  • Some piano archaeology:
According to archivesmusee...., this Pleyel model 9 was build in 1916, 84 years after the publication of the opus 9 and 67 years after Chopin died.
The keys are very sensibles. A very soft touch produces a high volume and the notes last forever. It was sold in 1916 for 960 Frs (French Francs) +5 for the packaging .This represented ~2 months of a comfortable salary in 1916.
The first buyer was Mr Felix Aiguier, one of the owners of the "Maison Carbonel" founded in 1812 in Marseille, France, 2 years before Chopin was born. The "Maison Carbonel" was building, repairing, renting and selling piano in 27 rue saint Ferréol, probably up to 1923. It's a "Pimkie" fashion shop now (2024).
The ad below says that their phone number is "4576". I will try to call them on Monday.
