It's disheartening to see so many empty seats for such a wonderful orchestra and magnificent composition. And seen and heard on RUclips by a technically first class video-sound recording.

It was recorded during the Covid pandemic and there was a very limited audience allowed to be present, I assume.

I have been a fan of this orchestra since I heard them for the first time (and live) in Frankfurt summer of 1987.
Now I'm also a fan of this music 👍

An incredible performance. On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, there is something inspiring about hearing a Polish conductor lead a masterpiece by a Polish composer, with such fiery commitment. During the long curtain call, the glowing faces of the musicians seal the deal. Marvelous in every way, and in spectacular audio and video.

My understanding is his later works post-1955) are much less tonal. It’s been a long time since I listened to any, but my memories are of not liking the other pieces I heard much at all. Very different from this piece.

This is most popular Lutoslawsky piece, also because is written in a more accesible way, before composer' 's change of direction towards new and less easy language. Much brilliant version, more or less comparable with Gardner's,.

Fantastic performance….I recall my first hearing of this composition back in the early ‘70s when Henry Lewis conducted the New Jersey Symphony during the UN Day concert….one of those uplifting moments that will never be forgotten…….

I guess I had only heard later Luotslawski in the past, because I don’t remember liking it NEARLY as much as this piece. (As in, I didn’t particularly like it at all.) But this Concerto for Orchestra is very nice, helped along by the wonderful performance. As always, the orchestra plays wonderfully, the conductor is fantastic, and the audio and video production are both fabulous. Urbanski’s hand gestures in recognizing the various sections during the applause are even worth watching - each a beautiful pantomime. Congratulations to everyone involved, and thank you for the beautiful and engaging musical experience!

That's the thing about Lutoslawksi. He radically evolved his style in the late 50's and became ever more avantgarde and modern.
There is a reason why only the Concerto gets played often. ;)

Lutoslawski: Konzert fur Orchester . hr . Sinfonieorchester
I confess to never hearing this piece of music before but I’ll listen to it with open ears.
It’s pleasurable enough the orchestra are wonderful musicians very talented.
I’ll maybe listen to it again, its difficult to say that you enjoy a piece of music with just having heard it for the first time.
Thank You for sending it to me.
    Goodbye, for now.

Interesting piece. It does a lot of wonderful things but never reaches the peak of greatness. Great music is very rare and this resides one rung down. I did notice there were a lot of empty seats in the audience because they weren't playing the Bartok Concerto.

Bravo!! I love it! I've only heard snippets of the Concerto before, but it's pretty darn kewl. HRS is the best, of course, and Urbanski seemed to have total control of the piece. I know it's a bit derivative and seems to owe a lot to Bartok and Shostakovich, but it's still a fun ride. Thank you, as always, for making your glorious performances available to the wider world!!
