Simple math. Those games make money out of skins, the more characters a player has access to, the higher the chance of them buying a skin, because they already have access to the character that skin was made to. The money they will make out of ppl paying for characters is nothing compared to the money they make from skins.
The finals didn’t die. And if it did, it certainly wasn’t because of cosmetics. People left because of bad decisions on game modes and ranked play. It’s still getting ~15k players (not including console players)
10k players being considered dead is crazy to me, the games not dead till I cant play and its not like the finals or other games take longer than a minute to find a match

If The Finals dies imma crash out, it's really do love that game TBH. I know "micro transactions bad" but they're so inoffensive and genuinely good that it's no issue. The battlepass feels like good progression, and once I beat it early I still play for the loop and for the fun moments with The Boys.

Here to happily announce that marvel rivals is the GOAT. Already guaranteed 5 or something characters coming soon, new maps already, all characters are free to play at launch AND the r34 is about to pop off. What more do you want?
Not to be the guy who defends companies but the info in The Finals bit is just flatout wrong, people interested in the game keep just seeing this hate-bait content The game launched with 3 maps (Monaco, Seoul, Vegas) and since then got one map per season (SYS$HORIZON, Kyoto) and a new one is about to begin with a new one, speculated to be Rome for the *6th map.* One map per season is reasonable (they're not small maps and each of them have a bunch of gameplay/terrain and weather variants the game mixes from) It did launch with 2 gamemodes, (Cashout and Bank-it), and there are *5 unique ones now* (not counting ranked-unranked variants as separate); World Tour (new name for Cashout tournaments with a leaderboard) Terminal Attack (ranked and unranked version) Quick Cash Bank-It Power Shift, + not to mention limited time gamemode variants. The game isn't "dead"- it just lost the initial hype from when every youtuber made a video on it, but since then it has had a steadily okay playerbase. Would you call Helldivers 2 dead? It took a bigger dip in popularity %-wise in player count.
The criticism on skins is kinda valid as the team went on vacation recently actual content slowed down this season, but you cannot say that their monetization is predatory. You can earn enough currency to buy the Battle Passes as a completely f2p player in under 3 seasons (in 2 seasons if you invite one friend through a referral link), and each season gets you almost twice as much of that currency as you need to buy the next one. You can also buy items from bundles separately (e.g you only want the hat from a skin, you can buy just the hat for like 20% of the whole bundle's price).

(Didn't see this till now) The entire point of this video is that I'm showing some of my favorite multiplayer games that I DON'T want to see die. I think the reality is that there's people like you who become numb to the ill decisions developers make and will defend their every move without question. If you truly liked these games, you would be willing to admit their faults and criticize what's wrong with them to see them reach greater heights. So rivals announced that all characters will be free on launch and whenever released post-launch too so I mean I’m optimistic just hope for more game modes and maps but I’m sure they will have some good maps and modes
The only thing I’m worried about is that we once again , like all other ftp games, won’t be getting anything for progression. I got two free skins which was neat but I’m looking and they don’t even have the broke man’s battlepass 😖 I don’t mind spending money on this game cause it’s fire but the money a little to tight at the moment ;-;
Your take on the finals is terrible. One because their cosmetics are crazy good and the most fair priced compared to any other game. Also 6 maps, many variants, and 5+ modes depending on how you look at it. We all want it to succeed and theres still a large playerbase

Ive been matched against 3 stack emerald players pretty much every single quick cash game while my teammates and I arent even ranked players. The Finals is literally the most fun shooter out there right now alongside Marvel Rivals (but they're both very different, which is nice) and it's so frustrating to not see them at the top of the industry rn. And they actually have some of the coolest cosmetics I've ever seen for a game (especially the weapon skins).

Don't know why we are pulling arbitary numbers with zero research. the game launched with 4 maps at least you got that correct but it also launched with 4 modes. "They make sure the cosmetics are updated once every 5 minutes" it's free to play.... how do you think they make their money? Not to mention the cosmetics are of vastly superior quality than any other game on the market and I and 99% of the finals player base will stand by that.

I can't say for the rest of the games. But 2XKO is gonna be a hit. It might be "dead' by other games standards, but all fighting games have a sharp decline pretty quick. Particularly ones made with characters from non FGC series. Yeah, we're gonna probably see hundreds of thousands of people try 2XKO for a couple weeks, but then people will realize its still a fighting game, and then probably stay around 20-30k daily players for the future, so "dead" by you're definition, but probably still top 3 of FGs up with Street Fighter 6.
I dont think the Finals is dead because they can still fix it in season 4 and the Game itself has an estimated 280,000 unique players per day across all platforms

I've never heard anyone complain about the cosmetics in the finals, and even if you want to say its dead its not for that reason. (plus I think they try to add new weapons before maps and modes, they are trying to fix the current modes right now so they aren't going to make new ones soon)

I would have to disagree with the 100k-10k idea because like look at achievement percentages on some games, people download games then barely get past the opening realising they're not for them, those stats don't mean a games dead it just means it found it's player base.

My main worries about Marvel Rivals are the maps, game modes and performance optimizations. They are going to have such an easy time with character additions compared to other games who have to create brand new ones.
I get the want for paid game with proper progression, but having a paywall to a game makes it way harder to get into and cycle in new players. Spectre would be more likely to die as a paid game when valorant would be a free alternative thats had years to grow and the riot name behind it, vs it being free and not hurt to try leading to more exposure and actually having people seeing if they like it than writing it off. Everyone said that battlebit was way better than the newest battlefield yet it has lower player count than bf 2042
Watching the marvel rivals segment (I'm aware that this video came out two months ago, and you're probably aware of this). I am happy to say that they said all characters up to Capt America and Winter Soldier will be playable and free on launch.
Valve are the kings of making games last forever and those fuckers run their live service games on stale cereal and vibes. The game could be over run with cheaters and bots spamming slurs in chat with no content update in sight and it would crack 50k concurant players consistently. For christ sake the top game on steam right now is a rushed buggy broken mess of a game released by Valve a year too early with basically no anti-cheat. How the Hell do these guys get away with it?

First with artifact being a pay to play PvP card game (worse decision ever made) and dota underlords that was just outperformed by Dota autochess (the mod it was based on)
Extremely wrong on both 2XKO & Deadlock, 2X is heavily awaited due to the FGC being in a bit of a mess (some people hate T8/SF6) and people like Max have sung it's praises, it'll be #3 behind those two and it's not even a debate. Then, Deadlock has 100k+ with a janky invite system, it fills shooter & a moba which will be fine

I was worried you were going to put deadlock as a dead aftwr one month there. With how polished it already is in early access, and how many people are playing and talking about it just from a share link early access. I foresee a HUGE shift in people leaving overwatch, and TF2, and going to Deadlock. Because its a game that's finally done something different, it gave a hero shooter lanes and dota denies, item shop, no passive income, you get only what you deserve. I might be glazing, but I think Deadlock has a very very bright future. If they do cosmetics like with dota that you can buy and sell on marketplace as well. It's going to be top tier money making like Dota as well
The finals really had potential.. there was just a huge problem with cheating and that scared a majority of the player base away. Also not to mention with Fortnite being as popular as it is it’s so difficult for any other game to get off the ground. Crazy I was bored and sick of Fortnite after the first chapter. Guess people like dying to sweats that build the Empire State Building in 0.8 seconds when you fire one shot at them.
Watching this video for the first time and it’s 4months old and seeing Marvel Rivals be successful as it is by both selling skins/battlepass as well as incorporating no paywall to play characters as you suggested shows them proper balance in live service. Give ppl access to the gameplay free (characters provide different gameplay), make sure the game works well, and the. You can charge ppl for cosmetics after they have discovered the game is excellent

Deadlocks probably going to have monatization similar to dota 2 All characters are free by default, you can get some free cosmetics via grinding, sometimes you get some free items for characters (dota has item sets so you can basicly mix and match skins) As a f2p dota 2 player id say its going to be monotized fine, deadlock was confirmed to be f2p on launch im pretty sure and there seems to be a progression system for each character wich im assuming its like dota
Just going to put this here cause people keep saying the finals is dead or dying....no "less than 15k on steamcharts tho" This game is majority a console playerbase, yes its weird, turning off crossplay makes ques go to 5 min turning it on gives matches almost instantly. Devs have also "said" that the game has never gone below 500k at the mid point of season 2, 4 months later whether or not that's still the case rn is up for debate. As for the content being mostly skins, well its f2p so obvs, but the finals is that 1 game mode in the game. Its why a majority of the playerbase threw a fit the moment they changed ranked to a bad rainbow six mode saying "It wasnt the finals." I'm all for new gamemodes but those don't determine if a game lives or dies, league has been on the same map for over a decade with tiny changes. Doesn't the f2p model work when the focus isn't just money? I always thought a big reason Overwatch 1 died is just because they stopped making money from it. Its just kind of like, why update game when everyone owns it already? Seems insanely fair and reasonable to me to have to spend money to get a pointless optional cosmetic, the people who actually want it buy it and fund the experience for everyone.

If The Finals dies imma crash out, it's really do love that game TBH. I know "micro transactions bad" but they're so inoffensive and genuinely good that it's no issue. The battlepass feels like good progression, and once I beat it early I still play for the loop and for the fun moments with The Boys.

The game launched with 3 maps (Monaco, Seoul, Vegas) and since then got one map per season (SYS$HORIZON, Kyoto) and a new one is about to begin with a new one, speculated to be Rome for the *6th map.*
One map per season is reasonable (they're not small maps and each of them have a bunch of gameplay/terrain and weather variants the game mixes from)
It did launch with 2 gamemodes, (Cashout and Bank-it), and there are *5 unique ones now* (not counting ranked-unranked variants as separate);
World Tour (new name for Cashout tournaments with a leaderboard)

The game isn't "dead"- it just lost the initial hype from when every youtuber made a video on it, but since then it has had a steadily okay playerbase. Would you call Helldivers 2 dead? It took a bigger dip in popularity %-wise in player count.
The criticism on skins is kinda valid as the team went on vacation recently actual content slowed down this season, but you cannot say that their monetization is predatory. You can earn enough currency to buy the Battle Passes as a completely f2p player in under 3 seasons (in 2 seasons if you invite one friend through a referral link), and each season gets you almost twice as much of that currency as you need to buy the next one. You can also buy items from bundles separately (e.g you only want the hat from a skin, you can buy just the hat for like 20% of the whole bundle's price).

The entire point of this video is that I'm showing some of my favorite multiplayer games that I DON'T want to see die. I think the reality is that there's people like you who become numb to the ill decisions developers make and will defend their every move without question.
If you truly liked these games, you would be willing to admit their faults and criticize what's wrong with them to see them reach greater heights. The Finals is literally the most fun shooter out there right now alongside Marvel Rivals (but they're both very different, which is nice) and it's so frustrating to not see them at the top of the industry rn. And they actually have some of the coolest cosmetics I've ever seen for a game (especially the weapon skins).

Don't know why we are pulling arbitary numbers with zero research. the game launched with 4 maps at least you got that correct but it also launched with 4 modes. "They make sure the cosmetics are updated once every 5 minutes" it's free to play.... how do you think they make their money? The point of the video (as said near the very beginning) is that I WANT these games to succeed and I think these developers make the same foolish mistakes over and over again. Not to be rude, but you're the exact type of person I'm talking about. You just defined this video as "just another yt video about 'dead games'" when that is quite literally the furthest thing from the truth and anyone who actually watched the entire thing would know that. I know for a fact you didn't watch the entire thing. You most likely just read the title, perhaps skipped to one game you recognize, and then went to the comments.
Many people read the bold title and did the very same thing and left comments that completely miss the entire main idea that I am on their side! I also want these games to succeed! The difference is that I'm willing to criticize what I think they could be doing better rather than just blindly accepting every decision these developers make. This blind following is also what leads to people being extremely eager to point out extremely small faults in the video such as me missing one singular map and mode. Such a small mistake literally changes nothing, but many people use it to try and discredit what I'm saying because they cannot tolerate criticism of something they like.
Anyone who went to the comments to immediately defend their favorite game found in the video has completely missed the entire point OF the video. I apologize if that sounds rude, but it is true. I am always open to criticism and often times actively seek it out, but I will not accept it from those who very obviously did not watch the video itself.
If someone DISAGREES with my critics towards these games, that is completely fine. But if someone blindly defends their favorite game without even acknowledging the fact that I want to see the game succeed too? I can't say for the rest of the games. But 2XKO is gonna be a hit. It might be "dead' by other games standards, but all fighting games have a sharp decline pretty quick. Particularly ones made with characters from non FGC series. Yeah, we're gonna probably see hundreds of thousands of people try 2XKO for a couple weeks, but then people will realize its still a fighting game, and then probably stay around 20-30k daily players for the future, so "dead" by you're definition, but probably still top 3 of FGs up with Street Fighter 6.

If you want a game with natural progression and no pay wall to review, there is a game called The Forever Winter that's was just recently in beta.
My main worries about Marvel Rivals are the maps, game modes and performance optimizations. They are going to have such an easy time with character additions compared to other games who have to create brand new ones.

Watching the marvel rivals segment (I'm aware that this video came out two months ago, and you're probably aware of this). I am happy to say that they said all characters up to Capt America and Winter Soldier will be playable and free on launch.
Valve are the kings of making games last forever and those fuckers run their live service games on stale cereal and vibes. Ok good argument... Artifact, dota underlords. I'm a deadlock crack addict who already played for 100 hours but valve did fuck up twice before. First with artifact being a pay to play PvP card game (worse decision ever made) and dota underlords that was just outperformed by Dota autochess (the mod it was based on)
Extremely wrong on both 2XKO & Deadlock, 2X is heavily awaited due to the FGC being in a bit of a mess (some people hate T8/SF6) and people like Max have sung it's praises, it'll be #3 behind those two and it's not even a debate. Then, Deadlock has 100k+ with a janky invite system, it fills shooter & a moba which will be fine

Deadlock will have some kind of progression since there’s a greyed out tab called progression in the hero select screen.

With how polished it already is in early access, and how many people are playing and talking about it just from a share link early access.
I foresee a HUGE shift in people leaving overwatch, and TF2, and going to Deadlock.
Because its a game that's finally done something different, it gave a hero shooter lanes and dota denies, item shop, no passive income, you get only what you deserve.
I might be glazing, but I think Deadlock has a very very bright future.
If they do cosmetics like with dota that you can buy and sell on marketplace as well. It's going to be top tier money making like Dota as well

The finals is actually a really fun and unique game. Unfortunately went down like this
The finals really had potential.. there was just a huge problem with cheating and that scared a majority of the player base away. Also not to mention with Fortnite being as popular as it is it’s so difficult for any other game to get off the ground. Crazy I was bored and sick of Fortnite after the first chapter. Guess people like dying to sweats that build the Empire State Building in 0.8 seconds when you fire one shot at them.
Watching this video for the first time and it’s 4months old and seeing Marvel Rivals be successful as it is by both selling skins/battlepass as well as incorporating no paywall to play characters as you suggested shows them proper balance in live service.
Give ppl access to the gameplay free (characters provide different gameplay), make sure the game works well, and the. You can charge ppl for cosmetics after they have discovered the game is excellent
Another great example of this is battlebit, went crazy for like a few months but the updates fell off there just enough to keep my enough

All characters are free by default, you can get some free cosmetics via grinding, sometimes you get some free items for characters (dota has item sets so you can basicly mix and match skins)
As a f2p dota 2 player id say its going to be monotized fine, deadlock was confirmed to be f2p on launch im pretty sure and there seems to be a progression system for each character wich im assuming its like dota

This game is majority a console playerbase, yes its weird, turning off crossplay makes ques go to 5 min turning it on gives matches almost instantly.
Devs have also "said" that the game has never gone below 500k at the mid point of season 2, 4 months later whether or not that's still the case rn is up for debate.
As for the content being mostly skins, well its f2p so obvs, but the finals is that 1 game mode in the game. Its why a majority of the playerbase threw a fit the moment they changed ranked to a bad rainbow six mode saying "It wasnt the finals." I'm all for new gamemodes but those don't determine if a game lives or dies, league has been on the same map for over a decade with tiny changes.
(Ik Toko wants these games to succeed this was just an fyi cause its a common misconception that this game is unpopular or dead...Its not.)

Not sure why everyone clowns on the finals for “lack of content”. Some of the biggest games, battle royals especially, ship with 1 map for an entire season and one game mode for the entirety of the game’s existence.

Doesn't the f2p model work when the focus isn't just money? I always thought a big reason Overwatch 1 died is just because they stopped making money from it. Its just kind of like, why update game when everyone owns it already? Seems insanely fair and reasonable to me to have to spend money to get a pointless optional cosmetic, the people who actually want it buy it and fund the experience for everyone.
That finals take crazy saying they don’t focus on other stuff then cosmetics they don’t announce the other stuff on their RUclips they update the gameplay every single week they added leader boards to different playlist and im at like 280,000 in quick cash and I play the game almost everyday
How is the finals ‘dead’ because of the cosmetics? To be fair they don’t update as much as I’d like but they have a super small team and at least the updates they make are cool. I just don’t see cosmetics being something that has been detrimental to this game
