    I’ve got the Datora for a week now, and have absolutely zero regrets. Didn’t really care less even if it’s not an in-house movement, as it’s a well packaged product for the price it commands. In the end, one man’s meat is another man’s poison

    • @TOKKANTE

      Yes if the movement is fine and most importantly, if you've got the wrist for it (I don't obviously), then it offers a lot for the price!

      Go look at them still! Adrian from Bark Jack just did a review of the pistachio green chrono. He did not mention the color at all (maybe he had no expectations going in) but other than that I agree with him.

    Very nice review, I particularly liked your comments on the Datora. I have been very interested in it. I have been trying to decide between it and the IWC 42mm perpetual calendar in steel. I know now really fair given the price points nonetheless that's what I have been doing. From what I had heard about the Datora the movement was problematic and your comments on it have pretty much confirmed my reservations. That an the thickness have me passing on the Datora.

    • @TOKKANTE
      @TOKKANTE  2 года назад +1

      Yes, if budget allows, then I would definitely go IWC perpetual! Who would pass an IWC Perpetual?! When I think IWC models, I think Pilots and Portugieser (and Genta Engineer), but when I think IWC complications, I think chronograph and Kurt Klaus' perpetual!

      @@TOKKANTE I buy my watches as keepers but at the back of your mind with Breitling there’s always the fact that you’re losing minimum 40% as you leave the AD with your new box. The best way to buy this brand is slightly used at 50% discount. That’s the unfortunate state of affairs these days.

    • @TOKKANTE
      @TOKKANTE  2 года назад +1

      @@bobbydazzler1780 Yes but it's ok, you just need to buy wisely. It's the same issue with IWC and when I got my Spitfire, there was no way I was gonna buy it at retail or with a small AD discount. But at the right price, then you won't lose much.

      Bring a bag of pistachios to compare! They also had the gold versions which I did not take a look at because they're basically double the price and to me, I'd go with something else entirely in that segment, but the Duograph chocolate dial is a looker.

    I agree with your comments regarding the Pistachio dial! I was really looking forward to seeing it but although the watch is very nice, the dial was a not as it appears in photos, nor on Breitling’s website. The colour is more light, silvery green in appearance. In addition, the strap was much lighter in colour. I took some photos with my iPhone and the watch looked better in my photos than it actually appeared in reality. I agree that one must see it in person before purchasing. On the other hand, the salmon coloured Datora and the blue Duograph appeared exactly the same in person as how they appear on Breitling’s website. I am sold on the Pistachio only if Breitling could reasonably match the colour that they promote. Keep up the great work!!

    • @TOKKANTE
      @TOKKANTE  3 года назад +1

      Yes, a lot of people seem to have the same reaction, it really shocked me! Silvery green, you're absolutely right (didn't have the right word for it). I also don't like the straps and asked if we could choose another one but was told I would have to purchase a different one as an optional strap, couldn't just swap them.

    • @robbstone5866
      @robbstone5866 3 года назад +1

      @@TOKKANTE I appreciate knowing that I was not the only person who noticed this. The watch and strap seem to photograph differently and all appear to look better than actually in person. I really hope that Breitling addresses this issue as the watch appears differently than in their promotional materials. It is definitely misleading and it seems that they might have reconsidered potential sales issues with the vibrant colour and altered the actual end product in order to play it safe with the consumers. After all, it is the dial that caught everyone’s attention….they really should supply the accurate item that they advertise. Keep up the great work!! 👍

    Hello, I have the Premier B15 Duograph 42 and was wondering can I run the stop watch function as a minute hand 24/7 ? The reason why I ask is I watched a video review of the premier B09 chronograph 40 and in the video the gentlemen said...
    "It is a manual wind with no date. It is a very clean dial. You note that the watch features smooth chronograph engagement thanks to the use of a vertical clutch. There’s no additional wear or tear in this system so in addition to seamless jump free actuation a vertical clutch allows you to keep the chronograph running full time with no additional hazard to the watch.”
    Is this true as no damage would be done internally if I ran my stop watch all the time? Can you help me answer that for me please. Thank you very much.

  • @jameshoward9700
    @jameshoward9700 2 года назад +1

    Absolutely! I was quite excited by these, but in person they were a letdown. The colour rendition of the pistachio dial was a joke - you'd have to be colour blind to mistake its sickly hue with the popping Pantone of the web render. The Datora (I'll admit it, I was excited by the prospect of a cut-price Patek!), was a huge disappointment: too big and sorry, just cheap feeling. The level of movement, finish and colour sophistication is just not there (seriously, what are Breitling doing using a Concepto 7750?!). Breitling need to work much harder to catch Omega. Their designs are improving, but quality still seems on par with resurgent (far cheaper) Tudor/Longines.

    • @TOKKANTE
      @TOKKANTE  2 года назад

      Yeah... I want to love Breitling, but somehow they're always a bit off to me. Maybe go an Emergency, at least they do that better than anyone else!

  • @bbrebozo6417
    @bbrebozo6417 3 года назад

    5270P not 5270G. Longines Baum & Mercier use the 7750 with a triple calendar for less. People like the salmon dial so the Datora is popular for that resemblance to the Patek.
    By the way, IWC makes a split chronograph based on the Richard Habring module (and Habring2 does also… using his invention made at IWC). The IWC is a little more expensive and bigger than the Duograph.

    • @TOKKANTE
      @TOKKANTE  3 года назад

      Oooh yes, I stand corrected, 5270P for P-P-P-Platinum! I would be happy with a G though.... I also noticed when I rewatched it that I called the Datora the Datograph at the beginning (missed it when editing)... I think that's what I wish it were lol!

    • @julianread1996
      @julianread1996 2 года назад

      Even though both watchmakers have a variety of models JLC is overall higher tier. Full respect to Breitling they make excellent watches with an impressive history and great movements. Do you have either in your collection?

    • @TOKKANTE
      @TOKKANTE  2 года назад +1

      @@julianread1996 JLC can be considered high horology for some of their high-end models and definitely above the Rolex and Omega of this world, while Breitling competes at the more entry-level or accessible luxury. I don't have either but would love to! For me, JLC is about 2 things: a model (Reverso) and a complication (Memovox), so it'd have to be one of these to start while for Breitling, I'd like something only they can make so badass, like the Emergency!
