- In this wide ranging interview, political heavyweight Helen Zille unpacks the thinking behind a multi-stakeholder group established this week which intends wresting power away from Pretoria to the Western Cape Government. The group is segments in SA's Constitution to argue that on areas where the State is failing, there's a legal obligation on local government to take over. Leading its brief is police services, but its focus also includes restoring the collapse of rail services - and the ability of the Provincial Premier to call Referendums. Zille spoke to Alec Hogg of BizNews.
Sparkling intellectual clarity from Ms Zille!
Helen Z always speaks sence and truth. The truth hurts and she must continue to speak it.
I only wish the masses who continue to vote for thiefs and liars can have their blind eyes and deaf ears opened to this truth.
That is the only way we can get to be a affective opinion.
Very well argued and beautifully and systematically presented. This provides serious food for thought!
Talk to Rob Herzov to take over the rail system in the WC as well as the airports. Passenger and cargo.
I agree Helen! The times now! Lets take power away and get it in capable hands!
The fact of the matter is that more and more people in the Cape has now finally embraced the idea of the Cape as a region that needs to be managed with greater independence to thrive. The devil is in the details.
I agree Cape Independence not the answer BUT Federalism should be pushed for provinces. The only way to have control over important departments.
Amen
I agree. I don't want the DA to leave other provinces to dry.
Exactly. Hits the nails on their heads.
"When DA is governing, life is better for all?" Does Helene know Danoon, Delft, Gugulethu or Khayelitjha
Like it or not, Helen Zille is the only person in South Africa that can clean up the mess of the ANC. We going to need someone with a strong vision and a love for collaboration to move forward.
And you're a dom poes. She can't "clean" up anything seeing as she and the DA could not maintain the WC. The decay was only slower because there has historically been fewer kaffers compared to whites here. Simple as that.
let's not forget, she believes that colonization was good for black people
Because you would’ve been able to comment on a RUclips thread without colonisation. You clearly cannot see the deeper meaning in what she meant when she said that.
@@breakthrow20XX Much better to have someone that speaks their mind than dealing with the liars who tells you everything you want to hear so that they can continue stealing your money.

Same goes for the corporates. Rob Hersov is the only one with the balls to speak out. Zille and Hersov are our unsung heroes.
Vut Zille is good snd and The Cape is improving

South Africans DO NOT need a party that does BUSINESS ie. IS a Business with other political parties and career politicians!
The people deserve a party or group of citizens who respect and serve South Africa as a sovereign COUNTRY and not a Business for their personal wheelings and dealings with nameless "stakeholders" who hide their activities behind the veil of Corporate Law.
Never underestimate the power of the death threat. So true.

The question i ask is why have the DA not thrown out BEE as a component. The DA still sit on the fence about this
they have always supported it to get votes
@Dr C. v/d Westhuizen ThD more reason to support Independance..
@ Rogerio Viana The DA briefly supported BEE when Mmusi Maimane was in charge of the party. But since he resigned from the party, the DA no longer supports BEE.
See Mac G's recent Podcast with John Steenhuisen on RUclips where John discusses the DA's position
The response of the youth to this podcast is overwhelmingly positive!

Helen mentioned they hope to govern other provinces besides the Western Cape after 2024, the obvious one is Gauteng, which will likely be governed by a DA/ActionSA/VF/IFP/ACDP coaliton, the only other province where the ANC will likely be kicked out is KZN and the IFP will choose who they govern with. My big question is who they will choose as their partners? The DA/ActionSA/VF/ACDP coalition, or ANC, or EFF?
Phambili nge federalism!!!! .😊😊😊😊😂😂
The problem we are facing in SA is that you cannot mix water and oil. In the Africanism model each oil droplet want to be the king of its own bucket. For sure have the DA managed to change a bit of oil droplets into water but l am not convinced that enough of the remaining of the oil droplets can be changed into water.

Young people are finally starting to realise that their vote can make a difference to the future of South Africa!!
The problem with the DA is the counselors that represents them make the party look bad they really have to choose wisely who they let represent them
True. I remember they had one counsellor in Cape Town who was involved in the Trojan Horse Massacre as an apartheid operator in the 1980s. Another DA counsellor was found to be a former Vlakplaas agent. Imagine!!

At least Helen's picture is decently composed this time, But there is a fuzzy mistiness to the picture which needs fixing. This could be done in post production but it would be time consuming. The first thing I would do is clean the lens that is pointing at Helen. This could possibly help a lot. The sound quality with Helen is also not good but at least you can hear what she's saying . Alec's picture is absolutely fine both in quality and and composition. Sound is good.
For me to believe that this has no racial undertones the DA has to also work to devolve power in Gauteng because the DA is in power there as well.
True
They're not though, ANC is still in control of gauteng province.
@@malcolmmacleod576 Not for long. The anc has effectively lost Gauteng. After what Action SA has done in Johannesburg the anc will never get any votes in Gauteng.
We are sick and tired of the racist rapists of the racist blck majorty
We need a sober government wish DA the best 👌
Eastern Cape will vote 99% Anc than emigrate to western Cape or Gautang for delivery because they have been doing this since anc took the country ..... they don't care that their province is one of the poorest province under anc
And most uneducated by design
@Phuzile nsele, the main issue that needs to go on a serious round table instead of noise against ANC or commissions of enquiries is the ECONOMY.
ANC may have corrupt elements but they do not have hands on the economy, that is why they will not deliver as expected. They have no capacity.
You see, the freedom charter should have been implemented before the adoption of the democratic constitution.
By now, voting DA, is like agreeing with Helen Zille that colonization was good for black people. Which I think she represent the view of many people (black and white) who seem to think ANC is synonymous to lack of delivery. But there has been changes that they delivered.
There are some black people, who say, white man was delivering or white man can give me a job. They forget that, we were under them as a sub-humans and no dignity. Even today, we are economic slave, the equation has not been balanced yet.
Yes DA can deliver because they are still sitting on the economy that was built on the back of our fore fathers. They have not transformed, they have been pulling us backwards. We also need the land back. Economy drivers are: Industry, finance and human capital.
ANC will be corrupt and steal state funds and not deliver accordingly because they have no economy.
But atleast they are ahead of all the small parties and we just need to:
1. reform economic structures
2. selected the right people into leadership, whether as ward councilors and premiers and so on.
U are so stupid
We need brave, young, daring, fearless, honest, intelligent and for the people leaders. We need Christians ✝️ who will always tell the truth and be transparent to the nation. These old leaders were given the opportunity and we going backwards to the Flintstone age. These people don't know how to run a country or fix a country... I will no longer vote for lies, corruption or incompetence!! I will vote for Jobs, equality, transparency and diversity.
Very insightful interview.
Time for the referendum.
Problem, Effect, Cause, Solution ... wash, rinse, repeat.
The political landscape of SA is a tricky one right now. Say what you want about the ANC but things have changed
I think people fail to recognise the neo colonialism that’s at play but in general if you’re a child from Soweto or Alex you have a chance to go school and get an education and to improve your own life
There’s still a lot of inequality true but honestly the main thing people need is an opportunity no matter how small. Privilege tends to blind us from the reality of the world Sa from the lenses of the white man is very different from the perspective of the black person you can see it on small things like how when you watch an Afrikaans channel the ads are mostly about securing wealth insurance and things of that nature while the black audience is bombarded with consumerism
The truth is that our government owns nothing our nation’s all across Africa still act as colonies with everything flowing out
You can have a mining community where the people are poverty stricken yet billions pour out from those mines
I think it’s very ignorant to talk about making this country better if we still have the same economic policies that have consolidated and privatised apartheid
We need something radical
We need economic reforms
Change that and you’ll see this country flourish
It will just take a simple spark to mess up this country . Economy and Land are still owned by the invaders
Everyone is going to be very 'surprised' when the vote comes in 2024 . Not in a good way .

DA supported BEE because it was Mmusi Mmaimane's Policy? That's a blatant lie. DA Federal Council makes policies and decides when voting, Mmusi was never a chairman of the federal council it was James Selfe, and to change BEE it will need two thirds majority like any amendment in the constitution which is difficult to achieve without the support of many other parties and that won't happen because most small parties support that except PA and ACDP, FF+ which won't give the DA 66% I'd the national assembly vote....so yes BEE will remain until one gets 66% to amend the constitution....which won't happen. Let's not put facts not lies to get support like the ANC and others....win fair or you like win at all costs even lying to get the votes because everyone is doing it right?
DA in Cape Town can't even solve the homelessness crisis. Even Castle of Good Hope is occupied by a homeless camp right now.
Yes thanks to ANC passing legislation that setting up a tent counts as a permanent structure so which makes it easy to take over spaces.
And before you forget, police = national structure run by ANC. Healthcare = national structure run by the ANC. Electricity = national Urban development = national etc etc etc
@@swartkat4394 There are local and provincial entities under DA control that have failed to solve the situation. ANC is not to blame for everything that goes wrong anywhere in SA. DA must start acting responsibly. This immature act of pointing fingers is not the right approach.
@@esahm373 Where have you been for the past few years ? when the DA started removing the tents they were called racist, the DA even offered those people alternative accommodation.
Well, if you have any sense and two eyeballs youd noticed that SA is in a dire state because of years of corruption and decay. You cant expect a party who arnt in charge yet, to just pull unlimited funds out of its ass when most of its revenue comes from Tax payers, who are far fewer than poor people. If they had billions of rands, im sure they wouldve fix allot more by now. Just because they havent done something doesnt mean they are refusing to do it. Take into account the environment we live in and who crated it. Most of the time these parties are just trying to plug the holes and staying head above water.
A decentralized police force is needed... So is the NPA.
Please work on audio. Great conversation but poor technology.
Telkom is utterly useless. Whatever you do don't sign with them. They disconnected my business line by mistake and I can't get any response. They will not turn me back on and say I have to reapply for a completely new service. Their staff simply don't give a dam. Their call centre's can't and won't help, emails go unanswered, office/ shop staff are arrogant and unhelpful. I'm taking my business elsewhere. It's infuriating and pathetic beyond belief. On top of it all they are charging me cancelation fees for their mistaken cancelation.
The DA fights for only the elite and working class. Look at the conditions of the townships. Bayafana nje ne ANC
The DA isnt responsible for townships, we live in a country that voted for the rainbow nation idea, it meant that in time, all would be made better, instead the government that took over an already dire situation only fked it up, and despite that, the majority voted for them anyway. Decades of a failing country by the ANC created this shithole environment. And now you wanna lay blame at the DA's feet? They didnt create these problems. Plus you cant run a party on good intentions only, you need people with assets to back you up in order to get things moving. Its the Tax payer that pays for everything, and if your someone who lives on grants and pays no tax, well then your not really of much help. That again, it isnt the DA's problem, they will try fix it, but they need people to stop voting for the very things that put them in those townships to begin with. Simple as that, Helen just said so.
Bullshit!
@ Manny You have the wrong impression of the DA.
.Have you seen the overwhelmingly positive response of the youth to Mac G's recent Podcast with John Steenhuisen on You Tube?

An independent provice/ state will move the ball quicker to get SA on the right track. Travelling through the desert for 40 years to achieve the same result is silly.
An interesting interview, but sadly confirming that no political party of note, has grasped the reality of modern political rhetoric. The ANC gets close but their ability to deliver is miserable. The DA is lost in a make believe world where voters are rational and driven by expectations other than that government will provide. What I know is most South Africans will tell you they are happy with the ANC, because they now have a simple house, a meagre pension, which they have not had before under apartheid. This suggests that most South Africans are materialistic inclined within a socialist context.
In the long run, Keynes said we are all dead. Thus emphasising the importance of the SHORT run. In order to win over the masses of materialistic socialists one must play their game, that is the Marxist game. Rambling on about power outages, the missing railways and postal services is not even making a minute impression on the mind of the materialistic socialist. Please accept as fact that government failure is not an significant issue anywhere in South Africa, accept in the minds of a few DA politicians and some leftover White suprematist.
Marx propagated the concept that contradictions will be created in any socioeconomic system. The contradiction in South Africa today is that the ANC failed to deliver on its revolutionary promises. This has resulted in a perpetuation of apartheid policies. Yes, the land grab promise is a very important part of that promise, but will not satisfy the materialistic utopian expectations created by the ANC. What is needed is a strong move to convince people that the ANC created a bourgeois at the cost of the poor proletariat. Evidence abound to prove this point. Thus the new bourgeois alienated the proletariat from the promises of the revolution and need to be annihilated at the election booth in order to restore the objectives of the revolution.
Thus the short term re-establishment of socioeconomic objectives that will make South Africa great again is needed. Simple materialistic objectives must be emphasised, a completely new urban settlement programme is urgently needed, employment opportunities must be created, which implies that the socioeconomic and political space of economic development must be addressed. Water is a major issue, food is another problem, infrastructure needs attention, and so on. An urgent need exists in South Africa to refocus on basic issues such as economic growth, world class education, and so on. Racism as tool to coverup ANC inadequacies deservedly need to be exposed for what it is.
There is so much more that need to be exposed, to be changed, and to be constructed. Above all, creating hope for a short term better future is crucial and evidence to deliver on such promises are imperative.
@@cherylvandermeulen6897 I think we need a young leader that can conceptualised the problem in such a way that simple solutions will grasp the attention of many. These solutions must depart from a basis of Mandela’s rainbow nation.
Clearly coalitions don't work in South Africa, she made the point..... Rob Hersov, pls take note. Your frustration with the Anc is blinding you to this fact. Stop diluting energy and work toward federalism, make one place work properly and naturally all will follow.

The problem with SA is that the majority of the population won't take Helen Zille seriously but when someone like Malema speaks he trends on Twitter and gets a lot of attention. A lot of this has to do with the colour of their skins. We need to promote non racialism in this country.
