That she believes this is inferred from her comment itself. I doubt she know they all stemmed from Abraham, but what she did there was make a common mistake more (ignorant) people make and considering how she sat there and explained herself and based on the countries she visited, it's obvious she thinks this as well. It's a common misconception and she, I am certain, is very dumb and ignorant about a lot of things.
I don't think she is smart or well-informed enough to know it, but she imitates ideas and thoughts. But if you look at it like this, is Islam really the third "largest"? There's the oil in the gulf region, sure, but the economies of China (folk religion and/or Buddhist), Japan (Shinto and/or Buddhist), and India (mainly Hindu) may very well outweigh these.
To be fair, before David showed the clip I wondered about the exact wording; if Ivanka had said the "greatest" religions I could have given her a pass as what's "great" can be seen as subjective (even though I wouldn't phrase it that way, but hey).
However, saying "largest" clearly, IMHO at least, refers to size, i.e. the number of adherents. So she's certainly wrong. As is Fox News.

Well to be fair, Folk religions are not one distinct religion, Taoism is not typically considered a religion, Shinto is not a world religion and Falun Gong is not a religion (it is a buddhist spiritual practice).

Well, of those 400 million practitioners of folk religion, 390 million practice the Chinese folk religion, which, unlike Daoism, is a religion and more unified than Christianity, so:
1-Christianity
2-Islam
3-Hinduism
4-Chinese folk religion
5-Buddhism
6-Sikhism
7-Judaism
Then again, religion in China is kind of weird. It's basically; everything goes, mix and match whatever you like (many of those non-religious Daoists I know regularly go to a traditional shrine or a Buddhist temple). Just preach anything anti-government, because then they're going apocalyptic on your 'cult'.

While you are right that this is the only practical way to do that it is slightly unfair to include it a list comparing specific religions & their comparative sizes by number of people. It's basically cheating since it is a collection of, for all I know, 1,000's of different religions. However David's list didn't include non-religious/secular/atheist category that these lists typically include which is in fact the 3rd largest in number of people behind Islam so Judaism is still 10th.

Are you suggesting that the rabbi may have afforded her special treatment in her conversion course because of her wealth and power? That certainly didn't happen to her husband in getting into Harvard, and I can't think of any other cases in which her family's advancement has not been merit based.

She might have meant "the three largest world religions in America" - i.e. the three largest religions in America that have a global reach. But even that's not accurate - apparently there's _slightly_ more Hindus in the U.S. than Muslims.
Two possible interpretations that _might_ be valid are "the three most geopolitically significant religions to U.S. policy", and "the three largest world religions, not counting central or east Asia". But I heard no such qualifiers.

To be fair Folk Religions isn't one religion but hundreds. But that still makes only Judaism the 9th largest with the next highest Sikhism being twice as large.

Ivanka is confusing the meaning of "The Big Three" which is a term used to encompass the three main monotheistic religions, which are also the three major Abrahamic religions. Clearly, like her father, when she hears someone say something, she just incorporates it into her vocabulary without ever bothering to check what it actually means. She obviously heard "Big 3" somewhere and thought that meant they were the three largest world religions measured by number of adherents, rather than a term referring strictly to monotheistic religions (which are all Abrahamic; Islam, Christianity and Judaïsm). Had she tempered the statement "the three largest religions" with "in America" then she would've been correct. Christianity, Islam and Judaïsm, in that order, are the three largest in the US.
Still waiting for the day where there will be a word for the religion and another word for the ethnicity, yet there are many words already to describe Ivanka Trump :)

Not even _that_ is true, my friend. Sikhism is monotheistic. Sikhs worship the Waheguru, the single supreme creator and allgod. You could even argue that many folk religions are also monotheistic. She was wrong, even if that's where she was coming from. She's either dumb, misinformed, or both. All I know for sure is that I'm not surprised.

I know you are focusing on the Judaism bit but often Christians do not consider Roman Catholicism the 'right' flavor of Christianity and actually talk about Catholicism like it's a separate religion and borderline 'cultish' with it's 'strange' rituals and beliefs.

Catholicism is not a fraction of Christianity. It is half of it(1.1 billion), also Roman Catholicism is not a subset of 'Catholicism', but is usually used synonymously in common language, except in certain theological discussions.
Question to the moderator: "from your western standpoint, which religions are you most aware of? Christianity, Judaism and Catholicism has to be your answer, as would it be for most Americans.

I have many times tried to inform Americans that there are religions outside of the Abrahamic religions, and it just does not compute. The USA is just that insular in its thinking.
Patrick, no matter what your impression may be, outside of New York City, and proportionally in the USA, Jews are still less than one percent of the total population. To state otherwise is a gross overestimation, which is the point that David was making. Half of the world's Jewish population lives in Israel, and the other half is scattered around the globe, but certain neighborhoods of New York City have a high concentration of Jews. If you live in Brooklyn, or in New York City, you have a wrong perception based upon that.
