  • According to the census, there are 9,614 “other” Finno-Ugric people living in Estonia: Erzyas, Mokshas, Udmurts, Komis, Karelians, Maris, Hungarians, Finns, Ingrians, and many others. Overall, there are around 25 million Finno-Ugrians in the world. Still, the number of those who speak Finno-Ugric languages keeps declining, says doctor Natalia Abrosimova of the Tallinn University School of Humanities.

Hungarians are Scythians just look up the recent genetic resarch however they lived close proximity with other Uralic people that's why there are similarities so as with many other nations / languages. Many Finno-Ugric people with Y-DNA Haplogroup N are genetically closely related to East Asians eg Chinese, Koreans (who predominantly have Haplogroup O, which split off from Haplogroup NO). In fact the Chinese and Koreans are genetically more closely related to Finns and Estonians than the neighbouring Mongolians (who have Haplogroup C instead). Hello to my Finno-Ugric brothers and sisters :)

    • @Aurinkohirvi
      @Aurinkohirvi 4 года назад +9

      MANY haplogroups found in Europe originate from Siberia and Eastern Asia. But haplogroups aren't good to determine genetic distances of peoples. They used to do that when genetic research was expensive. Modern researches use whole DNA because now there's lots of data available, and you get quite different results.
      Lemme give you an example of the problem. A Chinese man moves into France and marries a French woman. According to their Y-DNA and MtDNA haplogroups, their son is Chinese and daughter is French. Of course that's not the case: both of them are Chinese-French. If the future children of the original family stay in France 10 000 years and continuosly marry French people, and if the male line stays alive, then after that time the boys' Y-DNA still shows they are Chinese, even though they have all the time married to French girl and you can't tell them from other French people: the 1st son had 50% Chinese DNA, the second generation had 25% and so on. A haplogroup is a microscopic part of the DNA which has low chance of mutation and is inherited as a group: thus it's handy to trace maternal and paternal lineages.
      One funny result using haplogroups is, a population might look like their women would come Spain and their men from Iran. Well, naturally that's not so, and it never was so. Of course these people always married different people from different (probably very near) places. It's just that those haplogroups had spread there.
      And one needs to always look at the phylogenetic tree, as it's not just one single haplogroup, it has several branches that fork from the tree with mutating subclades. If the branches fork early... then there is really nothing much of the relation left. If the branches have recently forked, like within a few centuries, then there might be something. When we're talking about millenias... these haplogroups spread VERY wide (continents wide) and they don't represent any sort of relationship with these people any longer. It's not a good tool for it, but RUclips video makers don't get it.

    • @Aurinkohirvi
      @Aurinkohirvi 4 года назад +1

      What it is good tool though, is tracing back numerous generations, for the reason that there is little change in the haplogroup, and these changes are being recorded. So you can track where people carrying that haplogroup have moved. Somewhat. It gets really difficult millenias back, as there are very few DNA samples going so far, and you're also missing many mutations. When they go millenias back, it's often hard to name even the continent where the maternal or paternal line started. In many cases it's still wild guesswork and there's competing opinions.

    • @Aurinkohirvi
      @Aurinkohirvi 4 года назад +2

      Take R1b Y-DNA haplogroup for example. It first appeared about 25 000 years ago in Central Asia. Now it is very common in formerly Celtic region Euope: Ireland, Scotland, Western France, Northern Spain and so on. It's also very common in Central Africa. It's not very common in Middle-East, but the Middle-East and Central Africa branch is actually the same branch, and it is an older branch than the European one. Well, are these Central Asian, Middle-Eastern, Central African and Western European peoples close cousins? They really are not.

      First of all finns and estonians are genetically very far away of east asians.
      N1c1 is haplogroup what can only be find in europa and its mutation happened in europe too so it is european haplogroup.
      Nobody has ever had any evidence of connection with finns and east asians, there has only said that finns would have tiny amount of east EURASIAN admixture which is totally different thing than east asian.
      Y dna haplogroup doesnt really tell anything about your genetics, you can be very black african and still have so called european haplogroup.
