I'm usually not a big fan of contemporary classical music, but one of its strong points is to highlight the range and versatility of instruments. This piece does that well. I would like to give a big compliment to the staff of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony responsible for both sound and video. The videos show off not only the conductor but several of the musicians. The sound is superb. Thank to all for providing these great recordings. I enjoy them immensely.
I actually find the dissonances pleasing to listen to. It's a departure for me to enjoy contemporary music like this, but enjoy I did! One of my forever favorite pieces is Gorecki Symphony No. 3, so perhaps that's why I was drawn to listen to this piece in its entirety. Great excitement and energy!

It's an inspiration by one of the regional Polish folk dance from Podhale (Krzesany is the name of this dance). Kilar was truly inspired by the folk culture of Tatra mountains and made it clearly sound in this masterpiece.
Kilar is actually citing a real folk melody in this part, it is called "Do zbójnickiego, do zwyrtu’" and is taken from Stanisław Mierczyński’s collection "Muzyka Podhala" (meaning "Music of the Podhale Region"). It has the number 101 there, you can find digital copies of the collection online.
@martinsaroch3512 Górecki czy Bacewicz are from the same generation. Panufnik got forgotten. Meyer or Sikora completely ignored. Lutoslawski don't need promotion. Wajnberg getting some push lately. But, yeah...when I think about it there is not much to choose from...
@@irekmichal2005 I agree Bacewicz needs more promotion in concert halls. At least some of her orchestral works have been recorded lately, though many of her pieces remain unrecorded.
Composers are not created equally. Apparently, still true. This is a cinematic work, although its unrelenting grimness is tiring, this is a major work. That said, this orchestra is brilliant.

I wonder if the composer wrote every note for the woodwind from 13:57 on or if he just let the musicians play ad libitum with some indications.
It is ad-libbed. I have the score, and he just writes a big squiggly line through the staves.
