i have wifi 6E (internal Nvme card) on my newer machine, this is already very fast, on my other machine i have a 1300AC dongle, also very fast, but when wifi 7 will be actual, the speed wll be unbelievable, cheers Leo
Great info Leo. One thing I experienced was cables and/or plugs. Older homes may still have Cat 5 or less installed in the walls. My home was built in 2007 with Cat 5e (Probably standard at that time), and I had a plug not built exactly tight. Rebuilt it and works great. Old cables in the walls are a pain to change I'm sure. I'd assume cables are just a small part of speed but nevertheless not be overlooked. Thank you for putting out great info!!!

I'm surprised you didn't mention microwave ovens as an example of something that can cause wireless interference. Depending on how your home is set up, a microwave oven can cause so much interference that it can entirely disrupt your wifi when it runs. I'm unfortunately in such a circumstance that isn't easy to correct.

Wireless is not limited to slower than a Gig if you have a eero Wifi 7 mesh access point that will get you a gigabit wifi connection. also having the correct wifi card also helps I can get 600 Mbps right now on my wifi system from 2013 up upgrading to a wifi 7 10 GB backhall and this will get me my full gig I know my systems can handle
leo i have a 2.5GB ethernet NIC and a 600mbps isp plan, but the machine is only getting max 200-300mbps over ethernet, from multiple speed test websites and browsers, any idea what could be causing this? i have the latest modem/router from my ISP as well. i have also tested other computers in my house and they get the full speed over ethernet. thank you!!
256 Mbit is fine for modest internet browsing? You're nuts. My whole family of 4 is using a 40 Mbit plan, heck one of us is even running an online business, and we're just fine, and none has any need to watch 4K movies, and why should they... they don't even have a 4K monitor, so what would the point anyway? Unless if you have kids that want to download a game from Steam every day, or want to download illegal movies, or like to watch TV in 4k, there is absolutely no need for 256 Mbit for the average family. We don't need TV, we stopped watching TV already a year ago (we hate commercials). We still got it, but we pay no subscription fees, but could still watch TV because of a large antenna outside for this rental home, and get about 60 channels for free, but it's very seldom that we turn it on.... yeah, sometimes when we have to keep an eye on stove while making dinner. lol

i have phones that are not on the 2.4 system they use a 5.6 GHz radio channel so far enough away from that to cause issues

My cable provider is my problem, I have to call them and report it so they can correct it .
