because I have an auto-start propane powered genset and a backup pto powered genset I use on my tractor. Many of the A/T switches have critical load circuit breakers built-in so that the main breaker panel is isolated from the circuits you want to keep on, such as outlets and lights.
The law and regulatory framework is such that you have to have an auto-disconnect switch from grid power for generators or solar systems wired into breaker panels.
Ruth, Volts X Amps equal watts. Look up what your friges and freezers use for amps. Multiply that x 115 (volts) and you will know what size generator you need. For your question about the generator.
@@Andrew-13579 Do what you can to supply your energy needs from what is available locally (wind/solar/hydro) and invest in storage to compensate for any intermittency in supply and you free yourself from those who don't give a shit about your freedom and occasionally fly airplanes into your buildings. You can then use your local sources of petroleum or even Sabatier process hydrocarbons to patch the remaining small holes such as aviation.

You mention that 1000 gallons of Avgas was sold for generators at the airport. I would suspect that many folks feel they can simply use it in their cars. It is my understanding that the lead content of Avgas won't damage generators but those putting it their cars risk serious damage. I personally have witnessed an airport employee sneaking Avgas into his newer SUV only to discover in a couple weeks his catalytic converter was plugged resulting in a huge cost to replace it.
Back in the mid '70s, we ran almost 25 gallons of 100 octane AV gas through a 1974 Cutlass Supreme, equipped with a 455 V8. A week later, we happened to remove the air filter cover & looked down at the carburetor, a Rochester QuadraJet 4 barrel. There was not a spec of gum or grime in or on it. It looked like it had just come off the assembly line.
So true but rather the maintenance on the power stations and no coal but also the result of incompetent management. Another South African with a generator and 12volt battery LED lights to overcome power outages.
Actually it’s been recently found by the state of California that the electricity causes cancer so unfortunately PG and E is going to be thriving the power off to the whole state
The size of California will surprise a lot of people. If you were to drive from the Florida/Georgia border all the way North to the Rhode Island/Massachusetts border, the would be the same as driving the length of California. So the amount of lines needing to be inspected is phenomenal. I'm a native Californian, but I live on the East Coast. Recently Hurricane Irma was thought to be getting ready to do some damage to Florida. A friend of mine had trouble getting to where he needed to go because of all the power company trucks on the interstate. Yes, they were hurrying to Florida to help restore the power - in advance if the storm!
As the song says - "The things you think are precious I can't understand" - misplaced priorities - however your perspective is much appreciated, thats why I keep coming back. Thank you sir !
We had 2 homes just in my neighborhood burn down when the power came back on after being out for 5 days after a really big ice storm. Those people had their generators hooked up improperly to their homes main power lines and the power surge caused the generators caught fire. Being the attached garages, the fires spread quickly to the houses. So I will be interested in seeing how many fires start when the power comes back on.

PG&E execs and the principal shareholders (Rothschild Family) are fully on board with "Climate Change" and U.N. Agenda 21, and PG&E and the CPUC (and California and NY governments) are ICLEI Members (along with the Rockefellers and Rothschilds) and also on board with the criminal scam. Research CCAs/CCE for example and see how many exist in NY state (if any). This entire framework they developed is a scam and does nothing to solve any perceived problem (which doesn't exist) of Global Warming or Climate Change, because it doesn't increase generating capacity from so-called Clean Renewable Energy Sources/Plants (which are anything but anyway). bit.ly/2IIAVqw bit.ly/2MA22W1 bit.ly/2pel642 Research some of the "smaller" site web links on this page: bit.ly/2q4V4k4 Without my knowledge or consent, because of California Assembly Bill 117 (CCA/CCE state legal framework adoption for counties/municipalities/COGs) PG&E switched our "Energy Distributor" to a newly created 3rd party company (Monterey Bay Community Choice Energy) and my bill went up by $180+ for energy we never used (though both MBCP and PG&E claim it "saves customers money". I live in Maine - we lose power for 3 weeks (at one time), at least once a year, that will be the longest length, along with various other outages, adding up to multiple periods of outages. Look up states that lose power the most on a US level. Maine tops the list, for unknown reasons. But, it never makes the news that we lose power as long as we do. Sometimes, the newspaper will say, we lost power for "5 days" or "4 days". Total crap, as we are all still without power at that point, and most don't get it back, as I said, for up to 3 weeks, and some even longer if they are more rural.
This seems like a little spiteful punishment by pge for holding them responsible for the fires (their lines started). They're taking their electrons and going home! The public should take this as a wake up call, and continue to de-centralize the power grid. Zoning should be changed requiring all new buildings to have solar voltaics designed into them, that produce enough power to support the building. Solar, wind, tidal, etc. should all be given government subsidies that match the amounts given to the petroleum industry, to accelerate our transition to renewable energy sources. If every building had its' own power source, and small towns invested in storage batteries like the one in Australia, they could shut down pge and it wouldn't matter.
Exactly this. So many Californians got fooled by this, like "well... we don't want to start a fire so it makes sense". But every other state has wind and they never cut the power. Why? Because *their* utilities keep their power lines clear of vegetation as mandated by law instead of neglecting their infrastructure and bribing lawmakers. PG&E did this to deter people from suing after the next disaster. It's exactly the same tactic as the government shutdowns during funding disputes. They are designed to bring maximum inconvenience to the average American. It's a form of punishment and coercion.
It happens when you get sued into bankruptcy. The real question is how hard the ecotards make it to cut vegetation around transmission line right of way. Only California is having this problem.
Almost all new construction in the last 30 or 40 years in the states in most areas mandate buried power lines. But in some areas it's not really possible or feasible because of tree roots, rocky ground, and other things (or too cost prohibitive).
Buried power lines are not a panacea, and for multiple reasons. And THOSE reasons don’t even include California’s notoriously unstable geology. Back to the drawing board.
Jaun: the only way to save California electrical runs was underground grid lines and distribtion boxes to residence areas, which was brought up 20 yrs ago to solve fires and winds..BUT someone didn't listen...
A lot of urban and suburban power lines have been buried all over California, just not in rural areas. Also, the big, high-voltage lines that transmit power from the hydroelectric sources in the mountains to the local PG&E and the Municipal Power Companies can't be buried, I am pretty sure.. My little city of Gridley jumped on the municipal power band wagon way back when, thankfully, and we rarely have outages. One outage that shut the lights out in virtually ALL of the western US back in the summer of 1997 skipped right over our Municipal Electrical Utility and we had power all day and all night when virtually nobody else had power the whole time.
What has to happen is that PG&E maintain their power line right of way vegetation, if they don't do that, this will be the new normal. Go figure, I am disgusted with it. Cheers all
They did that with generators on big rigs... then made them have regeneration systems to burn emissions... and they wonder why most major companies wont pull any freight to california anymore
Portable power units already have to meet emissions regs. It's a good thing, ours is smelly enough already. Without emissions regulations, automobile manufacturers wouldn't have had the incentive to improve the combustion efficiency of their engines and there would be no 840 hp Dodge Demons that get real-world 15 mpg on the road today. That is to say, you have it backwards: by requiring manufacturers to solve one problem, the government regulations solved three. Emissions went down, miles per gallon went up, and power went through the roof.
Did the 'OMG bruh! don't cut the trees down man! They're alive man! They feel pain too man!' tree hugging hippies have anything to do with this or it's just too dry when a line falls?
It would seem to me that having a couple million people running little generators would be more of a fire hazard.
@Sideshow Bob - I'll bet, more than just a _fire_ hazard - but, that's a good place to start.

The neeer ones don't feed into the grid linrs... if they did, anyone who worked on the lines would be crispy.
I have a rather large Frankenstein switch in the meter box which is labelled grid, off, generator. Its really not that hard.
The law and regulatory framework is such that you have to have an auto-disconnect switch from grid power for generators or solar systems wired into breaker panels.
Electricity is the thread holding everything together, it seems.
And Gasoline Diesel Plastics etc, IOW petroleum.
check out the book 'one second after' you are 100% right
Ruth, Volts X Amps equal watts. Look up what your friges and freezers use for amps. Multiply that x 115 (volts) and you will know what size generator you need. For your question about the generator.
Take out the electricity and gasoline and you can dominate the people and stomp out freedom.

Ahhh unintended consequences! That’s what happens when you sue your power company into bankruptcy! I don’t know how long you Californians will put up with this. Juan , keep up the great work!,
And people wonder why we want to recall Newsom. PG&E infrastructure hasn’t been maintained it’s not the people in the field it’s management paying dividends to investors instead of maintaining facilities.
Something tells me the impeach Gavin Newsome movement just got a huge boost.
Thank you Juan for the update. I appreciate your concern and your ability to offer factual reports without all the hype. Praying for your return to excellent health. Keep Pete on two wheels and ride safe my friend.
It usually starts in California, Be near a theater near you soon.
Wranglestar sent me here. Good info! Thanks
Yes high lead will kill a catalytic converter. It can also set your vehicle on fire
It kills the catalytic converters. So, enjoy the horrible emissions and lots of toxic metals you are going to go through thanks to your power outages.
@@bvcxzgt5451 the generators don't have catalytic converters.
@@stargazer7644 overheats the catalytic converter. Ever see metal burn?
Back in the mid '70s, we ran almost 25 gallons of 100 octane AV gas through a 1974 Cutlass Supreme, equipped with a 455 V8. A week later, we happened to remove the air filter cover & looked down at the carburetor, a Rochester QuadraJet 4 barrel. There was not a spec of gum or grime in or on it. It looked like it had just come off the assembly line.
Good Evening Juan. Thanks for the insights.
Thanks for the great report. Outstanding as always. Good luck and be safe.
I felt SO home with this Video. This is a Yearly Reality here in South Africa. Incompetence the order of the day.
So true but rather the maintenance on the power stations and no coal but also the result of incompetent management. Another South African with a generator and 12volt battery LED lights to overcome power outages.
Have a buddy in Durbin...he says it sucks there too.
I am sooo happy I migrated from CA in 2016. The politicians in CA are TOTALLY off track.
Well, they are democraps
Thank you for sharing....... It's good to see the impact. Get ready for the next one.
Sounds like PG&E didn't want to spend their own money inspecting all the lines ready for upgrade.
Sounds like they might just stop making power completely
Actually it’s been recently found by the state of California that the electricity causes cancer so unfortunately PG and E is going to be thriving the power off to the whole state
Turning
Patrick O your state just banned small shampoo bottles... it trolls itself
I wonder how the Tesla Power Stations are doing? There must be a lot of crabby drivers of electric cars.
about the same as people who cant pump gas I guess, frustrated.
People with tesla power stations usually have solar. Their laughing, not grumpy.
@@xxtwr1 that sounds like quite a bit of solar
LMAO!!
Randomly found this video. This was well done. Thank you for taking time to make this. Be safe out there.
As the song says - "The things you think are precious I can't understand" - misplaced priorities - however your perspective is much appreciated, thats why I keep coming back. Thank you sir !

I live in the countryside in New Zealand. My power went off for 10 minutes last week. Oh the panic.....no internet!!
I know that is horrible and it scars me for weeks!
Imagine if the internet went out for 10 days? There would be teenage zombies roaming the streets, completely gone mad out of their minds

Love your screen name !!!
That's why my Router got a battery plus a USV for at least 2 day's of power. It will switch to 4G if DSL don't work, too 😙🎶
We had 2 homes just in my neighborhood burn down when the power came back on after being out for 5 days after a really big ice storm. Those people had their generators hooked up improperly to their homes main power lines and the power surge caused the generators caught fire. Being the attached garages, the fires spread quickly to the houses.
So I will be interested in seeing how many fires start when the power comes back on.
Juan it's crazy to see how big your channel has gotten been with you since the beginning
No one is thinking about the plight of the heroine addicts being unable to find veins in the dark!!!
HA HA HA HAHAHA !!!
Watching in Canada 🇨🇦. Keep the updates coming.
Thanks for the update Juan. This fiasco has got everything out of whack and upside down, or like your video Flopped Backwards. What a mess. Another situation that is going to be extra hard on the small business folks who get by on small margins to begin with they can't eat this kind of outage related loss, especially repeatedly, they have my sympathies.
California has been in the dark for a long long time !
Anyone seen “Caught on Tape, California under attack” by SGTReport here on RUclips?
Yes I did and Red Pill 78 had a good report too.
And your new governor has really nice hair! The Newsome's, the Brown's, the Pelosi's and the Getty's have been associated with each other, through business, family, and marriage for decades. They have controlled the fate of California to some extent and unfortunately, the ignorant population of California, the voters, have no idea what the future will bring. As a California native, it is sad to see what was once the greatest state in the Union, sink so low. California now has two classes; the rich elite and the working class. The middle class has basically left.
Once again CA is creating a crisis because of mismanagement and everyone one has to pay.
I have a feeling as a taxpayer in NY, I will end contributing to paying for this.
Well you already are and have been for a long time (in terms of tax dollars going to the fallacy and fraud [crime and conspiracy] of so-called "Global Warming" (which isn't happening). This entire framework they developed is a scam and does nothing to solve any perceived problem (which doesn't exist) of Global Warming or Climate Change, because it doesn't increase generating capacity from so-called Clean Renewable Energy Sources/Plants (which are anything but anyway). bit.ly/2IIAVqw bit.ly/2MA22W1 bit.ly/2pel642
Research some of the "smaller" site web links on this page: bit.ly/2q4V4k4 Without my knowledge or consent, because of California Assembly Bill 117 (CCA/CCE state legal framework adoption for counties/municipalities/COGs) PG&E switched our "Energy Distributor" to a newly created 3rd party company (Monterey Bay Community Choice Energy) and my bill went up by $180+ for energy we never used (though both MBCP and PG&E claim it "saves customers money". Ironically this tax exempt "business" is located inside a former PG&E service center. bit.ly/2IIKDcj If you want any links or more information on the largest conspiracy in human history, let me know. bit.ly/2B6fmfh
Count on it. I'm from NY.
It's happening were I live right now, I'm three states away. PG&E owns our power.
Erin McLaughlin they’re your communist brothers and sisters, you’re obligated or what kind of communist are you 😂
Upstate NY here. We get four wild months of weather. Always try to be prepared for weather or power.

This is great! It's like a recon report from behind enemy lines. Good stuff. Thanks for the sitrep.
Pardon me while I take a crap on the sidewalk
Melt the shampoo bottles and insulated the lines. Problem solved.
Michael Steffen
😂
Simple right
I think they should insulate them with plastic straws, they will work better, melt the shampoo bottles to make grocery bags 😀
Three weeks!! Sorry to here that, hoping for you and your family stay safe.
Over here in Sweden we even bury the power lines now to ensure the long term reliability.
Almost all new construction in the last 30 or 40 years in the states in most areas mandate buried power lines. But in some areas it's not really possible or feasible because of tree roots, rocky ground, and other things (or too cost prohibitive).
My neighborhood in Florida is like that, love it.
Buried power lines are not a panacea, and for multiple reasons. And THOSE reasons don’t even include California’s notoriously unstable geology. Back to the drawing board.
rico567 stand alone solar systems keep the deepfreeze cold. Set up in a day, reliable power for years, no gas required.
Wranglerstar sent me here! Great channel
Jaun: the only way to save California electrical runs was underground grid lines and distribtion boxes to residence areas, which was brought up 20 yrs ago to solve fires and winds..BUT someone didn't listen...
They can't afford it.
The reactive power consumed by all that would substantially hurt the grid's efficiency and capacity.
Putting electrical lines under ground that moves around sometime ?. I wish the folks all the best from Texas ,usa.
What has to happen is that PG&E maintain their power line right of way vegetation, if they don't do that, this will be the new normal. Go figure, I am disgusted with it.
Cheers all
I wonder how many small generators will start fires?
I remember the days when you would just fix the lines and remove the trees and brush away from the powerlines.
Maybe this will make people rethink who they vote for and how they manage forests.
How long until they make you buy a catalytic converter for your generator. Whenever the government tries to solve a problem they create 3 more.
They're already doing this for wood stoves!
Robert Burns Avgas is leaded, it would ruin a catalytic converter.
They did that with generators on big rigs... then made them have regeneration systems to burn emissions... and they wonder why most major companies wont pull any freight to california anymore
We already have them on most new nat gas water heaters.
It takes a damn hurricane to knock down our power in Texas
