No, they won't sell like crazy. Some people will buy them for nostalgic reasons or as a novelty. But let's be honest - streaming services are much much more convenient. Even downloading mp3's isn't that feasible today. Let alone having to record tapes and change them
@@sedatmehmed4371 It would be nice to be able to buy a new good quality Walkman that you don't have to worry about making laborious repairs to get working again.
@@sedatmehmed4371 No, of course not, and it's a shame they couldn't produce a high quality player since not enough folks are willing to shell a few hundred dollars for a new cassette player
I was born in 2001 but I personally think that stuff like this and portable cd/dvd/blu-ray players are way cooler than smartphones. Man, I wish that I could time travel to the 1980s and 1990s and visit those decades for a bit.
Only thing was you were limited to music you heard on the radio or through friends. And buying music was limited to your local stores or mail order for the hard to find stuff. My mind wouldve been blown if something like youtube was available back then. 🤯
@@iscander_s the headphones have very good tuning and does produce pretty decent sound, but ofc the new ones have better specs, but these headphones are still a very viable option to choose from in a budget standpoint
I had one of these back in the day. It was amazingly small, and only slightly larger than a cassette case. I remember, on day 1, trying to squeeze it into a cassette rack - to test the claim. Still, a remarkable achievement for Sony at the time, given what had to be inside the machine, including batteries.
+MrCarl220 SAME! Except for me that time is now....... Needless to say both my schooling companions and my teachers (most of them remember when the Walkman was popular) find me very amusing and interesting. Many have even called me quirky. I have five Walkmen. Three sports ones and two super Walkmen. I also gave a sports Walkman to my crush last year in the eighth grade when I was thirteen. I also gave her a few mix tapes.
Vinyl I can see because it seems that half the people I know have vinyl records or record players but I'm the only person I know that still uses cassettes. Although the cassette manufacturing company in my home town of Springfield said that last year they sold a little over ten million tapes. They were even the ones that made the "Awesome Mix" tapes from the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Apple is shit alright it is not even 0.01% close to Music Industry or close to what Sony has done. Just selling expensive products means nothing when their structure is completely hollow. Sony is name of quality and they don't do something until it's best
Did you see that prize at the end? $25,000 in 1983 is a fortune! Also, they should have made a "tune" and "fortune" pun but I guess that would have been to ahead of their time.
Such a wonderful presentation! They managed to sell me the idea despite the fact that product itself has since then lost some of its appeal in the modern day use.
I wanted the radio version of this so bad. I always bought the most expensive stuff, and didn’t think twice about how nothing lasted longer than a year, or why i had to start saving up for a new walkman as soon as i bought the last one.
nobody would have thought a high quality cassette player could be that small sony blew ur mind again lol! and cro2 / metal dolby wow super sounding stereo that fits in ur hand!!!
At the time, when the WALKMAN was developed by SONY, most people thought that a product without a recording function would not sell well. A young female employee saw this and said, "I want this," and SONY decided to sell it.
My dad is an avid fan of Sony companies, and he always buys something like this. Me and my families has almost owned or are already owning a lot of stuff from Sony, including PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP, due to my dad's influence and his love for Sony. It's not only that my dad loves Sony, but he also likes Japanese classic films like Akira Kurosawa, the show he watched it as a kid, and he thinks that Japan is more globally recognized to the world, but its not that true at all, since Korean and Chinese/Taiwanese companies domniates the eletronic industry nodaways.
I had the model with the radio with it. Radio was way better back then but since it worked with a single battery, I drained it significantly. It expands to accept a tape so you could press or crush it or you’ll have problems for sure but I loved it.
80's❤....it is not only about this super cool cassette player ....imagine listening to Michael Jackson , Madonna, Pet shop boys and George Michael.. etc. at their prime !!
fixing one currently - cannot find caps for it electrolytic caps from 1983 have no replacement (same dimensions might be smaller but, not bigger) in 2019
(if it's still actual) I guess the best way to get the exact same dimension caps would be to find the same walkman at a very low price (for salvage) and use its parts. Those parts would be old and might suffer the same fate as the caps you are trying to fix though
@@birdysama2980 I bought caps set from Amazon and long and behold it didn't have the caps size I need, and I barely make it fit in a spacious WM-F77. Some website sells capacitor kit for WM-DD II you may find the size you need.
Sony walkmans we’re a classic. They should do a re-release. There are heaps of people out there with old cassettes in drawers wanting to play or convert. (Likes me!) Throw the ability to convert to digital with a modern twist of a hidden usb c in with a usb c to to A plug in the box and they would sell like hotcakes! Com-on Sony!
I miss seeing these ads. I had their first model and I kept buying Sony until there was more selection. Then the Sports model came out. That was a big deal.
I never got the Sony....I could only ever get the rip-offs, which eventually were fairly good. I’d buy one today if they made them. I’m going to find one on eBay or somewhere.
They weren't that unique. Phillips were already making portable cassette players, as were Aiwa and other companies. The only difference is that Sony shrank the size down a bit AND removed that ability to record music on it (playback only).

Those were my Dad's hands. I remember when he did this commercial. Haven't seen this since the '80s. Thanks for the memories.
No way, that's awesome. I hope yr hands are just as beautiful!!🙌🏼
WAIT WHAT
Your dad was advertising the coolest Walkman ever made! He's a superstar!
Do you know who is the voice
I think it's Orson Bean?
If Sony started making these again they would sell like crazy. I know I would buy one.
Not only for walkmans but for cassette decks too from all brands but with the quality standards of 80s

Sony's product design in 80s was just gorgeous. Aged a lot better than 90s "everything is rounded and plastic-y now" stuff.

I wish time travel is possible.
Back in the day sony products were all made in japan ..
Not in china
Does anyone here believe when I say those headphones still give out awesome audio quality experience even in 2022?
No. Those walkman headphones were quite good for it's time, but they are very mediocre compared to high quality modern ones

Send it to MTW or something 😅
I have 2 Sony Walkman cassette players and the sound on the cassette is outstanding 👍👍👍

Haha, excellent man! Good to see people appreciate this still
Why would I not? ; ) They're just so awesome! And it never ceases to amaze me how I can listen to music, that imprinted on tape!

apple isn't cool either, maybe back in 2008 but now apple isn't as innovated as it once was

the sound of the headset of this thing was out of this word. I still haven’t found such good sound
I would love for them to make a new Walkman. One that plays actual Cassettes, not MP3 Sound Files like now lol
I loved my Aiwa with the Super bass slider. Treble too

Go ahead Dude! I don't own anything to do with this video.
You would have to contact SONY. They are the ones who own the rights to their own commercials.
