    I had a Salmon Faverolle turn up at my house almost a year ago now. I ended up adopting him as the neighbors were going to kill him. He is a gentleman and gets along well with his lady friend and my pet cats. He lets me pet him and I've been teaching him basic commands such as 'wait' and 'excuse me'. His beard and sideburns crack me up. He rarely crows, Faverolle's as a breed make excellent pets.

    Thank you for videoing this!!! PERFECT TIMING!!!
    I walked into a local tractor supply yesterday, to get grit ..and a light as I'm getting my first chick babies Saturday!! I'm soooooo excited AND 68 yrs young!! lol
    Here's what happened One of the sales girls came up the isle with a big box, I saw my hubby talking to her, and he motioned me over.. I walked over to see FIVE cute chicky babies, the sales girl said, I don't know what I'm going to do with these, a young girl just bought them yesterday and her mom made her bring them back. I couldn't give her a refund b/c we don't refund on chicks. I said can you resell them? She said NO, I have to find someone who wants them!! I said, me, me, me, I'd LOVE to have them .. she said Oh thank you!!
    I'm thinking NO thank YOU. there were two Salmon Faverolle, and three Asian Blacks or Black Asians, not sure of those.. their very different looking birds.
    My coop is ready, but I couldn't bring myself to put those babies out there ALL by their self, and I wasn't willing to camp out with them (haha) so I opted for the back porch, set the light up for them .. and woke this morning to five happy little chirping chicks!!
    I'll be watching for your post .. I need to learn about these and I think your going to be my source!! (sorry didn't mean to write a novel I just HAD to share that with you)!!
    Thanks again,
    Sharon

    Oh gads, my hens are like that too, they have a favorite box and get grumpy when they have to wait to get in it. Thanks for the video, thinking of adding a few of these to my flock. They look like they would blend well in the free range situation ( we have hawks in the summer, I have to stay outside with them when they are out), but a camoflaged bird is always good.

    Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I keep lots of Brahmas in my backyard. They are very broody. At some point I had over 50 brahmas of different ages. However, about a year ago I introduced Chinese geese and since then, my Brahmas are not as broody…the geese will chase them out of their nest and even squash the eggs! I just don’t know why. I like the geese too but I am contemplating getting rid of them

    What about orpingtons, australorps, and dominiques to keep with salmon faverolle chickens as far as a good mixed flock? Or what breeds do you recommend to co mingle with Faverolles? Enjoy your videos very much. Very informative

    Hi Sonja, I’m so glad I found this video! I would love your advice. I have two salmon faverolles in my flock of 9 that have all grown up together well. One of them went broody at a year old and that has escalated into some bullying by our marans, cinnamon queen, speckled Sussex and ameraucana. She’s fine with a couple of the others. But they chase her and mount her and pull feathers - almost all the feathers on her cheeks and head are gone! She doesn’t even seem broody after five weeks in that she doesn’t try to sit on the nest, she just hides in the coop and I allow her to free range alone. She puffs up and clucks still like she’s broody though. I’ve tried the separate her, separate bullies, etc, and nothing works after a couple days of reintegration. Your point about them being on the low end of the pecking order and her possibly being broody makes so much sense. I’m stumped! Any suggestions!?

    I bought 2 hens and 1 Roo in the fall, so fare I love them the are so nice. But one thing is I don't know if this goes with the breed or maybe something is wrong with my Roo but i have yet to hear him crow. He is acting very male (in a nice way) in all other ways, i plan on saving some eggs to incubate soon so we will really see if all is well with him or not.

    • @jessicagislason7908
      @jessicagislason7908 5 лет назад +1

      How old is he? Most roos wont crow till 6 + months when they have fully reached sexual maturity even if theyre looking 'roostery' they may not be condfident enough to start crowing and saying 'I am here and im In charge!' Crowing attracts predators and acts as a challenge to rival roosters so a rooster won't crow till they think they are able to fight for their spot on top successfully. I had a roo fight all 3 of my head girls everyday for a month before he finally took over and boy did he let us know it -_- crowed every chance he could for a bit there...

    Hi Sonya, do you have any problem getting your faverolles to roost? Also, are they really noticeably dumb, like getting lost in the bushes and tall grass?

    • @SunnyChickenChick
      @SunnyChickenChick  4 года назад

      Are they dumb??? Ha ha ha ha ha. Well, we named a pair dumb and dumber once. They are quite entertaining birds. I was amazed at what good mother's they were however.

    • @kayla5978
      @kayla5978 3 года назад

      My salmon faverolle is absolutely that dumb. We have a small yard for our 6 chickens. Our one faverolle will get about 5 feet away from her sisters and start crying loudly because she’s lost 😂 we always call her dumb, and their facial feathers really make them look dumb too. She’s our favorite bird. We haven’t had problems with her roosting.

    • @DerafsheKavian

      @@kayla5978 Thank to both you and Sonya. I was worried about roosting because I saw a videos where people complained they don't roost. They are likely to be part of my flock come this spring. Hope your birds will be happy, safe, and comfortable this winter.

    Do many of your hens go broody? Any easy ways to break the habit? I know some folks don't mind that but then you won't get eggs for a few weeks.

    • @SunnyChickenChick
      @SunnyChickenChick  5 лет назад +1

      Keep them out of nest for 3 nights in a row. So I put out in tractor during day and kennel at night so they are safe. Our tractor is not secure. I dislike keeping them caged..
