  • This is a totally bias and unprofessional comparison for:
    Michelin X-ice Xi2
    Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V2
    Continental VikingContact7
It based on my personal experiences for those three tire.
They are all pretty good tires based on their winter performance. However, I will list some of the significant differences among these three.
And the video will show my suggestions of which one you should choose.
    Thank you!

Great review, honest and down to earth, thank you. I got the Blizzack DM-V2 yesterday.

I agree. I also purchased the Continental Viking 7’s for my Subaru WRX. Above average in deep snow with Subaru’s AWD system TC off. In the dry just need to make sure they’re properly inflated or they’ll feel sluggish.

Nice review. I've used several different winter tires in the states (WI), and am looking for a new set for a new Jeep Grand Cherokee. My first set were an older model Continental (WinterContact?) back in the mid-2000s on a FWD Nissan Maxima. They weren't too bad and I think I got a solid 4 maybe 5 years with them. Biggest difference I noticed right away over all season tires was the braking. My 2nd set of winter tires were a set of Blizzaks (WS70). I believe I used those on my Nissan for a year or two and then I got an AWD Infiniti G37. The Blizzaks were great for 2-3 seasons but by year 4 the treadwear was very uneven. The next set was those Michelin X-ice Xi3. Hated these. They are a glorified all season tire with extra sipes. For having "ice" in the name, they were awful on ice/packed snow, even with AWD. They were ok on dry and wet roads and the ride was fairly comfortable and quiet, and treadwear was pretty decent for a winter tire. These would be ok in a region that doesn't get a lot of snow (like southern IL, Indiana, Ohio, Virginia, etc.). My last set was the Viking WinterContact7 on that Infiniti. Those were a lot like the X-ice but with actual good performance in winter driving. The Vikings were avg+ in dry/wet/slush, and gave a comfortable quiet ride. About the only tire that might be better in snow are the Blizzaks but I think you sacrifice quite a bit in other aspects (ie. noise, treadwear, dry/wet, etc.). I only used those Vikings for one season and then got rid of the car, so I'm not sure how they would perform over multiple seasons. For the Jeep, I'm narrowed down between the Bridgestone Blizzak DMv2 and the Continental VikingContact7. There are not many winter tire options for my tire size: 265/60r18. I'm leaning toward the Viking because winters here in WI are not quite as extreme as they have been. We usually get half a dozen heavy snow storms in a season with 3-8" (avg annual snow = 50"), and then it's just mostly cold, wet until spring and summer. I figure any winter tire, especially those 2, will do the snow thing well, especially in an AWD/4x4 vehicle, like a Jeep. I think the Vikings will be nicer as an everyday driver (ie. noise, comfort, etc.). If you had pick between those two tires, for an average winter (not extreme), which way would you lean? How have your Vikings been in year 2 or 3?

Thanks for the reply! My personal opinion, in an average winter, between the Blizzak and the Viking, I will definitely choose he Viking. Noise is the most factor for me personally to choose beside the winter condition performance. Blizzak is too noisy even for my GLE450. The Vikings on the dry winter road is a charm, it does not feel like a winter tire at all.
I had the vikings for 3 winters, first year with my FWD Passat wagon, when I go uphill with snow storm condition, it spin so hard but still can slowly drag me up. Second and 3rd year were with my old 2011 E350 with four wheel drive. Same storm condition uphill, it never gave me any troubles, going up like there was no snow.

I'm in America and we have the Michelin X-Ice Snow instead of the Xi2. I'd go with the X-Ice Snow because they performed much better than the Blizzak WS90 after both being shaved down to 4/32. I have the CC2s and they're amazing in snow and slush!

I also drive a heavy SUV and live on a steep hill. I have the big problem, that my car starts sliding with a bit of wet snow when i go down the road. Any recommendation what tyre you would recommend for wet snow?
    Thanks in advance 🙌

      Thanks for your reply!
Not sure what tires you are using in the winter with your SUV.
Among those three, I will choose the Vikings for wet snow, the ability to drive in a wet winter road is the best among those three.
But if your hill always icy in the winter, my personal opinion is to get the studded winter tires, those are good for fighting the ice. However, it will extend your brake distance on dry road. And it is REALLY loud to drive with.
Hope it helps you a bit 😁

@@cometonewfoundland4820 awesome thank you! Ice isn’t really the problem as the city clears and salts the road regularly. But that salt turns the road into a greasy mess and i always felt like my thread pattern isn‘t deep enough.
Viking aren’t available in my size but its a good reference!

Do not get the Viking they are the worst on ice or wet snow. That’s very bad advice. Go with Michelin xi3 or Blizzaks or x ice snow. Look up the Viking they have worst breaking on ice which means they also have worst driving on ice.

@@christopherdinan4442 , Thanks for the advise. But due to my personal experiences here in East coast of NL, we had lots of wet snow every winter, the Vikings did pretty good job with my 2011 E350.

@@christopherdinan4442 i was literally just about to make the purchase and press the buy button when i thought about checking the reviews again 😅
According to the Tyre reviews website, the VikingContact is actually one of the best in test with ice and snow.
I don’t really need a tyre for snow snow driving, i rather need it to get down the steep road to my flat…especially when it’s wet snow and a bit more greasy…
Any recommendations? Was looking into the Pirelli Ice Zero FR as a solid allrounder. But in test it’s slightly behind the Viking.

We dont have many Icy conditions here in St. John's. But all those freezing rain days we had here, all three had pretty great performance. If I have to choose the best one, it would be X-Ice series. But other two tires not fall behind much.

Blizzacks good but Cross climate 2 blows all away

    • @cometonewfoundland4820
      @cometonewfoundland4820  10 месяцев назад +4

I dont think they are the same type of tires. I have Crossclimate 2 for non-winter use. It is a great all season tire, the best I had ever used. Quiet, good on water roads...... But deep snow, really not as good as snow/winter tires. It is called "All season" for a reason.
But if your place, not many snow, snow does not come in more than 10 cm each time, sure, you can use CrossClimate 2. But if your city is like mine, snow can come at 45-50 cm in a day, you will know Crossclimate 2 is not as good as Blizzack in deep snows.
      Thanks for the comments!

Thanks, I laughed so hard. CrossClimate 2 are not even Winter tires. They are All-Weather tires. Of course they would not be as good as Blizzak in heavy Winter conditions. I actually just bought CrossClimate 2 for my car because I have Summer Tires that don't work under 40℉ and it's bad to use Winter tires above 40℉ so I was worried about Spring and Fall. But if my car would have come with All-Season tires, I definitely would have bought dedicated Winter Tires.

@@mikemccormick6128 Agree! CrossClimate2 is a great all season tires and not winter tires. I bought the CrossClimate2 for my wife's GLC. Drove for 1 year, nothing I can complain. Wet road driving, dry road.... all perfect. And the noise part is amazingly really good! I used to think the ExtremeContact DWS is the best I can have (use for my E350 sedan). But the noise level from the CrossClimate2 is definitely way better than ExtremeContact.
