AKIS TOURKOGIORGIS - Kalliostro

Akis Tourkogiorgis was born and raised in the Kastella area of Piraeus(Greece). His musical inclinations were obvious from a very early age but he only became seriously involved with music while at high school when he bean to study leading rock guitarists of the time.
This was followed by studies in classic guitar and harmony, and then a steep learning curve, which lasted for two years, as a member of the legendary band Socrates which was set up by his brother Antonis Tourkogiorgos and the guitarist Giannis Spathas.
Following Socrates he formed many other groups but none of these recorded albums. His first appearance on an album came in 1983 on Dimos Moutsis LP Enechyro and this marked the start of a major recording career for him on the greek musical scene primarily as a guitarist but also as a composer.
As a professional musician he has collaborated and worked closely with many well-known signers and composers but space constraints do not allow us to mention all of them. In 1992 his first personal instrumental LP was released entitled Kalliostro (Virgin Records) and in 1995 his second entitled Angeli-Diavoli (FM Records).
At the end of 1999 he published his first book Electric Guitar and Technique (Fagotto Press). He has also taught at the Philippos Nakas Conservatoire and at Giorgos Fakanas Art Conservatoire.
Right now he plays as a session quitarist with Mixalis Xatzigiannis.
