Usually i'm over the line skeptical when a youtuber sells products but there's no way i'm not getting one of these. thanks for the amazing demonstration.
Maybe because he’s not just another RUclipsr; he’s a MUSICIAN of the first order who just happens to bless the rest of us with his presence here.
I can recommend his ceramic slide. Best one I've used for 6 string slides.
Which ceramic slide ring is it actually? Do you happen to know?
30 years playing guitar and I can’t believe I haven’t seen one of these before. Great innovation and playing 👍
I have had one for over a year. I love it, called black mountain brand ringside they make pretty cool spring loaded picks too. Good brand.
I always heard those referred to as Leo Kottke slides. He was already using them in the 1970s and I didn't know anyone else ever used them.
The Edge has used something similar for several decades.
I Love Leo Kottke!!. I play a bunch of his pieces, but my favorite to play is Vaseline Machine gun which can utilize the ring slide. . I usually end my set with that one, and i play it with metal finger picks so but absolutely hammers the notes. amazing player.
My precious...
Your musicianship is always off the charts! Lots of people can play an instrument, not so many really make MUSIC so much. But you sure do!!!
lts all the same licks over and over . Theres almost no diverse melody to swamp. True he's great at that but when he creates a great melody lll be impressed. His technique is spot on for swamp slide but not much else. ln the blues heyday of the 2000-2010 period he was a legend. l want to hear a good song from him.
Just ordered mine! This comes at a great time as I'm trying to play slide in standard which is mostly single note lines anyway and it sucks to lose a finger and not have access to your usual tricks. Hoping this is going to let me get the best of both worlds. Thanks!
nice job Justin - I led the engineering team for a high end vibration sensor company and we used tungsten masses very specifically to increase the "sustain": of some devices. So I wanted to chime in and validate that there is real vibration science behind this. Im not much of a slide player but going to pick one up!
I don’t know if Justin ever played something that I didn’t like.
Ingenious, just like your playing!
❤❤JJ❤❤
Been a fan for a long time and its good to see you actually talk to the camera and give advice to players, been waiting on this for a long time!
The wife is getting a ring for Xmas 😂
Just ordered one Justin. Keep on rocking and Happy Holidays!
Amasing!
Very cool Justin! Innovative and looks easy to use! I'd like to get one of these too!
Happy Holidays to You And Nikki. Thanks for The Great Music🎸🎶👍
Happy holidays! 🤘
I've always thought about the possibility of a small finger slide like this. Now here it is. The spring loaded tensioner to keep it fitting snug to your finger is an awesome feature.
Same. I've never done slide guitar because I don't like removing a finger. Always wondered why they don't make it smaller
Yeah, right? I've always loved slide guitar, but like you, I could never get into playing with a slide myself. Even though I'm infatuated with slide guitar in all it's forms. @@gj4312
@@gj4312 In part, I think it's "they've always been like that". But being able to make contact with more strings means that you could, if you wanted, play some chords with the slide, and glissando them up and down the neck. Which - at least for me - has always been a pretty limited set of circumstances, and has never made it into a song I've presented to the band or tried for an audience.
😂 I think he just ripped off Black Mountains invention and put his name on it. I mean, whatever, we need to normalize it until the Chinese start putting them out for $10. It would be kind of weird parenting a slide mod anyway
Bitchin' tool, Bitchin' playin'! Happy Holidays to you and yours Justin
Very cool! Will have to get me one of those 😎✌💯
This is great!
Thank you for the lesson!!! Not only a great guitarist, but a great teacher sharing knowledge and experience!!!
What a game changer…. 🙌🏼 👏🏼 bravo ❤
Brilliant...next level stuff...you are always off the charts outside the box...
Wow! Very nice! Time to really consider this, I'm a bender and might turn slider before long now!
Amazing Slides...
BRILLIANT!
Awesome product. On my list for next guitar related item.
Holy moly!!!! 🙏🏼💜🇨🇦
Nice ~ Short Inflections are a treat ~ very fine innuendos ~
Ahh man definitely getting one of those ❤ and your playing is on point, finger picking good 🙏🏻
I just got one. Your measurements instructions were great and made it easy. I didn’t use the code because I appreciate no enjoy supporting you. My friends got me a shovel guitar for my birthday and it’s always fun.
Awesome! I'll be chopping my slide soon to make myself one of these.
Love it.
Wonderful demo!😊😊
Grande... grazie
JJ The Lord of the Ring Slides!
Oh, how perfect for you!
Cool product!
The Magic of the slide Guitar , me too some time i play slide for months , ane then i stop , always so . Thanks a lot fir yours informations and for delicius music ❤
This is why it is best to play the full the slide on the little finger - keep the the other three for the fingerboard. Some guitarists have a real blind spot about the little finger.
You’re amazing, thank you 🙏🏼
This is really cool!
ive always thought these should exist!!! def getting one
I was thinking about this for years, my prototype was just piece of metal. This thing inside what make pressure on finger is perfect to stop slide on place. Thank u for this invention
Just ordered one…thx, JJ! ✌️👽🎸
Great stuff - I want one!
That’s awesome! Never seen this before. I want one!
FINALLY someone made one of these! been thinking about it for a long time but i dont really play that much slide so never got around to making one. Im glad you did, will def have to pick one up in the future! :) Cheers
The Edge has used a similar slide for decades. So has Leo Kottke.
Happy Thanksgiving, Justin.
Will Ray with the Hellecasters was awesome with that style especially with Sweet Dreams........ awesome
คุณสุดยอดมากเลย
Super!!!!!!! Go to get one!!!!!! i Love it !
Cool❤
Dude you play really great!
thanks bud--- ur the best!
Great as usual!! I’d really love it ifn you’d do a cover of, “Hats off to Roy Harper,” Zeppelin did 1 with vocals & T Bone White without. On ur 3 string shovel it’d be a perfect bookend to, “Voodoo Chile.”
Nice!
You’re an amazing dude and I sometimes wondered why no one had made one of those type things.
You are a legend
That'd sure take some practice, as I do lots of mini bar chords with my middle finger. But I can't deny that's some smooth switching between pickin and slidin. I might have to give it a go.
Justin, You are a genius!!!
I just got mine today, and everyone has got to do this. It's a game changer.
you play beautifully
Very cool Justin 👍
Congratulations!
Cool !
Still remember finding a video of a tall skinny kid with long hair and a trucker hat playing a broom handled cigar box Thang at a Farmer's market...I kind of chucked to myself, like who is THIS guy...but then he played and my jaw dropped...as a guy who loves slide guitar, and has struggled for decades to get good at it, JJ has been the best teacher I ever had, even if my intonation and technique are still pretty bad😂
My baptism came via a video of that same long haired skinny guy going to town on a SHOVEL! I fell SO hard!
This changes the game
my guitar teacher Mike Ellis patent and gave me one in the early 1970s . Mike Ellis was the Tucker/ Leo Fender of this.
Good job. I had the original ring-slide (different than that one) in about '75. Got lost ~'96 with a bag of different slides including the original brass Mighty Mite. I got knockoff replacements but still miss those. I DO still have an original Coricidan bottle plus some Dunlop knockoffs.
I also have an old Ring Slide, metal ring with a 2.25 inch long piece of curved glass glued to it. Tone is ok, but not great, and it's a bit too long, so fretting is an issue.
Was yours the Lenny Blues Slide? I got one in the late 70s but lost it in the mid eighties. I still have yet to find one that works as well.
@@bretfuzz925 I got my ring slide long ago, and don't recall what brand it is. The glass is green, and the band is a gold color.
@@picksalot1 I may have to break down and try one of these out. I did some research and mine was a Lenny Pogan Blu-Slide. They come up on the used market from time to time but it is time to move on. Peace!
Nice to see a new ring slide! Which pickup are you using on the resonator? It sounds great!
In Justin i trust, I'll have to try one ❤
Looks like it'll join my assortment of various slides. I'm a pinky slide player fire this reason, I like to fret notes too unless in a lap steel.
I ve doing this for years just cuting my metal slides in 2
Huge fan Justin. Can you highlight what this pickup can do with some distortion or reverb or delay on a standard acoustic guitar without slide. I’ve been looking for a pickup for an acoustic guitar. Thanks man.
Functional Jewelry
I love it!!
this is super cool.
Cool ❤❤❤❤
magic.
オシャレ過ぎてなにも言えない聴く人は酔いしれます。素敵すぎる😍❤️❤️❤️
普通の指輪として使えるなんてすごいじゃん!
These are great! JJ reviewed a similar product from Black Mountain a while back, so I bought one on his recommendation. All at once I could incorporate 1 and sometimes 2 string slide sound riffs at will. As an east coast Piedmont, Country Blues, Ragtime player, I don't use open tunings much at all. Still, I loved the slide sound and wished I could use it. The ring slide gives me access to the sound I never could get before in standard tuning. I like to keep up a steady bass thump, so the keys of A and E have worked best for me. But I'm no JJ.
I'd love it if you would create a video, or do a workshop on the use of the ring slide in standard tuning.
All in all, I can't recommend these highly enough as a great way to blend fingerstyle and slide playing.
Thanks, Justin.
100% agree. I have one too and would love to use it more but I'm no JJ
Cool, good to hear you can get on to two strings with it, just ordered one, I don’t play enough slide so this looks like a good way to get more slide in my life!!
I def want one!
Simple and logical
Oh yes. I'm definitely going to get me one. Thanks brother
Right on 👊
Justin, thanks for the video. I have to ask, what model Gretrsch is that? I love it.
Just ordered one of these. About 15 years ago, I bought a Dunlop hoolahan guitar slide so I can use it for this type of purpose. I still have it but this looks more comfortable. Love the playing and the channel. Out of curiosity, what model Gretsch is that?
OH NICE, think Ill give it a try
Very cool, I want one.
Rock! 🤘You can pick one up at justinjohnsonstore.com/collections/guitar-accessories
Looks awesome! Can you do a demo with a 12 string?
The Edge from U2 started using one of these that his technician made circa 2000.
I got a ring slide in the late 70s called the Lenny Blues Slide. I lost it and have yet to find a good substitute. This one may work well. I hope to check one out some day.
You ever see or try one of those Chris Whitley bike handlebar slide rings? Covers all frets.
wow!
ohh man the sound you get out of that Gretsch is amazing. is that a honeydipper?
Oh man, I could have saved on the shipping, the JJ signature pickup has just arrived but it looks like I NEED this ring slide now! 😅
Nice.
What kind of guitar are you putting the pickup on?
@@abegarfield7031 my Gretsch boxcar resonator. But I am also tempted to get the all metal one like the one Justin is playing here.
I like it. I want one.
Justin, you are one of the greatest slide players of all time
I gotta have it!
For all you slide players out there.. this is a MUST watch - leave it to Justin to point out how beneficial this ring slide is - this is proof you don't need a bulky 4-inch slide to make your point
Cool beans.
Awesome!! Justin, what model gretsch are youplaying? Also, what strings are ya using on it ?
By cutting a socket to make it shorter i have a left over that make a ring like that hope it works ,, great idea!!
