    Cafe Slavia is the best next to the National Theater on the river bank. I was here in 1975, but even then they had exclusive prices. It's a better place than the Sacher in Vienna and it's easier to pay.

    I'm Czech and I consider a 10% tip to be a very good tip in the Czech environment, especially on a larger bill. I wouldn't say it's the average but more of a gold standard when the service and food was very good. In some exceptional circumstances I can imagine more, but it would have to be out of this world experience. For work lunch or beer I think it's okay to just round up (although I personally also give 10%).

I think if people will go just before or just after tourist season they will have a much better experience. It looks like for about €10 you can drop in and warm up with coffee and cake. Go see Prague in March or October avoid the crowds. Take a tour.

    Visited Cafe Imperial today, absolutely awesome! I had Svíčková, then Imperial cake, all washed down with a decent sized beer, all for less than £24, including tip. The food was off the scale good, and the Svíčková has matched the Tafelspitz I had at the Hotel Sacher as my favourite local meal!

      While everything I said above was true, I’ve since checked my bill! I noticed that I was charged for water, when I simply asked for some tap water. I’m not sure if this is practice in Prague, but the only reason I asked for water was that my beer had nearly run out before I was finished! The reason my beer had nearly run out was because the first meal that was brought out to me needed to be replaced! I still enjoyed the experience, I was happy with the price, just not happy to be charged for tap water!

    • @AlexienKa
      @AlexienKa Год назад +1

      @@2ag816 Hi, it´s normal to be charged for tap water here in czech. In some places the cost you pay for the water goes to different charities, but in other places it´s just because sadly some people sit in restaurants and cafes for hours and they don´t order anything and that´s not profitable for the place. But it´s getting more common to have free water if you order coffe, which I think is a great thing.

    As a local, I would pass on Slavia. Unfortunately, just a shadow of its former (pre-Velvet Revolution) glory. I would recommend Café Nona instead, located just across the street from Slavia in the new building of the National Theatre. Otherwise, all others are spot on - I take my foreign friends to all of them, too!

    After everything that I have lived and endured here I deserve vacations in a free country.
    First I will manage to find a more secure apartment for few few of my things cause the rest is in my house.
    Maybe I will come at the same time that my people,they’ll see how freedom is supposed to be and lot more...
    Well let’s go back to work for the economical $ plan. (an other plan but that could further concern our travel either)
    I’ll bring a 1TB Usb flash drive with all my movies ripped with Mp4g files and all my best music tracks in real audio format,and lot more things.

    The 10% tip thing must be a Prague thing . . . I've only heard of this by travel guides and in the more touristy areas . . . . 10% or more if the service is good? Where is there good customer service in Czech? LOL . . . it's cordial at best.

    • @Pidalin
      @Pidalin Год назад

      Tiping is totaly normal in Czech Republic everywhere, when your bill is for example 180 CZK, you will probably give 200. It's not that much about tiping, it's just about making it easier and faster, they don't have to look for coins and even when you pay by card, many people say round it to 200 or something. Tiping is part of our culture, but ofcourse it's not like in US, when you don't tip, nobody will hurt you because of that.
