23+ here. It's exhausting and has caused me alot of health issues in every manner. I gave 110+% for him and our relationship and home. I poured all into him and family, that I forgot MY anythings. Took me awhile to believe things, because I didn't wanna be like alot of people. But I realise I gave up me and my dreams. I'm focused on me and all that makes me happy. As he has no matter what. I trust in myself and in the ☝️✝️ all will be fine. I am very capable. I love life over expectations of others. Stay strong. My husband and I recently bucked conventional norms/tradition and left our 40+ year suburban home/life and moved out to a 5 acre property in the country. We’ve got a huge garden, chickens and apple trees. Friends and family didn’t think that at our age (63) we should be undertaking such an ‘adventure’ but we love it! Many also didn’t understand why we would want to give up what they consider a more convenient lifestyle where food, services, healthcare, etc. are usually minutes away or can be delivered right to your door. We have found that our ‘authentic’ selves like being more self sufficient, growing our own food, cooking from scratch, and our bodies and minds are thriving thru the physical work and all the time spent outdoors listening to the sounds of nature instead of traffic and neighbors.

I'm 57, retired at 40 because I received 40% burns in an accident (I was given a 20% chance of surviving) and ever since I do whatever makes me happy. I wear whatever I want (mostly Goth grunge), I cut off all my hair and grew it out silver, I pull on my Dr. Marten boots everyday and we are currently building a van to live in so we can travel around Australia for the next few years and I can't wait! Young people don't seem to understand that just because we get older in years doesn't mean that we get older in mind, I still feel like I'm in my late 20's and I'm going to enjoy it for as long as I can.

    • @YourForestFairy

I’m also 57 I retired at 39 when side effects from a serious neck and spinal cord injury no longer allowed me to continue my profession (working with children with with behavior disorders mainly, so it could be quite physical). There was a time, since I was about 16, that I would not be seen in public without an ounce of makeup and dressed well, but in my own style and always in heels. How times change, yesterday, I walked to the Village shop in torn jeans, bra-less, still wearing my pajama top. I needed coffee and was out of milk. Makeup has been replaced by skincare. I was widowed a year ago, my dog died within a week of my husband. So it was just me. And in the past year, with my new Chihuahua companion, I have become more and more just me. I’d lost, or forgotten myself, for a long while I realised and it was time to remedy that. So I’m all in favour of BRULES, not that I often followed them, really, I guess I’m re-embracing my eccentricities.

I'm 58. I don't follow rules either. I buzz my head. Just don't want to mess with hair at all.
I watch nothing mainstream. I watch a couple RUclips channels and occasionally some British tv on Amazon Prime. I prefer British tv to American. I do not watch the news or any other controlled media.
I hardly ever wear makeup either. I just don't want to mess with it anymore. I'm not trying to impress anyone.
I painted the inside of my house the colors I wanted, not what's in style. My living room is neon green and the hallway is aqua blue, the kitchen bright yellow and red. I do what i like. I never fit in and don't care to. Why be normal? It's overrated. I'm the eccentric artist on the corner. Nothing i do is mainstream.

If you ask, you will get an honest answer. I refuse to look at social media during an election year (USA), and get caught up in senseless debates. I quit watching the news. I have lived in the same house for almost 30 years so this year I decided to pretend I was moving and purge everything that wasn’t necessary or beautiful ( in my opinion). I want to have more time to do the things I enjoy, and not just spend all my time taking care of STUFF.

I just turned 60, and have no clue who I am or what I should be. Hubby and I moved off grid to some property when COVID hit. My life was turned upside down. Point being, I am living poor, broke and no close friends and only 1 family member several hrs away. The upside is I am living and depending on God more and can't do it without Him. He has peeled me like an onion layer by layer to my core. Have to say, I am more me, and learning who I want to be and what is important to me and becoming content with who I am. Don't do social media, except you tube.... I'm learning so much! Change is difficult, but I enjoy being what I want and not what society says I should be. But are you weird? I am beginning to think WE are the normal ones and it's weird to me that people conform to these rules for their entire lives. We need rules for civility and kindness and being caring to the Earth but outside of that, I do no conform and I am fine by that. I am losing everything and maybe that is a good thing, via a divorce BUT I am working in the areas I want to now, doing my creative craft and arts, loving on all animals and Mother Earth and loving myself as much as I can. I am almost in my 50's. I am an educator but I do not teach in a contained classroom (Too many kids in control). I work at an outdoor center and with the local parks. I can teach things like photography, about the plants and animals and local conservation. I quit chasing money and yes, life is expensive but I am finding that I am only buying what I need and I tend to live a very simple, almost European way of life (think fresh food I can recognize, water, teas, etc) and I barely shop for anything else. I have silver hair (sometimes pink because it's my favorite color) and I rather spend my weekends fosters cats or dogs than with people. I also eat what I want, I say NO to a lot now because if it doesn't lift me up, just no.

We quit eating meat, oils and dairy, we quit alcohol as well. We quitsleeping on a traditional EXPENSIVE mattress instead sleeping on a floor bed. We quit shampoo and conditioner and use baking soda and vinegar. Fellow curly haired here and also quit brushing yeeeeears ago. We quit gift giving on “traditional” holidays about 15 years ago, instead choosing to gift when we want to, not because of an arbitrary date on the calendar. We also quit heeled shoes, going for minimalist, zero drop shoes (barefoot lifestyle). And inspired by Katy Bowman we quit chairs and couches. We have a couple of big, wide bench seats to elevate us off of cold floor (live in Nova Scotia) but they are backless and allow us to move, sitting different ways, we eat most meals sitting on the floor, allowing more movement in our daily life. We quit lots of things and GAINED so much joy and health from doing so. Lovvvved your vid, glad youtube suggested your channel!

Hello Curly Girl, welcome to my corner of the woods. Goodness, you are at a whole other level, well done!!! Barefoot shoes are also on my bucket list and I do use loads of baking soda and ACV in my house - also to rinse my hair. However... I'll have to grow into the bench and floor-sitting, but I can certainly see how it can improve your mobility and flexibility.

I am 82 years old and widow, and I’m finally taking charge of my life. After my husband passed away, I sold a motorhome that we lived in for 14 years, traveling, United States, and moved back to Savannah Georgia to be near my daughter. I thought at my age I can’t just go somewhere and not know anybody in case I needed help. well now I’m kind of sorry I did that. I did need help once when I fell and broke my hip because I tripped over something and my daughter did take my dog for me for six weeks. My question for you is do you ever comb your hair because I have naturally curly hair and I’ve started brushing it at night and combing it during the day, and after I wash it, I comb it. But when I wake up in the morning, it needs some thing and my daughter told me to just squirt it either water squish it and let it go. Well I’ve tried that and I guess I always feel like I am messy looking. Well today I came across your video for the first time And I love the messy look. So I’m thinking of getting my hair cut off because right now it’s below my shoulders and I’m tired of hair coming out all the time. And I thought I would just let it go messy but not sure what to do with it in the morning or how often it should actually be combed out. I have subscribed to your channel.

Oh wow - welcome to my corner of the woods!! Sounds as if you've had quite an adventurous life... and the adventures aren't over yet!! It took me many years to "understand" my hair and that it'll be different every single day, lol. There are many, many women explaining how to treat curly hair - just Google how to treat curly hair. My recent cut has been the best ever - the chin-length only looked good on wash day. Now I bounce out of bed, run my fingers through it, and if there are a few stray ones, I just wet and curl with a finger. Your daughter is on the right track about wetting and squishing it... Enjoy the new adventure with your hair!

I quit tv a very long time ago. I gave up trying to maintain a relationship with my ex husband for the children’s sake. They are adults and are responsible for their own relationships. I no longer wear uncomfortable anything. If I don’t like it, I don’t wear it. I use cloth instead of paper towels and napkins. I reuse lots of glass jars for storage. My hair is gray and I like it that way

Happily retired now. I only wear shoes if I am going outside. In the winter, why I am indoors, I might be shoeless for weeks. I am using up what I have before buying more. Cosmetics and toiletries do not age well. Use less, but use those products up. I started my shampoo use up 3 years ago. I still have enough shampoo for several more months. My skin is happier if I take shorter and fewer showers

Refreshing message! Even though this video may appeal to women more than men, it applies to us as well. I grew up in a lower middle class family in the U.S. in the 1950's, 60's. What was emphasized to us kids was WORK. And we did. My brother and I gave up so much of our youth to work that I truly regret it.
In my opinion, all kids should be taught critical thinking, how to take care of their health, the value of education (going to school or self education), and pursuing happiness.
    Nice channel, I am subscribing.

But, I’m hoping that at least some of the conversations will appeal to all. I didn’t grow up so much with the idea of work, work, work, but once I hit the working space that was the message if you wanted to get anywhere. Eish, if I knew then what I know now! Agree with your recommendations!

I agree with the common modern assumption that we should value experiences over possessions, however I no longer think that means I should travel. While the travel I've done in the past reshaped my life, I find it's no longer something I wish to do. Rather, I am much more excited about the things I can make and learn about--which are also valuable experiences. I've got a bucket list of art forms I want to learn and I've been ticking them off one by one: sewing, spinning wool, weaving, making soap, and on and on. The more I learn about the world, the longer my list becomes and that excites me more than a trip to Hawaii ever could.
