INSANE Tornado Touched Down on Top of Us

- We were tracking supercells through Northeast Kansas and landed in Alta Vista, where a huge storm quickly set down a tornado...right on top of us. We moved along with it to see an incredible view of the whole storm after that.

There were 9 transmission poles down outside Rossville. Had line crews out all night working to replace. Those heroes had everyone back on before 8am today

This video is way more terrifying than it seemed like on stream...
The way the tornado evolves into a massive storm and everything disappear in night shadows is so fking terrifying, I've been thinking this mainly because of that truck at the end of the video, there's practically no escape, you can't see where it can come from and you could be on the side of it.
I love the added effects to help us know what to look at and the info to help us learn about these storms and tornadoes instead of just gawking at them. Reed is the GOAT.
I just think out loud. Wish I could fix it and just be silent like these other folks that are 10 miles away

Man, the last shots of the entire meso are incredible. From a photographer's perspective a print of the lightning-lit storm would have been amazing.
I LOVE that you explain and sometimes even diagram what is happening. Those of us untrained in meteorology are most appreciative.

If I had his vehicle, no I'd stay right there. My vehicle, it's too lightweight, I'd be backing up and capturing it from the distance. I love to photograph lightning. Whatever comes my way, I'm all up for it.

That "open the door!" moment was a little dicey. Saw a video from a year or so ago where a guy literally was trapped on his porch during a tornado because the wind force literally held the door shut so he couldn't get inside. He survived with a scrape or two by some miracle, but waiting til the last second to get in the car/house/shelter etc can easily get you killed; don't take it for granted you'll be able to open the door, guys.
Thank God the tornado was not an EF 4 or 5. How did you know it was ok to stay and film?
I don't have tornadoes where I live, but we have a ton of wildfires. I feel like it's just as beautiful as it is devastating. Your work is extremely important, thank you! Be safe out there.
If Dr. Timmer is within 50 miles of your location, go to the nearest underground shelter until he leaves.
