  • Thank you to all who serve! Past and Present!
This past June when we returned to Normandy with 29 WWII veterans, we were missing one. Arthur Bibeau was all set to join us and return to his battlefield, but shortly before we left, he fell and succumbed to his injuries. Andrew, one of our medics, was set to be his caretaker. He had talked with Arthur and his family prior to the program and they became friends.
When Drew got up to give this presentation at one of our events in Normandy, it was an incredibly emotional thing for all of us. Especially, Boots, one of the WWII veterans who joined us. Boots and Arthur were long-time friends. It meant so much to Boots to see his good friend honored this way in Normandy.
    The "Missing man table"
The table is round - to show our everlasting concern. The cloth is white - symbolizing the purity of their motives when answering the call to serve.
The single red rose reminds us of the lives of these Americans….and their loved ones and friends who keep the faith, while seeking answers.
The yellow ribbon symbolizes our continuing uncertainty, the hope for their return, and our determination to account for them.
A slice of lemon reminds us of their bitter fate, captured and missing in a foreign land.
A pinch of salt symbolizes the tears of our missing and their families - who long for answers after decades of uncertainty.
The glass is inverted - symbolizing their inability to share a toast.
The chairs are empty - they are missing

Thank you for watching and keeping their memory alive!

I wish with all my heart that everyone cared and appreciated us the way you at best defense foundation do. It is sad that so many of us veterans went through hell for our country , me included, to come back home and feel like nobody really cares. It really messes with our minds.
