God, Jame's voice is incredible. He can effortlessy go from growling and aggressive then directly to soothing and beautiful. A great example of that is The Unforgiven.
I really wish James could still sing like this in 2021 I know he's older and yes I know he did blow out his voice while recording and later touring this record but goddaamn his vocals were mind-blowing for the Justice and Black Albums

If Metallica ever does a last tour, I think James should go all out with his voice, and bring back the unmatched 89-92 voice he had. Show the world he still fuckin has it 🤘
you're totally right, but the fans hated it because it was one of their first major step away from the classic thrash metal they were doing and that the fans loved so much, but this album production wise is one of their greatest imo, vocal wise james peaked on that one

Sometimes I think what Justice, Master or Ride would sound like with this production: imagine The Thing That Should Not Be, The Frayed Ends of Sanity or Creeping Death with this sound. The songwriting is pretty close to flawless too. Yeah, it’s not thrash, but honestly, the last three albums had taken thrash about as far as it could go without becoming subject to the law of diminishing returns. There’s not an ounce of fat on this album.

black album can be the epitome of all metal studio recording in the future... but first you need to have the great raw voice of the menacing hetfield first...
I came to listen to the middle section: "I'm your dream" and what Bob and James were doing with that up close. Wow, no wonder this was my favorite band in 92 at 12. And I can't believe the amount of instrument bleed and low end of it, in the vocal. Those must have been some powerful headphones. Just want to add the only part of this albums production I ever wasn't feeling was the snare was too perfect and go figure, turns out it's a sample!

It's a trendy hipster thing. But the Black Album is one of their best and only people who aren't afraid of sounding like conformists will admit it.
