An overnight kayaking/canoeing trip on the Green River in Kentucky, beginning at the Green River Lake Tailwaters and ending at the Russell Ford Ramp. About 22 miles of paddling. Recorded August 28 & 29, 2021.

@@beyondthecampfire I had a canoe just like that and I put a motor mount on it and had trolling motor on it. Their a lot of fun!

As always, I have several thoughts that I wanted to pass your way:
-your intro on the “why” of these trips is very touching. You nailed my emotional experiences to heading into the wilderness quite well.
-You made me look awfully cool at the base of that waterfall at 0:26
-3:52 your comments about the trees “showing their true nature in varying hints of gold” is an awesome perspective on this part of summer in Ky
-4:03 reflection from that “blazing white star” with leaves floating by is wicked cool
-4:52 the slomo of the sycamore with the sun peeping through and the serene music is so peaceful and meditative
-6:03 the river “seaweed” dancing amidst the clear Green is a very cool shot
-8:28 still so impressed by your “Liquid Forest” comment. It is truly fitting for this video and trip.
-8:53 the lighting here (and for all your video) is particularly good (perfect shot for your thumbnail). Even with my color blind eyes, the richness and density of green is almost overwhelming. That Panasonic kills it in color and low light.
-10:19 the thunder/iron weed sequence is so cool and is quintessential Kentucky summer in essence.
-10:32 so glad your mic picked up those owls. One of my favorite moments from the trip.
-11:21 I love the banter you captured of us at dinner time. That meal was so fun together
-12:19 Lava Corn!!
-12:36 amazing macro of that frog. Belongs on Nat Geo, so clear, I can see his nostrils flaring, wild!
-13:45 your bravery bringing the camera out into the river paid off with that sunset!!
-14:35 I love the caveman vibes we give off around this fire. It feels so naturally human, sending us back to our roots of surviving in the elements with precious lifelines like a warm flame.
-15:26 I love the sounds of the morning here. The birds and the cicadas still being asleep made for a relaxing time over breakfast.
-16:12 the above view of the pancake and picnic table is a really cool perspective
-17:31 one of my favorite spots and shots of the trip. Doesn’t look like that belongs in Kentucky or the Green River. So beautiful.
-18:52 so much color here. Amazing, loved the waterfall sequence
-22:14-- words of wisdom here. You definitely spoke truth for the three of us- times like this and friendships like ours gives a recentering of life, priorities, and a sense of gratefulness for the life that’s been gifted to us all.
-23:06 love the outro with us following my uncle’s truck. That is a touching memory you captured of my family that I’ll come back to and revisit and cherish. There are so many years and memories tied to that truck
-23:41 all the bloopers were pure gold, but I just love that you captured this random man almost falling while picking up trash 😂
-25:05 Paul is right, I could have done better with that fart 💨 🤣
I know I probably always say this, but I mean it when I say that each new video you release becomes your best one. The footage from this emotionally connected trip feels like it was captured on film, and is a cinematic ode to my hometown and introducing you all to my family. Thanks for creating this memory for us. Can’t wait for the next adventure, brother!!
Thanks brother! I really appreciate the time and effort you put in to pick out the details and share your thoughts on them. I definitely wanted to do your hometown proud with this one, so that was extra motivation for me to put out something I'm happy with. It means a lot that it's created something memorable for you too. It's also good to know that you think the footage is an upgrade over my old phone footage. I was starting to doubt it, haha. I'll have to show you the difference in video quality between the original render and RUclips's compression job 😒
Thoughts on your thoughts:
-I'm glad you share my opening and closing thoughts. I was trying not to put words in anyone's mouth! (our thoughts in their head!)
- Your cool waterfall shot is the result of shooting from the kayak, haha. Such smooth panning!
- The "blazing white star" shot and the sun through the sycamore were spur-of-the-moment shots that turned out way better than most of my meticulously-planned shots 😁
- I really like the thumbnail shot too. It's the one that inspired the liquid forest thought. It just looks surreal.
- I'm very happy with the mic. I've always been frustrated with not being able to pick up more natural sounds, like those owls. It also let me get all that camp banter, and the Lava Corn, haha. That whole camp sequence is my favorite part of the video. I've been wanting to do a camp sequence like that for a long time.
- I agree, taking the camera into the water was worth it!
- I love the caveman vibes, haha. Totally agree with what you're saying. That scene could be taking place at any point in human history.
- We'll never get another pancake scene like that one! I can't believe we got that perfect sizzling sound and that perfectly-cooked pancake on a single unplanned take!
- That waterfall was crazy. I'm glad you found it, because I would have paddled right by it. We seemed to be much farther from home while we were near it.
- I'm glad you like the shot with your uncle's truck. I wish it was a little longer so I could have done a better job with the credits, but I really like it too. There's something nostalgic about it even for me.
- I'm so glad that random dude walked into my shot and almost fell down 🤣
- Sounds like Paul has challenged you to up your fart game in a future blooper, hahaha!

This is good because you can pile on more provisions than if you went backpacking.

Thanks Nick! I'm glad you found it peaceful. That's usually what I'm going for. Trying to preserve some of that peaceful feeling of being out there so we can relive it when things get crazy! I'm glad you liked the bloopers too, haha. That's two straight trips where we both fell in the water 🤣
Last time I canoed and kayaked the Green River was in July 2012 and June 2014. I miss kayaking the river and would love to get back to it in the summer some other time.
I haven't finished watching this yet but had to pause and just say...your composition skills are incredible...truly next level. Your videos are my new benchmark when I try to create. Thoroughly enjoying this one...now back to watching.

I think the waterfall was called thousands springs. About 8 us us went through there about 30 years ago. In August you could not stand under the falls and count to 10, it was so cold. Great Video!
Thanks! I was wondering about that. That name sounds right, and it fits the description. It was just as cold as some of the natural springs I've been in. Great place to cool down on a scorching summer day though!

There are monsters in that river. The Army Corp of engineers varified it. Their divers came up white as ghosts and scared to death. They saw fish big enough to swallow them whole. That was in the depths under the Spotsville railroad bridge. Then upriver by dogkill creek there are numerous witnesses. That have seen dogs or deer grabbed and eaten while they were swimming. While I was parked next to the river one evening at Spotsville something was giving me an Erie feeling so I started the car and tried to leave, but the tires just threw gravel. The car didn't move. Then all of a sudden the car lunged ahead like something let go of it. I don't think it was the Sasquatch that had also been seen in the area several times. By the way there is a whole under the Spotsville railroad bridge that is 700 feet deep. That's why the Army Corp of engineers divers were there. Giant catfish and paddlefish as big as Buicks and back then Buicks were pretty big. Sometime in the early 70s.

Hello this was a good kayak camping trip Adventure you had. I can tell you guys had a blast. Kayak camping is so awesome I just love doing it. I did a 27-mile kayak camping trip with my family last year on Father's Day weekend and this year we're planning on doing a 30-mile camping trip on Father's Day weekend. Man I can't wait. The campsite you had look very nice. I like how you guys were wearing sandals while you were kayaking too. I have to kayak Barefooted 👣style because i have big very very extremely wide feet sz15 6 EEEEEE wide with very chubby fat wide toes that are equally straight across making my foot very very wide feet at 6 1/2 inches wide from my big toe to my lil toe. My foot outgrew shoes , socks , & boots when i was 18 years old & flip flops is the only footwear that will barely and i mean barely fit me because my toes are wider than the flip flops straps. I used to be able to wear Teva sandals until my toes got fatter and wider to the point that the straps won't fit across a foot that 6 1/2 inch wide. I think if I toes was not straight across and was at a 45-degree angle like everybody else's toes are I could find a sandal to wear. This was a great adventure. I'd enjoy watching it thank you for sharing.

Where did you camp at? Also if it is on private land, do you know of any places to publicly camp along that river on that same trip?
Sadly, there are no public camping areas on that stretch. We were lucky enough to get permission from someone to camp on his land. I wish there were more public areas to camp on the river.
How was you guys able to get permission for camping.
