The upper three meters of the water column is where tuna primarily feed, where most fish are caught and where your fishing efforts should be focused. This is a result of yellowfin tuna using the surface as an edge to trap baitfish.
You may find them in full boil gorging on baits, just below the surface or down a little deeper keeping the baitfish corralled against the surface within striking distance. With bait near the surface, invariably, birds will arrive on the scene. Given these tendencies, being able to get a bait down a few feet is critical.
