    If we're talking purely significance/importance...then I think it comes down to four: BMW E30, 3rd Generation Honda Accord, Jeep Cherokee, OR the Chrysler minivans. The E30 really cemented the reputation that would carry BMW though the 2000's as THE manufacturer of sport sedans and cemented the sport sedan as the aspirational image of an entire generation. In addition to being one of the best looking and most efficient designs of all time, the 3rd-gen Accord elevated the game for family sedans. It was elegant, refined, well engineered, reliable, and I think positioned Honda as the anti-Toyota in a way...still Japanese reliability but showed that mainstream cars didn't have to be appliances. Pearley made the case for the Cherokee--it was predictive of the future in multiple ways as set the model for the prototypical family car that continues today. Finally...the Chrysler minivans literally created a whole new segment, played a major role in saving Chrysler, and simultaneously made wagons irrelevant (to the dismay to those of us who consider ourselves enthusiasts). Honorary mention: Ford Taurus...frankly there's probably as strong a case for this as any of the other four. I was surprised no one in the video chose this, I fully expected to see an SHO right out of the gate.

    The Audi Quattro is the winner of this group. For sure it had influences to this day with performance sedans/coupes, it is for sure an icon of the era. The Cherokee is a good second choice as started the 'small' SUV concept, a closed body 4 WD vehicle with car like interiors.

    I liked all the contributions, but my pick would've been the Fox Mustang with the return of the 5.0. Yes, the Fox was a late 70s creation, but it didn't receive the 5.0 until the 80s (the Rabbit was also a 70s creation, but only gained the convertible in the 80s). The Mustang 5.0 represented nothing more than salvation for people's desire for affordable speed following an absolutely dismal decade. Was it well made? No. Did it have perfect dynamics? Of course not. But, it was affordable, sounded awesome, and showed Americans there was hope for enthusiasts going forward. That seems awesome and significant to me.

    Poor Elana. Could 4 guys ignore the only lady on the panel any more than they did? She made so many insightful and witty comments only to be ignored by the male Bravado. Get another woman on the panel. And they all did want to date some beach bunny in a Cabriolet.
    Women are coming gentlmen. You best mind your Ps and Qs and treat them as equals.

    KC for the win today - even if it arrived in the last few months of 1989 as the Miata holds the honor of being the best selling convertible in the US now. For American muscle, I think that either a late 80's C4 Corvette or the 1987 Mustang GT would've been excellent choices.

    Audi Quattro is HORRIBLE!! Just dismal in every way! There was nothing good about it, just the worst in all departments. Not a single thing about it is any good. Horrible chassis, horrible body, horrible drivetrain, horrible reliability, horrible design, horrible engine...everything!
    Fun to drive?? The OPPOSITE of fun to drive! The WORST to drive in history! Massive turbo lag and terminal understeer!
    And Audi Quattro LOST in rallying for years to 2WD cars for Christ's sake!! Despite Audi having a massively larger budget! They NEVER beat ANY 4WD car EVER (except in one single rally where they cheated)!

    • @Michael-ge3eo
      @Michael-ge3eo 11 месяцев назад

      A lot of your points are correct here but the fact is it was the most significant car because of the all-wheel-drive because of the turbos and so on and so forth I can keep going on and on. Personally I hated the Audi's I thought they were junk but as far as significant cars absolutely the most significant and Design. Just engineering poorly engineered

    • @pistonburner6448
      @pistonburner6448 11 месяцев назад

      @@Michael-ge3eo Yes, you're right: they engineered them so badly it's amazing.
      They did all-wheel-drive the worst it's ever been done, and turbos the worst it's ever been done. And both are also BAD developments for modern day too, so...

      Lol! I absolutely loved my 4 quattros from the 80's. I can't argue the validity of your statements but I still loved those cars. The cold weather abilities were amazing. The fuel economy was much better than most without feeling anemic.

      @@stephenlevan6676 Oh, surprise, surprise! Here comes the person to defend what he owned, making sure he advertises that he owned them as if it in any way makes himself any more reliable...and doesn't realise it makes him the opposite of reliable or unbiased.
      Its "cold weather abilities" were HORRIBLE! You can try to explain what "cold weather abilities" you suggest were good and how...I doubt you can.
      It did feel absolutely anaemic with its massive lag, absolutely horrible throttle response, terrible power curve, everything.
      Sorry, we have to face the facts.
